يسلط الكاتب أضواء كاشفة على تعاظم سرعة \"المعجزة الاقتصادية\" في الصين، ويبدو أن كل شي تغير في مثل لمح البصر، وكان ذلك على غرار القفز الطويل حيث جعل الصينيين يقفزون من عصر العوز المادي إلي عصر البذخ والتبذير، ومن عصر السياسة في المقام الأول إلى عصر المال أولا، ومن عصر غريزة القمع إلي عصر الاندفاع والتهور والانغماس في اللهو والمجون، لقد انقضي ثلاثون عاما وأكثر كأنها قفزة في الهواء. وكأن كاتبنا، الذي عاش في كنف التغيرات الهائلة والتحولات الكبري التي اجتاحت الصين في نصف القرن الأخير كان كالسمكة التي تسكن بحورا عميقة تروح وتجئ وسط الغموض تغزل طريقها بين سيقان أعشاب ضخمة فوق أماكن تضوي فيها أشعة الشمس، وتغوص إلى أسفل وأسفل حتى تصل إلي ظلام بارد عميق غامض، وفجأة تنطلق إلى السطح وتلهو فوق الأمواج التي تداعبها الريح، يمسك كاتبنا مبضعه الأدبي-النفسي، ويوضح نقطة سيكولوجية مهمة كأنه الطبيب النفسي الذي يشرح داخل وأعماق النفس الإنسانية، ويقول : إن عصر الكبت المتطرف بعد أن شهد التغيرات الاجتماعية الهائلة من المحتوم أن ينبثق منه عصر آخر مغاير تماما من التسامح المتطرف، وذلك يشبه اللعب على الأرجوحة حيث عندما ينخفض أحد طرفيها، فمن المؤكد أن يعلو كثيرا الطرف الآخر المتأرجح. ولا ينفك يحذر من مغبة أن الحياة الاجتماعية غير المتوازنة من المؤكد أن تجلب الأحلام غير المتوازنة التي بدروها تفرز أحلام التطرف والسعي وراء النجاحات السريعة والقفز فوق المراحل.
Abscisic acid biosynthesis, metabolism and signaling in ripening fruit

Fruits are highly recommended nowadays in human diets because they are rich in vitamins, minerals, fibers and other necessary nutrients. The final stage of fruit production, known as ripening, plays a crucial role in determining the fruit’s quality and commercial value. This is a complex physiological process, which involves many phytohormones and regulatory factors. Among the phytohormones involved in fruit ripening, abscisic acid (ABA) holds significant importance. ABA levels generally increase during the ripening process in most fruits, and applying ABA externally can enhance fruit flavor, hasten softening, and promote color development through complex signal regulation. Therefore, gaining a deeper understanding of ABA’s mechanisms in fruit ripening is valuable for regulating various fruit characteristics, making them more suitable for consumption or storage. This, in turn, can generate greater economic benefits and reduce postharvest losses. This article provides an overview of the relationship between ABA and fruit ripening. It summarizes the effects of ABA on ripening related traits, covering the biochemical aspects and the underlying molecular mechanisms. Additionally, the article discusses the interactions of ABA with other phytohormones during fruit ripening, especially ethylene, and provides perspectives for future exploration in this field.

Comparative Performance of Endoscopic Ultrasound-Based Techniques in Patients With Pancreatic Cystic Lesions: A Network Meta-Analysis

Evidence on the comparative diagnostic performance of endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-based techniques for pancreatic cystic lesions (PCLs) is limited. This network meta-analysis comprehensively compared EUS-based techniques for PCL diagnosis.
A comprehensive literature search was performed for all comparative studies assessing the accuracy of 2 or more modalities for PCL diagnosis. The primary outcome was the diagnostic efficacy for mucinous PCLs. Secondary outcomes were the diagnostic efficacy for malignant PCLs, diagnostic success rate, and adverse event rate. A network meta-analysis was conducted using the ANOVA model to assess the diagnostic accuracy of each index.
Forty studies comprising 3,641 patients were identified. The network ranking of the superiority index for EUS-guided needle-based confocal laser endomicroscopy (EUS-nCLE) and EUS-guided through-the-needle biopsy (EUS-TTNB) were significantly higher than other techniques for differentiating mucinous PCLs; besides, EUS-TTNB was also the optimal technique in identifying malignant PCLs. The evidence was inadequate for EUS-nCLE diagnosing malignant PCLs and contrast-enhanced harmonic EUS diagnosing both mucinous and malignant PCLs. Glucose showed a high sensitivity but low specificity, and molecular analysis (KRAS, GNAS, and KRAS + GNAS mutations) showed a high specificity but low sensitivity for diagnosing mucinous PCLs. Satisfactory results were not obtained during the evaluation of the efficiency of pancreatic cyst fluid (PCF) biomarkers in detecting malignant PCLs.
For centers with relevant expertise and facilities, EUS-TTNB and EUS-nCLE were better choices for the diagnosis of PCLs. Further studies are urgently required for further improving PCF biomarkers and validating the diagnostic performance of the index techniques.

