Aspects of Digitalization and Related Impact on Green Tourism in European Countries
The digital world requires the implementation of new technologies and customer-driven business transformation. As the tourism sector may experience unanticipated ways of developing new technologies due to the current global health crisis, the standard travel experience could be changed. The main aim of this study was to analyze the influence of digitalization and tourists’ preferences in terms of accommodation and economic well-being implying sustainability. This paper applied a regression analysis and principal component analysis to achieve the above objective. Research exposed the fact that tourists’ preferences towards green destinations and ecological accommodation establishments, as well as Internet use in travel planning, may have a significant influence on the sustainability of tourism. This study identified behavioral models of 30 European countries from the sustainable tourism and digitalization perspective and made recommendations on economic and social policy measures to ensure the sustainable nature of tourism activity.
The Social Impact of Using Artificial Intelligence in Education
Artificial intelligence currently represents one of the most talked about topics, considering the need for sustainable economic growth at a global level. When it comes to education, artificial intelligence is aimed at enhancing systems, ways of learning, as well as at the results of learning, on the one hand, and training the youth so as to accordingly satisfy the requirements of their future jobs, on the other hand. In this context, research on higher education in Romania was conducted, which analysed the students’ opinion on the social impact of using artificial intelligence in education. As a consequence of performing an opinion poll, answers were collected online from students from prestigious Romanian universities. The data registered for the mentioned objective was processed by applying three statistical and econometric logistic regression models. The results of the first binary logistic model show the respondents’ opinions on the need and importance of enhancing the learning experience by using artificial intelligence in education, considering their gender and level of education. Also, with respect to the two characteristics considered the most significant to the objective of the paper, the following two multinominal logistic models have been developed. The results highlight the way in which the use of artificial intelligence in education influences, on the one hand, the graduates’ prospect for a job and, on the other hand, the society as a whole.
Actions Driving the Adoption of Responsible Consumption among Romanians
Adopting responsible consumption in Romania requires an integrated approach involvinggovernment, business, non-governmental organizations, and last but not least, citizens.Through awareness raising, education, and facilitating access to information, Romania canbuild a society in which responsible consumption becomes the norm, thus contributing toprotecting the environment and promoting a sustainable and fair economy. Romania facessignificant challenges related to sustainability and social responsibility, and adoptingresponsible consumption is a key way to contribute to solving these problems. The researchis based on qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA), which is used to identify the factorsand combinations of conditions that influence the adoption of responsible consumption. Thispaper presents the actions that determine this adoption and identifies the most effectivesolutions to support the process. The study focusses on ways to promote responsibleconsumption in Romania, highlighting concrete strategies to stimulate the behavioral changesnecessary for a more sustainable society. Natural resources are increasingly scarce, so theenvironmental impact needs to be minimized, under these conditions responsibleconsumption becomes an essential objective. Change must be at both individual andcorporate levels.
Investigating the Key Factors Influencing the Profitability of Romanian Public Water Supply and Sewerage Services
This paper explores the dynamics of the public water supply and sewerage service in Romania, focusing on the relationships between different operational, commercial and financial variables and their impact on the operating profit rate. The aim of the paper is to analyze the interactions, both in the short and in the long term, between these economic variables, using an advanced econometric methodology, by applying the ARDL (Autoregressive Distributed Lag) model. The analysis was carried out on a dataset of 11 annual cycles, allowing to assess the stability and dynamics of the relationships studied. The results indicate a positive correlation between water infrastructure expansion and the rate of profit, suggesting that investments in network length can contribute to the economic growth of the sector. In contrast, tariff increases showed a long-term negative impact on the profit rate, reflecting consumers' sensitivity to price changes. Efficient management of non-revenue water and damage reduction were also found to be key to improve financial performance and increase sustainability. The paper provides an in-depth understanding of market mechanisms and can support the development of more effective public policies for water resource management in the context of current socio-economic and environmental challenges.
The characterization of the Romanian circular economy's potential, at county level
The complexity of the challenges faced by the world economy over the past decades is a clear indication that the linear economic model that starts with the exploitation of resources and ends with the disposal of waste is almost reaching its limits. These limitations are obvious in the following areas: resource exploitation, environment, economic added value of a unit of consumed resource, and also on the labour market. Under these circumstances, the circular economy model, which provides feasible solutions for all of these areas where the linear economic model shows its limitations, becomes an alternative to be taken into account. Although these challenges are global in nature, it is obvious that a functional global circular economy can be built incrementally starting from the interconnection of national circular economies that rely on interconnected regional circular economies. Using this hypothesis, in this paper we propose an indicator that can be used for a multi-criteria evaluation of the potential for developing a circular economy at national level, for the case of Romania. Our proposed approach allows the assessment of the county's potential based on a six-dimensional indicator and on 16 individual variables, built on a methodology similar to the one used for the indicator measuring the potential of an economy to attract foreign direct investment proposed by UNCTAD (United Nations Conference on Trade and Development) in WIR2012 (World Investment Report 2012). Thus, using the 16 variables collected for the period 2008-2014, the circular economy potential indicator was calculated based on the NIS and NTRO databases. Among the most important empirical results are the identification of the concentration poles, which, in 2014, are represented by the city of Bucharest and by the counties: Braila, Constanta, Mures, Alba, Sibiu and Maramures and the identification of areas with low potential, which are Oltenia, Muntenia and the central and north-eastern area of Moldova.
