Deregulate, put an end to your \"crony capitalism,\" and make your business practices \"transparent\" - transparent to Wall Street investors, that is. This, of course, is the menu of medicines known to all as \"globalism.\" And it has been evident for many months that East Asians, having tasted the prescription, are loath to swallow it. After Gore's visit to Malaysia, Clinton kept his scheduled appointments in Seoul and Tokyo; in the latter city, he presided over a U.S.-style town meeting where he delivered the expected pleas. But he merely heard a calmer version of the message that greeted Gore: Americans may think the globalization process is inevitable, but that logic is simply not taking hold at the far end of the Pacific.
