Two Closely Related Leaf Beetle Genera Aulacia Baly, 1867 and Colaspoides Laporte, 1833 from Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines, with Description of a New Genus Aulacioides gen. n. (Coleoptera, Chrysomelidae, Eumolpinae)
2024
A new genus of leaf beetles,
Aulacioides
gen. n., and a new species,
Aulacioides spiridonovi
sp. n., are described.
Aulacia
laeta
L. Medvedev, 2004 has been transferred to
Aulacioides
, comb. n., which is also the type species of the new genus. Four new species of
Aulacia
Baly are described:
A. guskovae
sp. n.,
A. limbipennis
sp. n.,
A. longicostata
sp. n., and
A. moseykoi
sp. n. Three new species of the genus
Colaspoides
Laporte are described from the Island of Java, Indonesia:
C. filimonovi
sp. n.,
C. fuscoaenoides
sp. n., and
C. pangrangensis
sp. n. Three more species of
Colaspoides
have been transferred to
Aulacia
:
A. bicoloricollis
(Medvedev et Romantsov, 2014),
A. cyaneipennis
(Medvedev, 2004), and
A. minuta
(Medvedev, 2006), all comb. n. New identification keys have been compiled to almost all species of the genus
Aulacia
, both species of
Aulacioides
gen. n., and all known species of
Colaspoides
from Java. The following new species groups showing similar characters are proposed: the
femorata
group from Borneo for the species with a narrow frons and a carina on the pygidium; this group includes
A. femorata
Baly, 1867;
A. fulviceps
Baly, 1867; and
A. longicostata
sp. n.; the
cyaneipennis
group, again from Borneo, for the species with a wide frons and a wide lateral border of the elytra, the aedeagus being truncated at the apex and bearing a denticle in the middle, and the pygidium showing no carina. This group includes
A. cyaneipennis
,
A. limbipennis
sp., and
A. moseykoi
sp. n. The
diversa
group is proposed, and its taxonomic status is discussed to incorporate three poorly studied and similar species of
Aulacia
:
A. diversa
Baly, 1867;
A. flavifrons
Jacoby, 1896; and
A. fulvicollis
Jacoby, 1899, all from Malacca and Sumatra and all sharing an entirely or partially black body upper side and several carinae on the sides of the elytra in females.
Aulacia brunnea
Jacoby, 1894 is recorded from Sumatra for the first time. Photographs of the adult habitus in dorsal view and of the genitals are provided for almost all the above closely related species. A new name,
Colaspoides alexei
nom. n., is proposed to replace
Colaspoides aeneoviridis
Romantsov et Moseyko, 2023, a junior homonym of
Colasposoma aeneoviride
Clark, 1865; the latter species was subsequently synonymized with
Colaspoides cuprea
Baly, 1867.

New Data on the Fauna of Leaf Beetles (Coleoptera, Chrysomelidae) from the South of the Russian Far East
2023
Four species are recorded from Russia for the first time:
Altica cirsicola
Ohno, 1960,
Neocrepidodera recticollis
(Jacoby, 1885),
Sphaeroderma tarsatum
Baly, 1874, and
Cassida koreana
Borowiec & Cho, 2011. A new color form of
Cryptocephalus flavoscutellaris
Medvedev, 1973 is described from Sakhalin. The variability of body coloration in
Cryptocephalus nigrofasciatus
Jacoby, 1885 is discussed. The following synonymy is confirmed:
Cryptocephalus nigrofasciatus
Jacoby, 1885 =
Cryptocephalus turpis
Chen, 1942. Two taxa,
Cryptocephalus sagamensis

2021
AbstractTwo new species of the leaf-beetles, Aphthona ussuriensissp. n. and Tricholochmaea ussuriensissp. n., are described from Primorskii Territory of Russia. Seven species are recorded from Russia for the first time: Lema concinnipennis Baly, 1865; Phratora ryanggangensis Gruev, 1994; Dibolia potanini Wiese, 1889; D. zaitzevi Medvedev, 1980; Longitarsus hopeianus Chen, 1941; L. piceorufus Chen, 1939; Luperomorpha nigra Chen, 1933. A new finding of Longitarsus nipponensis Csiki, 1940 in Russia is reported. A new color form of Cryptocephalus luridipennis Suffrian, 1854 is described from the Sikhote-Alin Mountains. New identification keys to all the species of the genera Aphthona and Luperomorpha and to the species of Monolepta with a yellow pattern on black elytra from the Russian Far East are compiled. Photographs of the dorsal habitus of the adults and of the aedeagus are provided for all the aforementioned species and also for those included in the keys and plus Aphthona hammarstroemi Jacobson, 1901, Tricholochmaea semifulva Jacoby, 1885, and Pyrrhalta flavescens (Weise, 1887) closely related to the new species described herein. Photographs of the spermatheca of Monolepta hieroglyphica biarcuata Weise, 1889 and M. quadriguttata (Motschulsky, 1860) and of the male pygidium of M. quadriguttata (Motschulsky, 1860) with a deep transverse depression are also given for the first time; the latter character is newly reported to distinguish M. quadriguttata from all the Far Eastern congeners.

A Review of the Leaf-Beetle Genus Aulacolepis Baly, 1863 (Coleoptera, Chrysomelidae: Eumolpinae)
2024
An emended description of the genus
Aulacolepis
is given, and the taxonomic status, diagnostic characters, and geographical distribution of its representatives are clarified. Two species groups which differ in the degree of dilation of the lateral margins of the elytra and in the density of the scales covering the dorsal side of the body are distinguished. The representatives of the
mouhoti
species-group distributed in mainland Indochina, the Malay Peninsula, and some adjacent islands have sparse scales on the dorsal side of the body and narrow lateral margins of the elytra. The species of the
decorata
group from Singapore and the Greater Sunda Islands have denser scales on the dorsal side of the body and widely flattened lateral margins of the elytra. Two new species of this genus have been described:
Aulacolepis malayana
sp. n.
inhabiting the Malay Peninsula and adjacent islands (including Phuket) and belonging to the
mouhoti
species group, and the Bornean
Aulacolepis borneensis
sp. n.
from the
decorata
species group.
Aulacolepis decorata
Baly, 1867 is recorded for Singapore and Java for the first time. An identification key is compiled for all the species of the genus, and photographs of the beetles and their genitalia are provided for the first time.

2022
AbstractA new species of the leaf beetle subfamily Cryptocephalinae, Cryptocephalus tauricussp. n., is described. Synonymy, variability, and distribution are analyzed, and a new key is given to 13 species of the subgenus Burlinius, which have entirely or partly yellow elytra and are distributed in the European part of Russia, in the Caucasus, and Transcaucasia. New diagnostic characters have been found for several species. Cryptocephalus macellus Suffrian, 1860 is recorded for the first time from Abkhazia and Armenia; C. macilentus Lopatin, 2001, from Armenia, and C. araxicola Iablokoff-Khnzorian, 1968, from Turkmenistan. A new synonymy is established: Cryptocephalus araxicola Iablokoff-Khnzorian, 1968 = C. xanthus Iablokoff-Khnzorian, 1968 syn. n.; = C. rastegari Rapilly, 1980, syn. n. A new pale color form of Cryptocephalus chrysopus (Gmelin, 1788) is described. For all the taxa considered, images of the adult habitus and male genitalia are given.
