Extraction camouflage treatment of a skeletal Class III malocclusion with severe anterior crowding by miniscrews and driftodontics in the mandibular dentition

An 18-year-old Chinese woman presented with chief complaints of crowded teeth and mild mandibular prognathism. Clinical and imaging examinations revealed a concave profile, a protruded chin, increased lower anterior facial height mild, skeletal Class III and Angle’s Class III malocclusion, with anterior crossbites, and crowded teeth. Extraction camouflaged therapy combined with miniscrews skeletal anchorage was employed to relieve crowding and retract the mandibular anterior teeth. The total active treatment time was 31 months. After treatment, functional occlusion and smile esthetics were significantly improved.

Performance Enhancement of Hole Transport Layer-Free Carbon-Based CsPbIBr2 Solar Cells through the Application of Perovskite Quantum Dots

CsPbIBr2, with its suitable bandgap, shows great potential as the top cell in tandem solar cells. Nonetheless, its further development is hindered by a high defect density, severe carrier recombination, and poor stability. In this study, CsPbI1.5Br1.5 quantum dots were utilized as an additive in the ethyl acetate anti-solvent, while a layer of CsPbBr3 QDs was introduced between the ETL and the CsPbIBr2 light-harvester film. The combined effect of these two QDs enhanced the nucleation, crystallization, and growth of CsPbIBr2 perovskite, yielding high-quality films characterized by an enlarged crystal size, reduced grain boundaries, and smooth surfaces. And a wider absorption range and better energy band alignment were achieved owing to the nano-size effect of QDs. These improvements led to a decreased defect density and the suppression of non-radiative recombination. Additionally, the presence of long-chain organic molecules in the QD solution promoted the formation of a hydrophobic surface, significantly enhancing the long-term stability of CsPbIBr2 PSCs. Consequently, the devices achieved a PCE of 9.20% and maintained an initial efficiency of 85% after 60 days of storage in air. Thus, this strategy proves to be an effective approach for the preparation of efficient and stable CsPbIBr2 PSCs.

Orthodontic camouflage treatment for a patient with bilateral cleft lip and palate, bilateral crossbite, and microdontic maxillary lateral incisors

Cleft lip and palate is a congenital craniofacial anomaly that affects the lip and oral cavity. The management and orthodontic treatment of this anomaly is important but challenging. This article reports the successful treatment of a patient with bilateral cleft lip and palate, Class III malocclusion, bilateral crossbite, crowding and microdontic maxillary lateral incisors. One mandible incisor was extracted, and three miniscrew anchorages were utilized to distalize the maxillary left dental arch and retract the mandibular arch. After treatment, ideal occlusion and a better profile were established, and long-term stability was confirmed by a 4-year follow-up. This article represents a successful attempt of orthodontic camouflage treatment of severe dentofacial discrepancy, as an important part of the series treatment of cleft lip and palate, to provide some insight into the clinical field.

Potential predictive and therapeutic applications of small extracellular vesicles-derived circPARD3B in osteoarthritis

Background: Heterogeneous phenotypes that display distinct common characteristics of osteoarthritis (OA) are not well defined and will be helpful in identifying more customized therapeutic options for OA. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) have attracted more and more attention due to their role in the progression of OA. Investigating the role of circRNAs in the pathogenesis of OA will contribute to the phenotyping of OA and to individualized treatment. Methods: Small extracellular vesicles (sEV) were isolated from serum samples from patients with OA of different stages and sEV-derived circPARD3B was determined using RT-qPCR analysis. CircPARD3B expression in a stimulated coculture that included OA fibroblast-like synoviocytes (OA-FLS) as well as human dermal microvascular endothelial cells (HDMECs), plus the effects of circPARD3B on the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) long with angiogenic activity, were evaluated in vitro . Based on bioinformatics analysis and luciferase reporter assay (LRA), MiR-326 and sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) were found to be interactive partners of circPARD3B. Mesenchymal stem cells (SMSCs) overexpressing circPARD3B were constructed and SMSCs-derived sEV with overexpressed circPARD3B (OE-circPARD3B-SMSCs-sEV) were obtained to explore the effect of the intervention of circPARD3B combined with SMSCs-sEV-based therapy in vitro and in a OA model induced by collagenase in vivo . Results: Serum sEV-linked circPARD3B was indentified to be significantly decreased in the inflammatory phenotype of OA. Overexpression of circPARD3B was found to inhibit the expression of VEGF, as well as the angiogenesis induced by VEGF in a IL-1β stimulated the co-culture of OA-FLS as well as HDMECs. CircPARD3B is directly bound to miR-326. SIRT1 was considered a novel miR-326 target gene. OE-circPARD3B-SMSCs-sEV significantly reduced VEGF expression in coculture of OA-FLS and HDMECs. Injection of OE-circPARD3B-SMSCs-sEV could also reduce synovial VEGF; additionally, it could further ameliorate OA in the mouse model of OA in vivo . Conclusion: Serum sEV circPARD3B is a potential biomarker that enables the identification of the inflammatory phenotype of patients with OA. Correspondingly, intracellular transfer of circPARD3B through OE-circPARD3B-SMSCs-sEV could postpone disease progression through a functional module regulated angiogenesis of circPARD3B-miR-326-SIRT1, providing a novel therapeutic strategy for OA.

