Education and city in the English-language small-format texts: axiological approach
The present research deals with the study of the linguoaxiological plan of small-format texts in the English-language educational discourse. The empirical basis for the analysis included one hundred presentation texts posted on the websites of British urban schools. The study hypothesis is that small-format presentation texts fully reflect the value paradigm formed by contemporary British society concerning secondary education in urban infrastructure. At that, values are interpreted as axiological dominants, verbalized through a system of linguistic markers. The novelty of the approach to the analysis of the linguocultural plan of small-format texts is due to its integrated nature, involving a progressive shift from the level of evaluative linguistic resources to the identification of evaluative micro- and macroconcepts, followed by the subsequent systematization of the obtained data at the level of the relevant axiological dominants associated in the minds of society with the education sector in the context of the urban environment. According to the analysis, the absolute axiological dominant of contemporary education is the student’s “Success” interpreted in a broad sense as academic performance, as well as the ability to apply in later life the skills formed in the course of study. The results obtained can be used for further development of linguoaxiological problematics in other discursive areas.
Autologous dendritic cells and activated cytotoxic T-cells as combination therapy for breast cancer
Breast cancer is the most common oncological pathology in women worldwide. Techniques for improving the clinical parameters of patients undergoing combination therapy for breast cancer are currently under development. A type of treatment employing dendritic cells (DCs) and cytotoxic DC-induced antigen-specific T lymphocytes efficiently eliminates residual cancer cells that are the key cause of tumor recurrence and metastasis. In the present study, DCs and activated lymphocytes (treated with IL-12 and IL-18) were isolated from the peripheral blood of patients with breast cancer, using a lysate of tumor tissue as antigen. The patients received the cells as part of adjuvant or neoadjuvant regimens (stage IV disease or progression). Evaluation of immunity was performed at 3 and 6 months after terminating immunotherapy. Evaluation of the disease-free period was performed for 3 years after surgery. The use of antigen-loaded autologous DCs combined with mononuclear cells with increased cytotoxic activity following Th1 polarization reduced the populations of immunosuppressive cells. The results of the present study demonstrated that the investigated cellular immunotherapy for breast cancer is safe, reduces the risk of relapse and metastasis, and improves immunity by reducing the number of regulatory T cells. Therefore, this therapeutic strategy may represent a novel approach to combating distant metastases of breast cancer.
Gamification in the formation of digital skills of future teachers
Global digitalization requires changes in all spheres of human life, including education. Modern trends lead to the introduction of various innovative technologies into the educational process, including gamification, which provokes changes in approaches in order to train a new type of teacher. The stability of society and its future development largely depend on the quality of its preparation. In the context of the general digitalization of education, a future teacher must have certain digital skills that underlie digital literacy for successful professional activity. The purpose of this study is to describe an effective experience in the formation of digital skills by the classification of three groups and three levels when using the elements of gamification in teaching future teachers. In the work, general scientific methods were used: analysis of theoretical sources, collection of information, comparison, generalization, questionnaires, and the study of the products of educational activities of students. The study confirmed the effectiveness of the identified conditions for the successful formation of three groups of digital skills among students of educational institutions of higher and secondary vocational education, which showed an increase in their academic performance in the process of studying the disciplines under consideration and the level of their digital literacy.
