Formulas and calculations for drilling operations
\"Presented in an easy-to-use format, this second edition of Formulas and Calculations for Drilling Operations is a quick reference for day-to-day work out on the rig; It also serves as a handy study guide for drilling and well control certification courses; Virtually all the mathematics required on a drilling rig is here in one convenient source, including formulas for pressure gradient, specific gravity, pump, output, annular velocity, buoyancy factor, and many other topics; Whether open on your desk, on the hood of your truck at the well, or on an offshore platform, this is the only book available that covers the gamut of the formulas and calculations for petroleum engineers that have been compiled over decades; Some of these formulas and calculations have been used for decades, while others are meant to help guide the engineer through some of the more recent breakthroughs in the industry's technology, such as hydraulic fracturing and enhanced oil recovery. There is no other source for these useful formulas and calculations that is this thorough; An instant classic when the first edition was published, the much-improved revision is even better, offering new information not available in the first edition, making it as up-to-date as possible in book form; Truly a state-of-the-art masterpiece for the oil and gas industry, if there is only one book you buy to help you do your job, this is it!\"-- Provided by publisher.
Enhanced Recovery Methods for Heavy Oil and Tar Sands
2009,2013
Recent price increases continue to stress the need for alternative resources. With conventional production steadily declining, advances in enhanced recovery will be required so that more drillers can extend their oil production and make reserves last longer. Thanks to significant drilling technology breakthroughs, wells are digging deeper for more unconventional resources, in particular heavy oil. A practical guide on heavy oil-related recovery methods is essential for drillers and producers alike. To feed this demand, James Speight, a well-respected professor and author, provides a must-read for drillers, domestic and abroad that are involved in production enhancement. Covering the spectrum, the author explains the current methods of recovery for heavy oil and tar sand bitumen technology, broken down by thermal and non-thermal methods. He provides complete coverage on important topics such as geology and origin of heavy oil, heavy oil properties, introductory methods on primary, secondary and tertiary method recovery and how-to upgrade and process heavy oil. Rounded out with a glossary of key terminology, any engineer and oil personnel that work with heavy oil and tar sand bitumen will greatly benefit from this much-needed text.
Handbook of Natural Gas Analysis
This book is a comprehensive guide that includes information on the origin and analysis of natural gas, the standard test methods, and procedures that help with the predictability of gas composition and behavior during gas cleaning operations and use. The author-a noted expert on the topic-also explores the properties and behavior of the various components of natural gas and gas condensate. All chapters are written as stand-alone chapters and they cover a wealth of topics including history and uses; origin and production; composition and properties; recovery, storage, and transportation; properties and analysis of gas stream and gas condensate. The text is designed to help with the identification of quality criteria appropriate analysis and testing that fall under the umbrella of ASTM International. ASTM is an organization that is recognized globally across borders, disciplines and industries and works to improve performance in manufacturing and materials and products.
Handbook of Gasification Technology - Science, Processes, and Applications

2020
Gasification is one of the most important advancements that has ever occurred in energy production. Using this technology, for example, coal can be gasified into a product that has roughly half the carbon footprint of coal. On a large scale, gasification could be considered a revolutionary development, not only prolonging the life of carbon-based fuels, but making them \"greener\" and cleaner. As long as much of the world still depends on fossil fuels, gasification will be an environmentally friendlier choice for energy production. But gasification is not just used for fossil fuels. Waste products that would normally be dumped into landfills or otherwise disposed of can be converted into energy through the process of gasification. The same is true of biofeedstocks and other types of feedstocks, thus making another argument for the widespread use of gasification.

2020
As a follow-up to the Handbook of Gasification Technology, also from Wiley-Scrivener, this book goes into more depth on how the products from this important technology can reduce our global carbon footprint and lead the United States, and other countries, toward energy independence. The environmental benefits are very high, and, along with carbon capture and renewable fuels, synthesis gas (or syngas) is a huge step toward environmental sustainability. Synthesis gas is one of the most important advancements that has ever occurred in energy production. Using this technology, for example, coal, biomass, waste products, or a combination of two or more of these can be gasified into a product that has roughly half the carbon footprint of coal alone. Used on a massive scale, just think of the potential for reducing carbon emissions! This book covers all aspects of the technology, from the chemistry, processes, and production, to the products, feedstocks, and even safety in the plant.
Coal-Fired Power Generation Handbook (2nd Edition)

Electrical & Power Engineering

Environment & Environmental Engineering
2021
Coal accounts for approximately one quarter of world energy consumption and of the coal produced worldwide approximately 65% is shipped to electricity producers and 33% to industrial consumers, with most of the remainder going to consumers in the residential and commercial sectors. The total share of total world energy consumption by coal is expected to increase to almost 30% in 2035. This book describes the challenges and steps by which electricity is produced from coal and deals with the challenges for removing the environmental objections to the use of coal in future power plants. New technologies are described that could virtually eliminate the sulfur, nitrogen, and mercury pollutants that are released when coal is burned for electricity generation. In addition, technologies for the capture greenhouse gases emitted from coal-fired power plants are described and the means of preventing such emissions from contributing to global warming concerns.
