Software Configuration Management
2004
This IBM Redbook describes configuration management in general and
how it is implemented in the Rational products ClearCase and
ClearQuest. The target audience for this redbook is anyone
considering a software configuration management (SCM) solution, and
in particular, project managers and configuration management
leaders responsible for medium and large UCM deployments.
In Part 1 we introduce the general concept of software
configuration management (SCM), and why software asset and
lifecycle management is good business. We describe an SCM strategy
that leads to the ClearCase and ClearQuest products.
In Part 2 we provide the details for planning and implementing SCM
using a ClearCase environment, focusing on the test environment,
network, servers, and clients.
In Part 3 we introduce ClearQuest, its terminology, the roles and
responsibilities of the different types of users, and the
infrastructure required for a UCM environment. We also provide the
details for planning and implementing ClearQuest.
In Part 4 we introduce unified change management (UCM) using
ClearCase UCM and ClearQuest, including design considerations for
an effective UCM implementation, and how UCM is used to manage
complexity by raising the level of abstraction.
In Part 5 we describe how to do parallel development in multiple
geographical locations using ClearCase and ClearQuest MultiSite,
including detailed procedures for planning and implementing
MultiSite for a UCM environment.
AIX 5L Practical Performance Tools and Tuning Guide
2005
This IBM Redbook incorporates the latest AIX 5L performance and
tuning tools. It is a comprehensive guide about the performance
monitoring and tuning tools that are provided with AIX 5L Version
5.3, and it is the ultimate guide for system administrators and
support professionals who want to efficiently use the AIX
performance monitoring and tuning tools and understand how to
interpret the statistics.
The usage of each tool is explained along with the measurements it
takes and the statistics it produces. This redbook contains a large
number of usage and output examples for each of the tools, pointing
out the relevant statistics to look for when analyzing an AIX
system's performance from a practical point of view. It also
explains the performance API available with AIX 5L and gives
examples about how to create your own performance tools.
This redbook also contains an overview of the graphical AIX
performance tools available with AIX 5L and the AIX Performance
Toolbox Version 3.0.
This redbook is a rework of the very popular redbook AIX 5L
Performance Tools Handbook, SG24-6039, published in 2003.

IMS in the Parallel Sysplex, Volume I
This IBM Redbooks publication is the first volume of a series of
redbooks called IMS in the Parallel Sysplex. These redbooks
describe how IMS exploits the Parallel Sysplex functions and how to
plan for, implement, and operate IMS systems working together in a
Parallel Sysplex.Volume 1 provides an overview of the Parallel Sysplex and the
services offered to authorized programs such as IMS. It then
continues with the description of the functionality that IMS
provides in a Parallel Sysplex environment. Each function supported
by IMS is presented in one or more chapters. The topics
include:- Introduction to the Parallel Sysplex
- Block level data sharing
- Connectivity and workload balancing
- Shared queues
- Common Service LayerThe other volumes in this series are:
IMS in the Parallel Sysplex, Volume II: Planning the IMSplex,
SG24-6928
IMS in the Parallel Sysplex, Volume III: IMSplex Implementation and
Operations, SG24-6929
