The complete genome sequences of 22 parrot species (Psittaciformes, Aves) version 1; peer review: 3 approved with reservations
The parrots (Psittaciformes, Aves) are a group of colorful, intelligent, long-lived birds with a wide range of body sizes and plumage colors and patterns.  One third of the parrot species is threatened with extinction due to habitat loss and the pet trade, a larger percentage than any other comparable bird order.  We present the complete genome sequences of 22 species of parrots from 14 genera and 3 families: Anodorhynchus hyacinthinus, Ara ararauna, Ara chloropterus, Ara glaucogularis, Ara militaris, Aratinga solstitialis, Aratinga weddellii, Cacatua leadbeateri, Eclectus roratus, Eupsittula pertinax, Guaruba guarouba, Lorius garrulus, Myiopsitta monachus, Nymphicus hollandicus, Pionus senilis, Psittacus erithacus, Psittacus timneh, Psitteuteles goldiei, Pyrrhura frontalis, Pyrrhura griseipectus, Pyrrhura molinae, Pyrrhura perlata.  Genomic data can be used to better understand species identity, hybridization, genetic diversity, and identification of animal products possibly derived from endangered species.
THE IMPACT OF PRINT MEDIA ON THE THIN IDEAL OF COLLEGIATE FEMALE ATHLETES
There has been substantial research regarding the media's impact on the body image of women in general; however, in contrast, there is limited research which may further explain how this particular relationship may be unique for collegiate female athletes. Therefore, the impact of sports magazines and thin ideal images on the body image of female collegiate athletes (N=86) and the role of race in the development of body image dissatisfaction was examined using the Body-Esteem Scale for Adolescents and Adults and a self-report on the frequency of exposure to various genres of magazines. Findings suggested that African Americans scored higher on all three sub-scales, indicative of an overall more favorable account of body-esteem than other racial groups. An independent samples t test was conducted to assess the differences between the means of racial groups with regard to thin ideal magazine exposure and suggested significant differences t(79) = -2.441, p = .017 where White female athletes (M = 13.71, SD = 3.61) have higher exposure to magazines than non-White female athletes (M = 11.59, SD = 3.08).
NCAADIVISION I HEAD SOFTBALL COACHES' CONFIDENCE, OPENNESS AND STIGMA TOLERANCE TOWARD SPORT PSYCHOLOGY CONSULTANTS
The purpose of this study was to look specifically at NCAA Division I head softball coaches and determine if their perceptions of sport psychology consultants (SPC), their intentions to use sport psychology, their confidence in sport psychology, and their openness and stigma tolerance to using an SPC play a role in the utilization of an SPC or any sport psychology principles. The dependent variables were measured through the use of the Sport Psychology Attitudes -- Revised Coaches instrument developed by Zakrajsek and Zizzi (2007). Previous literature has reported that females report being more open, have more confidence, and have less stigma tolerance toward the use of SPC. Descriptives of the data show that coaches feel mental skills are important; in fact coaches in this study indicated that approximately 75% of their sport is mental. The results are discussed in relationship to the limited previous studies that have looked at coaches attitudes about sport psychology.
Motor skills and social skills in elementary school children
The purpose of this study is to determine if there is a relationship between a child's self-perceived social skills and actual selected locomotor and object control skill performance. The Test of Gross Motor Development (TGMD) and the Social Skills Rating System ( SSRS): Student Form were administered to 123 elementary students in grades 3–5. Total raw scores as well as subscores for locomotor skills and object control skill were calculated. The SSRS: Student Form provided a total score and subscores for cooperation, assertion, self-control and empathy. A significant positive correlation was found between motor skills and social skills for all third graders (r = .429), third grade boys (r = .616), and third grade girls (.399). Significant correlations between locomotor skills and social skills were found for all boys (r = .338), all third graders (r = .393), and all third grade boys (r = .505). Significant correlations between object control skills and social skills were found for all third graders (r = .309) and third grade girls (r = .389). Significant correlations were found between cooperation and motor skills for all boys (r = .371), all third graders (r = .361), and all third grade boys (r = .624). Significant correlations were found between assertion and motor skills for all subjects (r = .209), all boys (r = .538), all third graders ( r = .419), and third grade boys. Significant correlations between empathy and motor skills were found for all third graders (r = .419), third grade boys (r = .461) and third grade girls (r = .450). There were no significant correlations between self-control and motor skills. The differences in correlations for boys and girls could be attributed to the typical play of boys which may differ from the games played by girls. For third graders, activities involving motor skills may be a more important source of socialization for boys than for girls. As students mature they may engage in less physical play for socialization. Fourth and fifth graders may have found other means to hone social skills and have friendships that do not involve physical play.

Transcription factor binding site prediction with multivariate gene expression data
Multi-sample microarray experiments have become a standard experimental method for studying biological systems. A frequent goal in such studies is to unravel the regulatory relationships between genes. During the last few years, regression models have been proposed for the de novo discovery of cis-acting regulatory sequences using gene expression data. However, when applied to multi-sample experiments, existing regression based methods model each individual sample separately. To better capture the dynamic relationships in multi-sample microarray experiments, we propose a flexible method for the joint modeling of promoter sequence and multivariate expression data. ¶ In higher order eukaryotic genomes expression regulation usually involves combinatorial interaction between several transcription factors. Experiments have shown that spacing between transcription factor binding sites can significantly affect their strength in activating gene expression. We propose an adaptive model building procedure to capture such spacing dependent cis-acting regulatory modules. ¶ We apply our methods to the analysis of microarray time-course experiments in yeast and in Arabidopsis. These experiments exhibit very different dynamic temporal relationships. For both data sets, we have found all of the well-known cis-acting regulatory elements in the related context, as well as being able to predict novel elements.
