A MAJOR road safety campaign on Sturt Highway entered its second phase yesterday, with 1071 vehicles stopped and inspected by police. Five killed in a black weekend

The motorcyclist was killed when his machine hit a tree near Strathalbyn about noon, while the car driver died when his vehicle rolled over at Kangarilla, near Clarendon, at 12.45pm. The 36-year-old motorcyclist from Strathalbyn died when his machine ran off the Strathalbyn to Ashbourne Rd 10km west of Strathalbyn and hit the tree. Lives saved but not footy treasures
LITTLE Caitlin Todd was lucky to escape with her life when fire destroyed her home - but all she was worried about was her beloved Port Adelaide Football Club. Our roads fatality free as national toll rises

EIGHT people have died on Australian roads during the Easter holiday road toll period with two deaths recorded in Queensland and one in New South Wales yesterday. The first road death yesterday was a man who was killed when his car rolled over on the Riverina Highway, near Albury, NSW, about 5am. In Queensland, a man died when his car hit a guardrail on the Nambour bypass road, on the Sunshine Coast, about 11am.

Church blaze during Good Friday service

The congregation of about 20 was preparing to begin the service when smoke was spotted coming from the roof by a late-arriving congregation member. As they battled the blaze, church members sat on the seats they had saved in the hope the building would be saved. The fire burnt across high wooden beams supporting the roof, and took about 30 minutes to extinguish. A HOUSE was destroyed, two others damaged and more than 25ha of grass blackened in three separate deliberately lit fires over the weekend. Arsonists struck at Glandore, Inman Valley, on the Fleurieu Peninsula, and Avenue Range, in the South-East.
