2023
Introduction Over the last decade, the prevalence of mental illness and substance addiction has steadily increased in the United States (National Institute of Mental Health [NIMH], 2022) and research suggests their prevalence will continue to increase throughout the next decade (Walker et al, 2015). [...]preventing as well as effectively addressing behavioral health disorders has proven difficult. Examples include the development of a philanthropy guidebook for addressing behavioral health issues (Seeburger, 2020) and recent research into global mental health trends published with philanthropists in mind (lemmi, 2020). [...]a recent cluster of publications from within the institutional philanthropy ecosystem, such as Inside Philanthropy (Zimmerman, 2020), Health Affairs (Miller & Norris, 2017), and the National Network to Eliminate Disparities in Behavioral Health (NNED, 2020), suggests a strong interest among foundations in behavioral health grantmaking that could catalyze new and innovative responses to behavioral health disorders. [...]variation in the size of participating foundations was considerable. According to Foundation Source, over 70% of U.S. foundations have come into existence in the past 15 years (2021). [...]we report grantmakers' experiences with attempting to identify how they sought to make the greatest impact in behavioral health. [...]we detail the chal-lenges participants encountered when they entered behavioral health spaces.

Stock Spiral Duct for Negative Pressure Applications
2023
Based on new data, the allowable negative pressures for which \"stock\" spiral duct can be used have been updated One of spiral pipe's prominent selling points is its ability to handle high positive and negative pressures. Tennessee Tech University recently replicated this collapsing effect with both corrugated and non-corrugated \"stock\" spiral duct, ranging up to 42\" diameters, resulting in an updated table of allowable negative pressures in the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors' National Association HVAC Duct Construction Standards. Measurements were taken at negative pressure increments of 0.5\" WG up to 3.0\" WG, then at 1.0\" increments until one of the three occurred: A pressure of -20\" WG was obtained; Duct wall deflection exceeded 1.00\" at any location; or the duct collapsed.

What You May Not Know about New Markets Tax Credits
2017
Projects that provide 40 percent of their service to a nearby low-income neighborhood, have as little as 40 percent of their tangible property located in a low-income neighborhood or generate 50 percent of their gross income in a low-income neighborhood could all qualify. Because of the variety of ways that a project can qualify, NMTCs have been used in many economically stable communities. The NMTC program was authorized in the Community Renewal Tax Relief Act of 2000, designed to encourage private investment in areas that were traditionally underserved by the business lending and investment community. Low-income communities are geographic areas where, according to census data, the poverty rate is 20 percent or more, and the median family income does not exceed 80 percent of the metropolitan area or state [median income]. NMTCs have been used in a wide variety of projects, including repurposing historical buildings, bringing health care services to...

Don't REINVENT the Wheel
2020
[...]we no longer made our own hand patterns for duct fittings, and we all pretty much make duct the same way for dynamic performance (pressure drops and loss coefficients). The BSR/ASHRAE Standard 120 (2016) \"Method of Testing to Determine Flow Resistance of HVAC Ducts and Fittings,\" first published in 1999, established uniform methods of laboratory testing of HVAC ducts and fittings to determine their resistance to airflow. The ASHRAE Duct Fitting Database (current version 6.00.05), initially offered in 1994, is an online database with flow resistance data for over 200 spiral duct, rectangular and flat oval fittings.

TEAM Effort

Besides the obvious need for an approved product, they also needed to avoid penalties in duct cost or labor if they were to have a successful job. First of all, the cost was better than double-wall elasto - meric product. Because the phenolic board is more rigid than mineral fiber, you don't need spac - ers to keep the inner metal shell concentric with the outer shell. [...]the team of Team Sheetmetal, Spiral Pipe of Texas and A-Kool Distributing produced a solution for Ramirez-Simon Engineering and Texas A&M University that checked off all the boxes for a rooftop duct system.

Dollars and sense
2015
One case study by Semco titled \"Efficient Duct System Design\" illustrates the problem. In a very typical VAV duct system, there was almost 50 percent more square footage of surface area in the \"low pressure\" duct system versus the \"medium pressure\" duct system. We classify leakage as \"Cubic feet per minute per square footage of duct surface area.\" There were eight times as many transverse connections in the low-pressure duct.
