Modeling the Smart Factory Manufacturing Products Characteristics: The Perspective of Energy Consumption
Economic progress is built on the foundation of energy. In the industrial sector, smart factory energy consumption analysis and forecasts are crucial for improving energy consumption rates and also for creating profits. The importance of energy analysis and forecasting in an industrial environment is increasing speedily. It is a great chance to provide a technical boost to smart factories looking to reduce energy usage and produce more profit through the control and optimization modeling. It is tough to analyze energy usage and make accurate estimations of industrial energy consumption. Consequently, this study examines monthly energy consumption to identify the discrepancy between energy usages and energy needs. It depicts the link between energy consumption, demand, and various industrial goods by pattern recognition. The correlation technique is utilized in this study to figure out the link between energy usage and the weight of various materials used in product manufacturing. Next, we use the moving average approach to calculate the monthly and weekly moving averages of energy usages. The use of data-mining techniques to estimate energy consumption rates based on production is increasingly prevalent. This study uses the autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) and seasonal autoregressive integrated moving average (SARIMA) to compare the actual data with forecasting data curves to enhance energy utilization. The Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) performance evaluation result for ARIMA and SARIMA is 8.70 and 10.90, respectively. Eventually, the Variable Important technique determines the smart factory’s most essential product to enhance the energy utilization rate and obtain profitable items for the smart factory.
A Comparative Study of Energy Big Data Analysis for Product Management in a Smart Factory
Energy has been obtained as one of the key inputs for a country's economic growth and social development. Analysis and modeling of industrial energy are currently a time-insertion process because more and more energy is consumed for economic growth in a smart factory. This study aims to present and analyse the predictive models of the data-driven system to be used by appliances and find out the most significant product item. With repeated cross-validation, three statistical models were trained and tested in a test set: 1) General Linear Regression Model (GLM), 2) Support Vector Machine (SVM), and 3) boosting Tree (BT). The performance of prediction models measured by R2 error, Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE), Mean Absolute Error (MAE), and Coefficient of Variation (CV). The best model from the study is the Support Vector Machine (SVM) that has been able to provide R2 of 0.86 for the training data set and 0.85 for the testing data set with a low coefficient of variation, and the most significant product of this smart factory is Skelp.
Improving Spatial Agreement in Machine Learning-Based Landslide Susceptibility Mapping
Despite yielding considerable degrees of accuracy in landslide predictions, the outcomes of different landslide susceptibility models are prone to spatial disagreement; and therefore, uncertainties. Uncertainties in the results of various landslide susceptibility models create challenges in selecting the most suitable method to manage this complex natural phenomenon. This study aimed to propose an approach to reduce uncertainties in landslide prediction, diagnosing spatial agreement in machine learning-based landslide susceptibility maps. It first developed landslide susceptibility maps of Cox’s Bazar district of Bangladesh, applying four machine learning algorithms: K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN), Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP), Random Forest (RF), and Support Vector Machine (SVM), featuring hyperparameter optimization of 12 landslide conditioning factors. The results of all the four models yielded very high prediction accuracy, with the area under the curve (AUC) values range between 0.93 to 0.96. The assessment of spatial agreement of landslide predictions showed that the pixel-wise correlation coefficients of landslide probability between various models range from 0.69 to 0.85, indicating the uncertainty in predicted landslides by various models, despite their considerable prediction accuracy. The uncertainty was addressed by establishing a Logistic Regression (LR) model, incorporating the binary landslide inventory data as the dependent variable and the results of the four landslide susceptibility models as independent variables. The outcomes indicated that the RF model had the highest influence in predicting the observed landslide locations, followed by the MLP, SVM, and KNN models. Finally, a combined landslide susceptibility map was developed by integrating the results of the four machine learning-based landslide predictions. The combined map resulted in better spatial agreement (correlation coefficients range between 0.88 and 0.92) and greater prediction accuracy (0.97) compared to the individual models. The modelling approach followed in this study would be useful in minimizing uncertainties of various methods and improving landslide predictions.
