Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is one of the most common complications of diabetes mellitus (DM) causing vision impairment even at young ages. There are numerous mechanisms involved in its development such as inflammation and cellular degeneration leading to endothelial and neural damage. These mechanisms are interlinked thus worsening the diabetic retinopathy outcome. In this review, we propose oxidative stress as the focus point of this complication onset.

Global trends in coronavirus research at the time of Covid-19: A general bibliometric approach and content analysis using SciMAT

Covid-19 represents the greatest challenge facing mankind today. In December 2019, several cases of pneumonia of unknown etiology were reported from China. This coronavirus infection subsequently identified as Covid-19 aroused worldwide concern. As a result, the scientific community has focused attention on Covid-19, as revealed by recent research reported in literature based on a holistic approach. In this regard, this study conducts a bibliometric analysis of coronavirus research in the literature with an emphasis on Covid-19 disease, using as a reference the publications in the Web of Science Core Collection from 1970 to 2020. This research analyzes 12,571 publications from 1970 to (April 18) 2020 by applying advanced bibliometric techniques in SciMAT bibliometric analysis software. The current research therefore provides a complete conceptual analysis of the main coronavirus types and strains in the literature by quantifying the main bibliometric performance indicators, identifying the main authors, organizations, countries, sources, and research areas, and evaluating the development of this field. Furthermore, a science map is constructed to understand the corresponding intellectual structure and main research lines (themes). SciMAT thereby offers a complete approach to the field and evaluates the main performance indicators related to coronavirus, with a focus on Covid-19. Finally, this research serves as a framework to strengthen existing research lines and develop new ones, establishing synergistic relationships that were not visible without the maps generated herein.

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a progressive disease induced by a sustained state of chronic hyperglycemia that can lead to several complications targeting highly metabolic cells. Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a multifactorial microvascular complication of DM, with high prevalence, which can ultimately lead to visual impairment. The genesis of DR involves a complex variety of pathways such as oxidative stress, inflammation, apoptosis, neurodegeneration, angiogenesis, lipid peroxidation, and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, each possessing potential therapeutic biomarkers. A specific treatment has yet to be developed for early stages of DR since no management is given other than glycemic control until the proliferative stage develops, offering a poor visual prognosis to the patient. In this narrative review article, we evaluate different dietary regimens, such as the Mediterranean diet, Dietary Pattern to Stop Hypertension (DASH) and their functional foods, and low-calorie diets (LCDs). Nutraceuticals have also been assessed in DR on account of their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antiangiogenic properties, which may have an important impact on the physiopathology of DR. These nutraceuticals have shown to lower reactive oxygen species (ROS), important inflammatory factors, cytokines, and endothelial damage biomarkers either as monotherapies or combined therapies or concomitantly with established diabetes management or nonconventional adjuvant drugs like topical nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).

The current research conducts a bibliometric performance and intellectual structure analysis of El profesional de la información (EPI) from 2006 to 2017. On the one hand, the EPI’s performance is analyzed according to the data retrieved from the database Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI), part of Web of Science Core Collection, putting the focus on the productivity of the authors, number of references, organizations, countries and main publications. On the other hand, the intellectual structure of the journal is analyzed with SciMAT, an open source (GPLv3) bibliometric software tool developed to perform a science mapping analysis under a longitudinal framework, identifying the main thematic areas that have been the object of research, their composition, relationship and evolution during the period analyzed.

Objective. The objective is to analyze the relationship between intellectual property and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) from the academic, scientific, and business perspectives indexed in Scopus to assess how intellectual property can boost or limit the achievement of the SDGs. Design/Methodology/Approach. The first research stage analyzes their performance and impact, while the second stage involves scientific mapping of the publications identified for both. This allows for studying the initial state of the topics from a common perspective to identify the relevant agents and issues in a given period. Results/Discussion. They show hierarchical and cross-cutting relationships between the clusters and highlight the centrality of the economic and regulatory approach, the relevance of environmental management and governance, and the growing role of digitization and the green economy. The thematic mapping offers a structured view of current knowledge and provides a strategic framework to guide future research and policy in the intersection between intellectual property and sustainable development. Conclusions. The analysis of the groups or clusters identified in recent literature reveals that this field of study is configured as an interdisciplinary, complex, and dynamic system, where intellectual property acts as an articulating axis of structural debates, practical applications, and emerging challenges. Originality/Value. The holistic approach to the intersection between the two concepts in various fields shows that while intellectual property can drive innovation, it can also hinder access to key technologies for developing countries. The analysis offers a crucial perspective for rethinking public policy and proposes aligning intellectual property protection with sustainability and social inclusion principles.