Several major herb pairs containing Coptidis rhizoma: a review of key traditional uses, constituents and compatibility effects

Herb compatibility is the soul of traditional Chinese Medicine prescriptions. Coptidis rhizoma (CR) ( Coptis chinensis Franch., Coptis deltoidea C.Y.Cheng et Hsiao, or Coptis teeta Wall.; family Ranunculaceae), is a well-known herb. The bitter and cold nature of CR can irritate the spleen and stomach, and certain ingredients in CR may trigger allergic reactions. Herb combinations can help alleviate the side effects caused by CR. Through data analysis and literature research, there are many herbs combined with CR have a high frequency, but only a few are currently used as formulae in clinical practice. The results showed that these six herb pairs are usually widely studied or used as prescriptions in the clinic. This paper describes the six herb pairs from the key traditional uses, changes in bioactive constituents, and compatibility effects, especially with Euodiae fructus (family Rutaceae), Scutellariae radix (family Lamiaceae), Magnoliae Officinalis cortex (family Magnoliaceae), Glycyrrhizae radix et rhizoma (family Fabaceae), Ginseng radix et rhizoma (family Araliaceae), and Aucklandiae radix (family Asteraceae), and found that herbs are more effective when used in combination. Therefore, it is feasible to establish some methods to study herb pairs comprehensively from different perspectives. This paper aims to provide the latest and most comprehensive information on the six herb pairs and summarize the pattern of CR compatibility effects. It aims to attract more attention, and further experimental studies will be conducted to investigate and evaluate the effects of herb pairs containing CR. These data can also provide valuable references for researchers and also provide more possibilities for future applications in clinical practice and new drug development.

New Bioactive Sesquiterpeniods from the Plant-Derived Endophytic Fungus Schizophyllum sp. HM230

Endophytic fungi provide valuable sources for the discovery of secondary metabolites that can be used as lead compounds in drug discovery. In this study, four new sesquiterpenoids with a farnesane backbone, schizophyllol A–B (1–2) and schizophylloside A–B (3–4), together with five known analogues (5–9), were isolated from the plant-derived fungus Schizophyllum sp. HM230. Their structures were established through extensive spectroscopic analyses including HR-ESI-MS and 1D and 2D NMR. The antioxidant activities of all the isolated compounds (compounds 1–9) were evaluated via hydroxyl radical scavenging, DPPH free radical scavenging, and superoxide anion radical scavenging assays. Compounds 1 and 2 displayed stronger antioxidant capacities than the positive control tert-butylhydroquinone. Furthermore, the antifungal activities of the isolated compounds were evaluated against four phytopathogenic fungi: Sclerotinia ginseng, Rhizoctonia solani, Cylindrocarpon destructans, and Exserohilum turcicum. All the test compounds demonstrated inhibitory effects; notably, compound 4 exhibited the strongest activities against the four selected phytopathogenic fungi, with inhibitory rates ranging from 42.3% to 65.4% at 0.2 mg/mL.

Exploration on the safe management of multi-hospital transportation in a large public hospital during the pandemic of 2019-nCoV

During the pandemic of 2019-nCoV, large public hospitals are facing great challenges. Multi-hospital development will be the main mode of hospital administrative management in China in the future. West China Hospital of Sichuan University implemented multi-hospital integrated management, in which the branch district established the administrative multi-department collaboration mode. As an important part of the operation of branch district, how to effectively organize transportation of staffs and patients and to prevent and control the pandemic of 2019-nCoV simultaneously between different hospitals have been the key and difficult points, which should be solved urgently in the management of the branch district.

Poly-hydroxylated bile acids and their prognostic roles in Alagille syndrome

Background
The liver manifestations of Alagille syndrome (ALGS) are highly variable, and factors affecting its prognosis are poorly understood. We asked whether the composition of bile acids in ALGS patients with good clinical outcomes differs from that in patients with poor outcomes and whether bile acids could be used as prognostic biomarkers.
Methods
Blood for bile acid profiling was collected from genetically confirmed
JAG1
-associated ALGS patients before one year of age. A good prognosis was defined as survival with native liver and total bilirubin (TB) < 85.5 μmol/L, while a poor prognosis was defined as either liver transplantation, death from liver failure, or TB ≥ 85.5 μmol/L at the last follow-up.
Results
We found that the concentrations of two poly-hydroxylated bile acids, tauro‐2β,3α,7α,12α-tetrahydroxylated bile acid (THBA) and glyco-hyocholic acid (GHCA), were significantly increased in patients with good prognosis compared to those with poor prognosis [area under curve (AUC) = 0.836 and 0.782, respectively] in the discovery cohort. The same trend was also observed in the molar ratios of GHCA to glyco- chenodeoxycholic acid (GCDCA) and tetrahydroxylated bile acid (THCA) to tauro-chenodeoxycholic acid (TCDCA) (both AUC = 0.836). A validation cohort confirmed these findings. Notably, tauro‐2β,3α,7α,12α-THBA achieved the highest prediction accuracy of 88.00% (92.31% sensitivity and 83.33% specificity); GHCA at > 607.69 nmol/L was associated with native liver survival [hazard ratio: 13.03, 95% confidence interval (CI): (2.662–63.753),

Conclusions
We identified two poly-hydroxylated bile acids as liver prognostic biomarkers of ALGS patients. Enhanced hydroxylation of bile acids may result in better clinical outcomes.