Acceptability of Technologies to Support Early Dementia Detection: Qualitative Study With the Boston University Alzheimer's Disease Center Cohort
Dementia is on the rise globally due to increasing life expectancies and population growth. Digital technologies may help detect early signs, enabling timely interventions to slow or reverse cognitive decline. However, to support the successful implementation of these digital technologies into health care settings, they must be acceptable to target users. Older adults and those with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) are at risk of developing dementia in later life and need to be able to use these technologies in order for this intervention to be approved and implemented in clinical practice. This study explored the perspectives of older adults and those living with a clinical diagnosis of MCI on the acceptability of using various digital technologies that have the potential to support early dementia detection. Participants were recruited from Boston University's Alzheimer's Disease Research Center. Participants selected at least 2 technologies from 9 different wearables and software to use for 2 weeks, at 3-month intervals, over a total duration of 2 years. A subgroup of self-selecting participants was interviewed after the first 2 weeks of use to gather initial perspectives regarding the acceptability of using the digital technologies. An inductive framework thematic analysis approach was used, assisted by NVivo (version 14.23.2; QSR International). In total, 13 individuals living with a clinical diagnosis of MCI and 11 adults aged 65 years and older were interviewed. Our analysis identified five key themes: (1) gamification, (2) wearability, (3) user guidance, (4) burden of use, and (5) usefulness. Gamified apps were generally liked, although users with little experience of digital games needed time to adjust. Wearables resembling everyday accessories (eg, watches) were preferred, but complaints about tight or uncomfortable straps were frequently reported. Clear instructions were critical to support correct use, but many participants would have liked more troubleshooting support when technical issues arose. The use of 5 or more devices led to a high burden, especially when devices had practicality issues such as not being waterproof. Devices offering personal feedback were perceived as useful to satisfy personal interests, though some questioned their usefulness within health care. Participants raised concerns about losing valued personal interactions with health care professionals and questioned how their existing health conditions and treatment for such conditions may affect the validity of the data collected by the devices. These findings can guide researchers in choosing appropriate devices and minimizing burden. Future work should explore the views of those experiencing digital exclusion to ensure equitable access to dementia-detection technologies.
Mfge8 diminishes the severity of tissue fibrosis in mice by binding and targeting collagen for uptake by macrophages
Milk fat globule epidermal growth factor 8 (Mfge8) is a soluble glycoprotein known to regulate inflammation and immunity by mediating apoptotic cell clearance. Since fibrosis can occur as a result of exaggerated apoptosis and inflammation, we set out to investigate the hypothesis that Mfge8 might negatively regulate tissue fibrosis. We report here that Mfge8 does decrease the severity of tissue fibrosis in a mouse model of pulmonary fibrosis; however, it does so not through effects on inflammation and apoptotic cell clearance, but by binding and targeting collagen for cellular uptake through its discoidin domains. Initial analysis revealed that Mfge8-/- mice exhibited enhanced pulmonary fibrosis after bleomycin-induced lung injury. However, they did not have increased inflammation or impaired apoptotic cell clearance after lung injury compared with Mfge8+/+ mice; rather, they had a defect in collagen turnover. Further experiments indicated that Mfge8 directly bound collagen and that Mfge8-/- macrophages exhibited defective collagen uptake that could be rescued by recombinant Mfge8 containing at least one discoidin domain. These data demonstrate a critical role for Mfge8 in decreasing the severity of murine tissue fibrosis by facilitating the removal of accumulated collagen.
A simulation study of techno-economics and resilience of the solar PV irrigation system against grid outages
Water is the most fundamental need for better yield in agriculture. Worldwide, diesel and electricity are typically used to pump water which contributes to atmospheric pollution. Besides, a power outage affects the irrigation process badly. Without water, the crop may wither away, causing a substantial economic loss. This paper discusses the resilience of a solar PV system during a power outage. HOMER Pro software was used to perform the techno-economic analysis of solar-based irrigation for four major divisions of Bangladesh, while 1-hour power outage was assigned in REopt lite to model the survivability of the system against the grid outage. The simulation outcomes showed that the energy cost is $0.1496/kWh, $0.1502/kWh, $0.1557/kWh, and $0.1576/kWh for Rajshahi, Sylhet, Dhaka, and Chattogram, respectively. About 45% of excess electricity can be stored after fulfilling all requirements. The system is more economical than a microgrid-based water pumping system and a diesel-based system, and the photovoltaic system is technically and economically suitable to pump water if the nearest grid connection is impossible. When connected to the main utility grid, the system can survive without grid power for several hours, subject to daytime outages.
Current Scenario of Solar Energy Applications in Bangladesh: Techno-Economic Perspective, Policy Implementation, and Possibility of the Integration of Artificial Intelligence
Bangladesh is blessed with abundant solar resources. Solar power is considered the most desirable energy source to mitigate the high energy demand of this densely populated country. Although various articles deal with solar energy applications in Bangladesh, no detailed review can be found in the literature. Therefore, in this study, we report on the current scenario of renewable energy in Bangladesh and the most significant potential of solar energy’s contribution among multiple renewable energy resources in mitigating energy demand. One main objective of this analysis was to outline the overall view of solar energy applications in Bangladesh to date, as well as the ongoing development of such projects. The technical and theoretical solar energy potential and the technologies available to harvest solar energy were also investigated. A detailed techno-economic design of solar power applications for the garment industry was also simulated to determine the potential of solar energy for this specific scenario. Additionally, renewable energy policies applied in Bangladesh to date are discussed comprehensively, with an emphasis on various ongoing projects undertaken by the government. Moreover, we elaborate global insight into solar power applications and compare Bangladesh’s current solar power scenario with that of other regions worldwide. Furthermore, the potential of artificial intelligence to accelerate solar energy enhancement is delineated comprehensively. Therefore, in this study, we determined the national scenarios of solar power implementation in Bangladesh and projected the most promising approaches for large-scale solar energy applications using artificial intelligence approaches.
