2023
This research provides value to marketing researchers and professionals in regard to what triggers customers to purchase compulsively by studying the impact of materialism and self-congruence on the obsessive–compulsive buying behaviour (OCBB) of apparel by university students and the mediating role of brand attachment on these relationships. A total of 322 online questionnaires were gathered from university students who shop frequently. The PLS-SEM approach was used for data analysis using the SmartPLS V.3.3.3. software. The findings show that there is a relationship between Materialism, Brand attachment, self-congruence, and OCBB and that both self-congruence and materialism influence brand attachment. Finally, Brand attachment mediates both the relationship between Materialism and OCBB, as well as that between Self-congruence and OCBB. This is one of the first researches to study the mediating role of brand attachment on both relationships in one conceptual model and in an emerging market. The suggested implications include the launch of an awareness campaign on the negative consequences of OCBB on young adults, especially with the current economic conditions. In addition to implications for apparel brand managers on how they can utilize the established relationships to enhance their marketing plans which could increase long-term profitability.

PurposeExploring the critical role of recommendation system characteristics (Accuracy, Novelty, and Diversity) in shaping customer experience and their subsequent impact on customers’ intention to subscribe to online music streaming services, by addressing the gap in existing literature and focusing on their nontechnical implications.Design/methodology/approachA conceptual framework was developed to investigate the proposed direct and indirect relationships. Data were collected using an online questionnaire from 400 respondents who have used music streaming platforms. Structural equation modeling was employed to test the hypotheses and examine the fit of the conceptual model.FindingsThe findings highlight the substantial direct and indirect effects of recommendation system accuracy on customer subscription intention and experience. In contrast, novelty and diversity have less direct impacts on subscription intention. However, they influence it indirectly through the mediating role of customer experience.Originality/valueThe originality of this research lies in its focus on the intersection of consumer behavior and technology adoption within the music streaming sector. Unlike traditional studies that emphasize algorithmic or technical aspects of recommendation systems, this paper shifts the focus to psychological and behavioral outcomes, such as customer experience and subscription intention. This perspective is underexplored and offers a novel contribution to both academia and industry.

Customer satisfaction is an important dimension for performance measurement for any organization. Customer satisfaction plays a key role in the banking sector as it is important for the development of a good relationship with customers which eventually affects the financial performance of banks. There has always been a challenge in identifying the criteria that should be used for customer satisfaction measurement, service quality in banks depends a lot on the employee professionalism especially for employees of customer service departments of banks. Moreover, excellent service quality is vital for business profitability and survival in banking sector. This research recommends measures that can be used to measure client satisfaction and evaluates its impact on the financial performance of banks in two types of private banks in Egypt, conventional banks and Islamic banks through studying a sample of bank clients in one of each type. This study shows customer satisfaction as a predictor of bank profitability. The purpose of this paper is to identify the main financial and non-financial aspects or factors that lead to customer satisfaction in banking services and then to determine to what extent customer satisfaction affects the banks' profitability. Moreover, the research also investigates whether there is a difference in customer satisfaction factors in conventional banking from Islamic banking.

2020
PurposeThe purpose of this study is to investigate through an empirical research the factors that would attract visitors to heritage and cultural sites as museums applied on the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM). The paper aims to study the impact of the proposed attraction features learning/knowledge, museum facilities, fun/entertainment and socializing and accessibility/location on pre-visit destination image.Design/methodology/approachThe author started by a thorough literature review to arrive to the suggested conceptual model, which is tested by adopting a quantitative approach where data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire from a convenient sample of 300 respondents with 90% response rate and used partial least squares – structure equation modelling using Smart PLS v.3.2.8.FindingsThe results show that three of the tested factors were accepted and one was rejected.Practical implicationsManagement of GEM, which will be one of the biggest museums world-wide, can make use of the empirical results of this research to enhance their understanding of the factors that impact pre-visit destination image, and thus, most attract visitors to justify the budget set in this huge project and achieve highest visitation and revenueOriginality/valueThis research deals with a new museum that has not opened its doors yet and will start functioning in late 2020, and thus, the pre-visit image of the museum is not based on previous experience of visitors but rather on secondary sources as messages sent to visitors based on attraction features, while most previous studies dealt with post-visit image of museums

The purpose of this research is to build and evaluate a theoretical model capable of forecasting public participation in mega events. This study predicts event tourism participation using a mixed behaviour model based on a trust model and a deliberate actions model. Using data from 261 local and international visitors, structural equation modelling was engaged to examine the study hypotheses. According to the study's results, observed benefits were positively connected with people’s perspective, but observed obstacles were negatively associated, and observed benefits had a positive influence on interactive mechanism and observed obstacles had a negative influence on interactive mechanism. Additionally, the study's results suggested that individuals' intention to participate in mega events was positively influenced by their observed benefits, perspective, interactive mechanism, and normative beliefs and negatively influenced by observed obstacles. Finally, we perceived that observed risk significantly moderated the associations between observed benefits, observed obstacles and perspective, observed benefits, observed obstacles and interactive, lastly, observed benefits, observed obstacles, perspective, interactive mechanism, normative beliefs and intention to participate in events. The research's outcomes have significant hypothetical and applied effects for mega-events travel.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) presents a major global health threat, driven in part by the inappropriate use of antibiotics including in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Improving the quality of antibiotic use is a key rationale for the development of the WHO's AWaRe (Access, Watch and Reserve) system. There is a need to review the uptake of the AWaRe system since its launch to guide future practice.
A literature search was conducted between 2017, the launch of AWaRe, and 2024. Inclusion criteria were studies that reported on antibiotic use in LMICs using the AWaRe system.
Eighty-five studies were included in the review, of which 56.4% focused on antibiotic use trends, with 28.2% reporting on prescribing patterns; 51.7% of the studies included inpatients. Only 14.1% of studies reported meeting the 2024 United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) AMR recommended target of at least 70% of human antibiotic use being Access antibiotics, with a concerning trend of overuse of Watch antibiotics (68.2% of studies). Dispensing practices revealed significant dispensing of antibiotics without prescriptions especially in Pakistan and Bangladesh. Watch antibiotics were more available but also more expensive than Access antibiotics.
Encouragingly, many LMICs are now reporting antibiotic use via the AWaRe system, including in antimicrobial stewardship programmes (ASPs). Wide variation exists in the proportion of AWaRe antibiotics used across LMICs, with overuse of Watch antibiotics. There is an urgent need for targeted AWaRe-based ASPs in LMICs to meet recent UNGA recommendations. Improving the use, availability and affordability of Access antibiotics is essential to combat AMR.

Most management decisions for the diagnosis and treatment of hypertension are made using blood pressure (BP) measurements made in the clinic. However, home BP recordings may be of superior prognostic value. In this review, we show that home BP recordings are generally superior to clinic BP measurements in predicting long-term prognosis. Home BP has been shown to significantly predict important end points including all-cause mortality, progression of chronic kidney disease, and functional decline in the elderly. In addition, home BP recordings significantly and strongly predict cardiovascular events. These findings are robust, as they concur despite having been studied in disparate populations, using heterogeneous methods of clinic and home BP measurement, and with varied methods of statistical analysis. The advantages of home BP recordings are not due solely to a larger number of measurements, and they extend to the elderly, patients with chronic kidney disease, and those on hemodialysis. Because home BP recordings combine improved accuracy with the advantages of low cost and easy implementation, most patients with known or suspected hypertension should have their BP assessed and managed by means of home BP recordings.
