Artificial Intelligence (AI) has the power to change the economy and lives. This paper highlights how AI can transform Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in India. It explores the competencies which an organization can gain by linking its socially responsible activities with AI. Unlike developed countries, AI is in a very nascent stage in India. On the other hand, it is mandatory for the organization to undertake CSR initiatives in India. Results reveal that organizations can be more efficient in their business operations if they incorporate AI technology with CSR. The amalgamation of AI and CSR can work wonders for an organization to be sustainable in India. This study tries to conceptualise AI into CSR through a theoretical model which needs further feasibility testing.

Pharmacies have hit the internet and received a warm response. Against the traditional way of buying medicines from pharmacy stores after seeking a medical advice, people are getting adapted to buying medicines online. A common practice among the druggists is to provide a substitute medicine. Customers are highly concerned and sensitive about their health. People are well aware of the fact that medicines though cure, are accompanied with major or minor side effects. Online availability of medicines has brought revolution in the health sector. Online pharmacies in India are in a nascent stage right now but have immense potential for growth. Online medicine market is growing at an exponential rate. Indian consumers are welcoming the trend of online buying of medicines. Online pharmacies provide facilities like home delivery, easy access and reminders to customers along with pocket-friendly offers. For marketers, it becomes all the more important to cater to the mindset of customers. Existing literature in the Indian context is limited to online buying of drugs by consumers without being specific to generic or non-generic. This brings forward a research gap to explore the online buying behaviour of consumers with respect to generic as well as nongeneric medicines.

Vibrational Spectroscopy, Quantum Computational and Molecular Docking Studies on 2-(1H-Benzimidazol-1-yl)-methylbenzoic Acid

Experimental and theoretical investigations on the optimized geometrical structure, electronic and vibrational features of 2-[(1H-benzimidazol-1-yl)-methyl]benzoic acid are provided using the B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) basis set. The Vibrational Energy Distribution Analysis (VEDA) program was used to perform the vibrational assignments and calculate the Potential Energy Distribution (PED). The acquired FT-IR and FT Raman data were used to complete the vibrational assignment and characterization of the compound fundamental modes. Theoretical and actual NMR chemical shifts were found to be quite similar. The UV-vis spectrum of 21HBMBA, as well as effects of solvents, have been investigated. The calculated HOMO and LUMO energies reveal that charge transfer happens within the molecule and MEP surface to be a chemically reactive area appropriate for drug action. Furthermore, a thorough examination of Non-Bonding Orbitals, excitation energies, AIM charges, Fukui functions and the Electron Localization Function (ELF) is carried out. The research is also expanded to compute first-order hyperpolarizability and forecast NLO characteristics. The details of the docking studies aided in the prediction of protein binding.

COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy among people living with HIV in a low-resource setting: A multi-center study of prevalence, correlates and reasons

Hesitancy to COVID-19 vaccine may worsen the burden of COVID-19 among people living with HIV (PLHIV), who are at a higher risk of COVID-19-related hospitalization and death, compared to HIV non-infected individuals. Therefore, we evaluate the predictors and reasons for COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy among unvaccinated PLHIV in six antiretroviral therapy (ART) clinics across northern Nigeria.
In this cross-sectional study, conducted between October 2021 and February 2022 in six hospitals across two geopolitical regions of Nigeria, we utilized interviewer-administered questionnaires to assess COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy among a convenience sample of 790 eligible adult PLHIV. Hesitancy was defined as answering ‘no' or ‘maybe’ to a question asking participants their willingness to accept the COVID-19 vaccine. A multivariate logistic regression model was used to estimate the adjusted odds ratio (aOR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) of the factors associated with COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy among PLHIV.
Of the total 660 unvaccinated participants included in the analysis (61.82% female, mean age [SD] of 39.76 [10.75]), 381 (57.72%) were hesitant to COVID-19 vaccine. Being 50 years and older (aOR: 0.43; 95% CI: 0.21–0.89), being unemployed (aOR: 0.57; 95% CI: 0.34–0.95), experiencing the adverse effects of ART (aOR: 0.36; 95% CI: 0.15–0.86), and perception of being at high risk of contracting COVID-19 (aOR: 0.22; 95% CI: 0.13–0.37) were associated with significantly lower odds of hesitancy. Conversely, being female (aOR: 1.64; 95% CI: 1.02–2.61) and attending ART clinics at state administrative capital cities (IIDH Kano [aOR: 2.40; 95% CI: 1.10–5.25], MMSH Kano [aOR: 5.59; 95% CI: 1.97–10.66], YSSH Damaturu [aOR: 9.88; 95% CI: 4.02–24.29] vs. GH Gashua) were associated with significantly higher odds of hesitancy. The most common reasons for hesitancy include fear of potential adverse effects, skepticism about vaccine efficacy, the rapid development of the COVID-19 vaccine, and the perceived lack of effort to develop a cure or vaccine for HIV/AIDS.
Interventions aimed at combating misperceptions and misinformation regarding the COVID-19 vaccination program may reduce the prevalence of COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy among unvaccinated PLHIV.

