Ronchamp: Le Corbusier's chapel and the crisis of rationalism. (reprint of article from the March 1956 issue of Architectural Review)
1992
Le Corbusier's Ronchamp, France, chapel is possibly modern architecture's most plastic building. Its walls and roof splay and curve in several directions, but the distinction between them is maintained by the use of different materials. Hand-thrown, whitewashed walls give the structure an ethereal quality. Its roof is made of natural concrete.