Bone diseases such as osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, and bone tumor present a severe public health problem. Osteogenic differentiation is a complex process associated with the differentiation of different cells, which could regulate transcription factors, cytokines, many signaling pathways, noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs), and epigenetic modulation. DNA methylation is a kind of stable epigenetic alterations in CpG islands without DNA sequence changes and is involved in cancer and other diseases, including bone development and homeostasis. ncRNAs can perform their crucial biological functions at the RNA level, and many findings have demonstrated essential functions of ncRNAs in osteogenic differentiation. In this review, we highlight current researches in DNA methylation of two relevant ncRNAs, including microRNAs and long noncoding RNAs, in the initiation and progression of osteogenesis and bone diseases.

Knowledge of orthodontic tooth movement through the maxillary sinus: a systematic review

Background
To investigate the feasibility, safety and stability of current interventions for moving teeth through the maxillary sinus (MTTMS) by performing a systematic review of the literature.
Methods
The electronic databases PubMed, Embase, CENTRAL, Web of Science, CBM, CNKI and SIGLE were searched without a language restriction. The primary outcomes were parameters related to orthodontic treatment, including orthodontic protocols, magnitude of forces, type of tooth movement, duration and rate of tooth movement, and remolding of alveolar bone and the maxillary sinus floor. The secondary outcomes were safety and stability, including root resorption, perforation of the sinus floor, loss of pulp vitality and periodontal health and relapse.
Results
Nine case reports with 25 teeth were included and systematically analyzed. Fifty to two hundred g of force was applied to move teeth through the maxillary sinus. Bodily movement was accomplished, but initial tipping was observed in 7 cases. The rate was 0.6–0.7 mm/month for molar intrusion and 0.16–1.17 and 0.05–0.16 mm/month for mesial-distal movement of premolars and molars, respectively. Bone formation and remolding of the sinus floor occurred in 7 cases. Root resorption within 6 to 30 months was observed in 3 cases, while no cases of perforation of the sinus floor, loss of pulp vitality, periodontal health impairment or relapse were reported.
Conclusions
At the present stage, no evidence-based protocol could be recommended to guide MTTMS. The empirical application of constant and light to moderate forces (by TAD, segment and multibrackets) to slowly move teeth through or into the maxillary sinus in adults appears to be practical and secure. Bodily movement was accomplished, but teeth appear to be easily tipped initially, potentially resulting in root resorption. However, this conclusion should be interpreted with caution as the currently available evidence is based on only a few case reports or case series and longitudinal or controlled studies are lacking in this area.

The impact of surgery-first approach on the oral health-related quality of life: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Background
The oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) is affected by dentofacial deformity. Patients with dentofacial deformity are normally treated with orthognathic surgery, including conventional three-stage method (CTM) and surgery first approach (SFA). The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to compare the impact of SFA with CTM on the OHRQoL of patients with severe dentofacial deformity.
Methods
Five English databases, three Chinese databases, and six grey literature databases were searched (January 2000 to July 2018). Randomized controlled trials, controlled clinical trials, and cohort studies assessing the OHRQoL of patients who underwent SFA or CTM were included. After selecting studies, extracting data, and assessing risk-of-bias according to the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions and the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale, meta-analysis was performed to elucidate the effects of SFA on the changes of OHRQoL of patients with dentofacial deformity at each stage and made a comparison with CTM.
Results
There were 4 studies with 122 participants were selected for the final analysis. Three among these studies were included in meta-analysis, 2 of which were included in each forest plot. All the included studies were graded as moderate value of evidence according to GRADE quality analysis. Over the period of 2-year follow-up after bonding, the OHRQoL of the patients in SFA group showed an improving trend and was better than those in CTM group generally. = 0.12) and Orthognathic Quality of Life Questionnaire (OQLQ) (− 5.59,

= 0.01) were smaller in SFA group than CTM group.
Conclusions
Clinical evidence indicates that SFA can contribute to the better OHRQoL in patients with dentofacial deformity immediately and persistently.

Treatment of the mandibular shift in an adult woman and the diagnostic value of joint space index: a case report

Background
Mandibular deviations are common clinical complaints. The orthodontic or orthognathic treatment of mandibular deviations is tricky because a comprehensive diagnosis, especially a functional one, is difficult to make. A inaccurate diagnosis may lead to a compromised and unstable treatment outcome.
Case presentation
This article describes the diagnosis and treatment of a woman with a mandibular deviation and facial skeletal asymmetry. By eliminating the disharmony of the arch form with elastics and bite turbos, her esthetic and functional outcomes improved. Cone-beam CT (CBCT) and Joint Space Index (JSI) analyses served as the diagnostic approaches and outcome evaluation methods before and after treatment.
Conclusions
A condyle position displacement could be an indication of functional deviation. JSI analysis is a quantitative and convenient choice to compare condyle relative positions.