Heavy metals have an immense impact on aquatic ecosystems, and their toxic effects are transferred to the inhabiting organisms. Experiments were conducted to investigate the health of snow trout
Schizothorax esocinus
inhabiting Dal Lake. Heavy metals (Cd > Ni > Cu > Cr) were found to accumulate in the major immune organs of the fish (head kidney, liver, spleen, thymus) which led to change in the overall physiology. The head kidney, liver, and spleen of a fish contain high amount of these metals. The least accumulation of these metals was found in the blood, whereas Cd and Ni were completely absent in the integument. Hepatic marker enzymes (aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and alkaline phosphatase (ALP)) were normal, while the renal marker enzyme creatine kinase showed marked difference in its value. The cortisol level was normal, while immunoglobulin M showed elevated level representing active immunity. At a cellular level, the histopathology of immune organs showed marked damage. Metallothionein (
MT
) and glutathione peroxidase (
GPX
) genes showed variable expression pattern in the immune organs with the head kidney showing the highest expression of both the genes, and blood showed the least. We observed that the aquatic plants (
Nelumbo nucifera
and
Trapa natans
) inhabiting the lake played an important role in phytoremediation. An integrated approach involving biochemical, hematological, genotoxic, and histopathological studies can provide a valuable information to understand fish adaptive patterns and monitor water quality.

Proportion of paediatric admissions with any stage of noma at the Anka General Hospital, northwest Nigeria

Noma is a rapidly spreading infection of the oral cavity which mainly affects young children. Without early treatment, it can have a high mortality rate. Simple gingivitis is a warning sign for noma, and acute necrotizing gingivitis is the first stage of noma. The epidemiology of noma is not well understood. We aimed to understand the prevalence of all stages of noma in hospitalised children.
We conducted a prospective observational study from 1st June to 24th October 2021, enrolling patients aged 0 to 12 years who were admitted to the Anka General Hospital, Zamfara, northwest Nigeria. Consenting parents/ guardians of participants were interviewed at admission. Participants had anthropometric and oral examinations at admission and discharge.
Of the 2346 patients, 58 (2.5%) were diagnosed with simple gingivitis and six (n = 0.3%) with acute necrotizing gingivitis upon admission. Of those admitted to the Inpatient Therapeutic Feeding Centre (ITFC), 3.4% (n = 37, CI 2.5-4.7%) were diagnosed with simple gingivitis upon admission compared to 1.7% of those not admitted to the ITFC (n = 21, CI 1.1-2.6%) (p = 0.008). Risk factors identified for having simple gingivitis included being aged over two years (2 to 6 yrs old, odds ratio (OR) 3.4, CI 1.77-6.5; 7 to 12 yrs OR 5.0, CI 1.7-14.6; p = <0.001), being admitted to the ITFC (OR 2.1; CI 1.22-3.62) and having oral health issues in the three months prior to the assessment (OR 18.75; CI 10.65, 33.01). All (n = 4/4) those aged six months to five years acute necrotizing gingivitis had chronic malnutrition.
Our study showed a small proportion of children admitted to the Anka General Hospital had simple or acute necrotizing gingivitis. Hospital admission with malnutrition was a risk factor for both simple and acute necrotizing gingivitis. The lack of access to and uptake of oral health care indicates a strong need for oral examinations to be included in routine health services. This provision could improve the oral status of the population and decrease the chance of patients developing noma.
