Shashotep-Shutb
2018
The British Museum Asyut Region Project aims at reconstructing and preserving the deep history of the Asyut region through survey and documentation of its pharaonic and post-pharaonic heritage, including the varied responses of local communities who live atop the layers of history below. Two initial field seasons have concentrated on the modern village of Shutb, 5 km south of Asyut, which is believed to perch on top of the remains of ancient Shashotep. Documentation of (part of) the tell and an augering survey in its immediate surroundings confirm the presence of ancient remains underneath the modern village. Engagement with the most recent layers of history includes the documentation of Shutb’s outstanding vernacular architecture and capacity building and awareness sessions with local stakeholders.

The Beginning of Hieratic Writing in Egypt
2009
For lack of another designation, early inscriptions executed with reed-pen and ink are often designated as early hieratic writing. It is certain that cursive forms of hieroglyphs began to appear at a very early date, but one may wonder to what extent Early Dynastic ink-written entries display the features that were to become typical of the later hieratic script, such as simplification and abbreviation. The presented survey has the aim of tracing the form development of some early ink-written signs in more detail. We will discuss a few illustrative cases where early ink-written signs show an increasing cursiveness from the Naqada III period over the First Dynasty into the Second and where this development is the result of an increasing cursiveness towards hieratic writing.

2007
In March 2006, the Netherlands-Flemish Institute in Cairo started a preliminary survey at the site of el-Hosh, including recording and photography of the pharaonic rock inscriptions. The inscription presented here is believed to date to the end of the First Dynasty, and hence would be the oldest attestation of hieroglyphic writing in the area.

The Asyut Project: Eleventh Season of Fieldwork (2014)
2015
This report refers to the different tasks of fieldwork in the necropolis of Asyut. The southern part of the first hall of Tomb I was completely cleaned. Several shafts were found, which belong to the tomb. Late Middle Kingdom vessels in shaft 3 are a hint at the veneration of Djefai-Hapi I as a saint. In addition, shafts in close vicinity to the tomb were uncovered. One of them, Tomb P10.4, shows a small cluster of pottery belonging to the Middle Kingdom and a much larger group from the late New Kingdom. In addition, the skeletal remains often humans found in this shaft were studied. For the first time, a Naqada I-IIa-b pottery fragment was recovered, providing evidence for the existence of the necropolis already during this period. In Tomb M 12.3, epigraphic work focused on the inscriptional material, which allowed us to narrow down the date of the tomb. Late Roman and byzantine pottery from the so-called Hogarth Depot was examined. Also fragments of Old Kingdom wooden boxes and coffins were studied.

Introduction Previous studies showed that high and low body mass index (BMI) was associated with worse prognosis in metastatic CRC (mCRC). Whether BMI is a prognostic or predictive factor in mCRC is unclear. We aimed to assess efficacy outcomes according to BMI in patient with metastatic colorectal cancer treated with bevacizumab plus FOLFOX chemotherapy regimen in second-line treatment. Material and methods The analysis of 237 patients with metastatic colorectal cancer treated with bevacizumab plus FOLFOX in the second line (treated from January 2014 to August 2018) in 4 reference oncological centers in Poland. Results The median age of the patients was 65 years (range 34–82). The median overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) of the all 237 patient was 14.6 and 8.8 months, respectively. Comparison of obese patient (BMI > 30 kg/m2) vs. overweight patients (BMI ≥ 25 to < 30 kg/m2) vs. normal BMI range patients revealed a significant improvement of median OS (17.5 vs. 14.3 vs. 13.1 months, p = 0.01) and median PFS (9.4 vs. 9.1 vs. 7.3 months, p = 0.03). The Cox hazard model showed that the BMI class is an important risk factor. However, the Cox model also showed that the significance of the BMI class applies only to patients with BMI < 25 kg/m2. This rule applies to both OS and PFS. The regression analysis also confirmed that there is a statistically significant relationship between the length of OS and PFS and the BMI value. Higher BMI was associated with a better prognosis. There were no differences in responses to treatment bevacizumab and FOLFOX chemotherapy and number adverse events according to BMI values. Conclusions Patients with mCRC treated with chemotherapy with bevacizumab in second-line treatment with higher BMI compared with normal weight patients have better prognosis in terms of PFS and OS. In this group, we found no evidence of changes in safety profile depending on BMI. Nevertheless, further large randomized studies are needed to assess the body weight on the effectiveness of chemotherapy in combination with bevacizumab.