Manifestations of the European Ecological Footprint from the Perspective of Social Responsibility Codes
The process of converting the economy to more sustainable production forms is the essence of bio-economy, currently becoming more and more important in all the European countries. Sustainability is a complex concept that can be quantified through an entire system of indicators. A “marker” of corporate environmental responsibility, of the extent and manner in which the companies apply social responsibility codes is the ecological footprint. The present study identifies, using a cumulative ordinal logistic regression model with proportional odds, the factors with significant impact on the behavioral changes of the ecological footprint of the production, for finding ways of increasing the sustainability in the business environment, through a better application of social responsibility codes. At the same time, the variables included in the model were selected in accordance with the principles of the European Corporate Social Responsibility Strategy, serving as criteria for the hierarchy and clustering of European countries, for identifying patterns and predicting the behavior of ecological footprint of production, as a prerequisite for optimizing social environmental responsibility and applying social responsibility codes in the business environment. The analysis results indicate that the educational level of labor force, the degree of economic freedom and the use of renewable energy sources have a significant positive influence on the ecological footprint behavior, while the social exclusion has a significant negative effect, with a major impact on the prospects of sustainable growth, specific to bio-economy.
Approaches to Leadership from the Perspective of Generation Z
Generation Z poses a significant challenge for organizations, as its members express a clear preference for adaptive leaders who are capable of navigating change effectively. This generation, however, is poised to become the leaders of tomorrow. Regardless of generational affiliation, all individuals must possess a high degree of self-awareness to successfully adapt to future demands. This paper examines the leadership perspectives of Romanian high school students. The motivation behind this research stems from the contemporary relevance of Generation Z's views on leadership. A quantitative approach was employed, utilizing a structured survey to gather responses from high school students regarding their views on leadership. The objectives of this study include identifying the leadership style favoured by these students and exploring the factors that influence their leadership preferences. The survey was conducted online in February 2024 using Google Forms, and the data were analysed with Microsoft Excel and SPSS statistical software. 1 hope that the findings of this research will be valuable to those interested in this topic, particularly PhD students and others seeking a deeper understanding of Generation Z's approach to leadership.
Entrepreneurs' Perception of Their Skills and the Influence of Education on the Romanian Entrepreneurial System
The business environment can provide entrepreneurs with an adequate or restrictive framework by the existence or, on the contrary, the absence of legal, economic, social and politic facilities. In this sense, its analysis becomes a continuous necessity and, at the same time, a premise for the viability of the company. Starting from these grounds, this paper is aimed at investigating the relation between the entrepreneurial system and the business environment through selective research regarding the motivational aspects and the economic premises for the initiation and operation of companies in the Romanian business environment. Performed on a sample of 276 entrepreneurs, via a questionnaire, the main objectives of the research were to estimate the influence exerted by the main characteristics of business environment on the foundation of a company and to identify the characteristics of entrepreneurs in order to develop an entrepreneur profile. Due to the defining importance of entrepreneurial education, the research was focused on the identification and assessment of the skills that the investigated entrepreneurs possessed. The originality of the paper is given by the identification of the entrepreneurs' characteristics and skills tightly correlated with the idiosyncrasies of Romanian business environment.
Consumers' perception on the use of innovative technologies in creating store atmosphere
The increase of competitiveness in retail sales generates the diversification of purchase options, increase of consumers' demands and, implicitly, the change of their purchasing behaviour. In this context, the selection made by consumers regarding the stores where to purchase from represents a complex decision-making process, conditioned upon the functional and psychological characteristics, among which store atmosphere plays a special part. Moreover, in order to obtain some competitive advantages within an environment that generates specific emotional effects on the buyers, the sellers allocate significant investment resources aimed at implementing some innovative technologies to create store atmosphere. Starting from these considerations, our research aims to identify consumers' perception of the use of innovative technologies in creating store atmosphere. This paper was performed on the basis of an original questionnaire and, for the specialty literature in Romania, it represents the first research elaborated on this subject. The direct research has been conducted by means of a questionnaire-based survey to which 492 persons answered during September-November 2014. The research intended to establish the criteria for stores selection and the role atmosphere plays in this choice, as well as the identification of interest and level of knowledge of some innovative technologies in this field. The research results emphasise the fact that over 75% of respondents have a positive perception on the use of innovative technologies in order to generate a pleasant atmosphere and they are interested in the advantages they bring to the purchasing process.
Feminine leadership and organizational culture
People in general, leaders especially, are influenced by the organisational culture and the other way around. Organizational culture represents a determining factor regarding the display of leader ship, since these two processes create each other, adding value and consistency to one another. Moreover, organizational culture can be created and developed in a fluctuation business environment, in which the external factors influence its progress. The development of society has incessantly been emphasized by the relationship between the sexes, by their individual evolution, but also by the interdependence between them. Although there is increasingly more talk about gender equality, in many countries, the social as well as economical chances and opportunities are not equal for women and men. Gradually, women have been through a series of changes related to education, rights and obligations. However, the number of women leaders has always been much lower than the number of men leaders. The personality traits of leaders significantly influence the leadership style and the way in which they are perceived by their subordinates, all this having a major impact on the overall performances of the organization. In this manner, depending on the gender (masculine/feminine), we can state that one could observe certain personality traits that are characteristic to women and others specific to men, leaving their mark on the leadership method and on the leadership style adopted of each of them. Considering the fact that, in the current turbulent economic environment, certain qualities such as flexibility, intuition, development of communication networks and motivating the employees represent values that are considered to be ‘feminine”, one can assert that, in this case, gender is an opportunity. However, we should fake in to consideration the impact of culture, of certain qualities and misconceptions that are still present, regarding the woman’s standing in society, economy and politics, we can state that gender is a discriminating factor, because there is still the tendency to consider men as being better leaders.