Purpose
The aim of this study is to compare the distance from the peroneal tendons sheath to the sural nerve in different points proximally and distally to the tip of the fibula.
Methods
Ten fresh-frozen lower extremities were dissected to expose the nerves and tendons. Having the posterior tip of the fibula as a reference, the distance between the tendons sheath and the sural nerve was measured in each point with a tachometer with three independent different observers. Two measures were taken distally at 1.5 and 2 cm from fibula tip and 3 measures were performed proximally at 2, 3, and 5 cm from fibula tip. Data were described using means, standard deviations, medians, and minimum and maximum values.
Results
The average distance between distance between the fibula tip and sural nerve is 16.6 ± 4.4 mm. The average distance between peroneal tendons sheath and the sural nerve at 5 cm, 3 cm, and 2 cm from the proximal fibular tip was 29.6 ± 3.2 mm, 24.2 ± 3.6 mm, and 19.7 ± 2.7 mm, respectively. The average distance between the peroneal tendons sheath and the sural nerve at 2 cm and 1.5 cm distal to fibular tip was 9.1 ± 3.5 mm and 7.8 ± 3.3 mm, respectively.
Conclusion
The distance from the peroneal tendons sheath to the sural nerve decreases from proximal to distal. As the distance between the peroneal tendons sheath and the sural nerve decreases from proximal to distal, performing the tendoscopy portal more distally would increase the risk of nerve iatrogenic injury.

Diabetic retinopathy is one of the leading causes of visual impairment and morbidity worldwide, being the number one cause of blindness in people between 27 and 75 years old. It is estimated that ~191 million people will be diagnosed with this microvascular complication by 2030. Its pathogenesis is due to alterations in the retinal microvasculature as a result of a high concentration of glucose in the blood for a long time which generates numerous molecular changes like oxidative stress. Therefore, this narrative review aims to approach various biomarkers associated with the development of diabetic retinopathy. Focusing on the molecules showing promise as detection tools, among them we consider markers of oxidative stress (TAC, LPO, MDA, 4-HNE, SOD, GPx, and catalase), inflammation (IL-6, IL-1ß, IL-8, IL-10, IL-17A, TNF-α, and MMPs), apoptosis (NF-kB, cyt-c, and caspases), and recently those that have to do with epigenetic modifications, their measurement in different biological matrices obtained from the eye, including importance, obtaining process, handling, and storage of these matrices in order to have the ability to detect the disease in its early stages.

Evaluation of Ocular and Systemic Oxidative Stress Markers in Patients with Diabetic Retinopathy

Proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) is the most severe complication of chronic hyperglycaemi stimulates oxidative stress that changes the retinal basement membrane function and provokes neovascularization, macular edema and retinal detachment. But an oxidative–antioxidant biomarker assessment in ocular matrices, such as aqueous humor (AH) and vitreous, might show the oxidative stress (OS) status in the posterior segment. Here, we show a cross-sectional analytical study of 39 patients who had a vitrectomy and assess the levels of different oxidative–antioxidant biomarkers in blood, aqueous and vitreous humor in three groups: diabetes mellitus 2 (DM2) with PDR [DM(+)PDR(+)] (n =13), DM2 without PDR [DM(+)PDR(−)] (n = 13) and non-DM2 non-PDR [DM(−)PDR(−)] as the control group (n = 13). Our finding suggests the presence of oxidative stress in diabetic retinopathy, as evidenced by increased levels of 8-isoprostanes and decreased levels of total antioxidant capacity from stages before the development of diabetic retinopathy. Our results reveal a notable increment in catalase levels in the DM(+)PDR(+) group in blood and vitreous humor. Likewise, we identified that the DM(+)PDR(−) group presents significant levels in 8-IP and SOD in vitreous humor and blood versus aqueous humor. These finding suggest the role of antioxidant enzymes in compensating oxidative stress mechanisms in PDR development.

In this work, we present power and quality measurements of four transmissions using different emission technologies in an indoor environment, specifically a corridor, at the frequency of 868 MHz under two non-line-of-sight (NLOS) conditions. A narrowband (NB) continuous wave (CW) signal has been transmitted, and its received power has been measured with a spectrum analyzer, LoRa and Zigbee signals have also been transmitted, and their Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) and bit error rate (BER) have been measured using the transceivers themselves; finally, a 20 MHz bandwidth 5G QPSK signal has also been transmitted and their quality parameters, such as SS-RSRP, SS-RSRQ and SS-RINR, have been measured using a SA. Thereafter, two fitting models, the Close-in (CI) model and the Floating-Intercept (FI) model, were used to analyze the path loss. The results show that slopes below 2 for the NLOS-1 zone and above 3 for the NLOS-2 zone have been found. Moreover, the CI and FI model behave very similarly in the NLOS-1 zone, while in the NLOS-2 zone, the CI model has poor accuracy in contrast to the FI model, which achieves the best accuracy in both NLOS situations. From these models, the power predicted with the FI model has been correlated with the measured BER value, and power margins have been established for which LoRa and Zigbee would each reach a BER greater than 5%; likewise, −18 dB has been established for the SS-RSRQ of 5G transmission.