Assessment of Diabetic Retinopathy Vascular Density Maps
Optical coherence tomography (OCT) and OCTA were used for qualitative and quantitative assessment of retinal vascular density in superficial capillary plexus, deep capillary plexus, foveal avascular zone, and choroidal vascular density map. This study included 64 eyes. Diabetics and control groups were recruited from an internal medicine clinic at Misr University for Science and Technology Hospital and asked to participate in this study. This study was designed as an observational and cross-sectional study in the period from 8/2018 to 8/2019. There was a decrease in choroidal vascular density in diabetic patients. There was a decrease in retinal thickness in diabetic patients and there were no significant differences in the retinal thickness between control subjects and patients with non-diabetic retinopathy (NDR). Our study suggests that OCTA can identify preclinical DR before the manifestation of clinically apparent retinopathy. Our findings also highlight the potential role of OCTA in monitoring and quantifying retinal vascular alterations in diabetics.
The Distribution of Ocular Chlamydia Prevalence across Tanzanian Communities Where Trachoma Is Declining
Mathematical models predict an exponential distribution of infection prevalence across communities where a disease is disappearing. Trachoma control programs offer an opportunity to test this hypothesis, as the World Health Organization has targeted trachoma for elimination as a public health concern by the year 2020. Local programs may benefit if a single survey could reveal whether infection was headed towards elimination. Using data from a previously-published 2009 survey, we test the hypothesis that Chlamydia trachomatis prevalence across 75 Tanzanian communities where trachoma had been documented to be disappearing is exponentially distributed. We fit multiple continuous distributions to the Tanzanian data and found the exponential gave the best approximation. Model selection by Akaike Information Criteria (AICc) suggested the exponential distribution had the most parsimonious fit to the data. Those distributions which do not include the exponential as a special or limiting case had much lower likelihoods of fitting the observed data. 95% confidence intervals for shape parameter estimates of those distributions which do include the exponential as a special or limiting case were consistent with the exponential. Lastly, goodness-of-fit testing was unable to reject the hypothesis that the prevalence data came from an exponential distribution. Models correctly predict that infection prevalence across communities where a disease is disappearing is best described by an exponential distribution. In Tanzanian communities where local control efforts had reduced the clinical signs of trachoma by 80% over 10 years, an exponential distribution gave the best fit to prevalence data. An exponential distribution has a relatively heavy tail, thus occasional high-prevalence communities are to be expected even when infection is disappearing. A single cross-sectional survey may be able to reveal whether elimination efforts are on-track.
Assessment of Wearable Device Adherence for Monitoring Physical Activity in Older Adults: Pilot Cohort Study
Physical activity has emerged as a modifiable behavioral factor to improve cognitive function. However, research on adherence to remote monitoring of physical activity in older adults is limited. This study aimed to assess adherence to remote monitoring of physical activity in older adults within a pilot cohort from objective user data, providing insights for the scalability of such monitoring approaches in larger, more comprehensive future studies. This study included 22 participants from the Boston University Alzheimer's Disease Research Center Clinical Core. These participants opted into wearing the Verisense watch as part of their everyday routine during 14-day intervals every 3 months. Eighteen continuous physical activity measures were assessed. Adherence was quantified daily and cumulatively across the follow-up period. The coefficient of variation was used as a key metric to assess data consistency across participants over multiple days. Day-to-day variability was estimated by calculating intraclass correlation coefficients using a 2-way random-effects model for the baseline, second, and third days. Adherence to the study on a daily basis outperformed cumulative adherence levels. The median proportion of adherence days (wearing time surpassed 90% of the day) stood at 92.1%, with an IQR spanning from 86.9% to 98.4%. However, at the cumulative level, 32% (7/22) of participants in this study exhibited lower adherence, with the device worn on fewer than 4 days within the requested initial 14-day period. Five physical activity measures have high variability for some participants. Consistent activity data for 4 physical activity measures might be attainable with just a 3-day period of device use. This study revealed that while older adults generally showed high daily adherence to the wearable device, consistent usage across consecutive days proved difficult. These findings underline the effectiveness of wearables in monitoring physical activity in older populations and emphasize the ongoing necessity to simplify usage protocols and enhance user engagement to guarantee the collection of precise and comprehensive data.
