Searching for Files and Messages on Your Computer
This chapter is mostly about searching for programs, folders, files, and messages that are inside, or directly connected to, user's computer. Understanding how searches work in Windows 10 is critical to performing quick, successful searches. Most searches are performed on an index. The index is like the index at the back of this or any other book. The quick and easy way to find a program, Windows 10 app, favorite website, file, contact, or e‐mail message is to search right from the taskbar search field. User can do AND and OR searches from the Start menu. The chapter talks about these kinds of searches in more detail. When conducting searches in Windows 10, the searches do not look exclusively at file and folder names — they look at the contents of files, tags, and properties as well.

Troubleshooting Software Problems
This chapter helps user troubleshoot problems with programs running on Windows 10. Most programs have their own built‐in Help feature for a reason, because every program is unique. The only ways to get information about a specific program are from the Help that came with that program or from the support website for that program. The whole concept of troubleshooting applies only when user do know how to do something. Many software errors provide hexadecimal error numbers in their error messages. Searching for a combination of the program name and keywords from the error message text can sometimes provide clues. After researching a software problem, user may find that the solution involves a “Registry hack”, also known as “editing the Windows Registry”. Microsoft provides the Registry Editor described in the chapter because programmers and other IT professionals occasionally need to view or modify Registry entries.

Configuring Windows 10 Hyper‐V
This chapter explains how to configure the hypervisor (Hyper‐V) environment and install an operating system as a guest on a Windows 10 Hyper‐V host. It introduces the following points: running Hyper‐V; specifying a virtual machine (VM) server; creating virtual switches; and creating a VM. Once Hyper‐V is enabled on users' host computer, they must start the Hyper‐V manager to connect to the host server, which is the computer on which users want to run the guest VMs. To create a VM server, users use the Hyper‐V Manager. Among some of the settings they must select during this procedure is to establish the virtual hard disk location and folder in which they want to create the VM. For user' VM to use network resources, they must set up a virtual switch. This enables the virtual network interface card (virtual NIC) to communicate with the physical NIC on their host computer.
