Environmental impact
2020
Management science focuses on organisational culture. This reflection also applies to the broadly understood cultural context, as organisations operate in specific places and at specific times. As entrepreneurs enter foreign markets, there is a need to deepen their knowledge of cultural aspects, which results in the possibility to generate practical guidelines for shaping organisational culture in a different cultural environment. The article assumes that out of four elements conditioning organisational culture—type of environment, type of organisation, features of organisation and features of participants—two of them, type of environment and features of its participants, are the basic ways to organisational culture, by means of which the organisational culture is permeated by artefacts, values and basic assumptions, characteristic of national cultures. This permeation is exemplified by organisations from the same industry, having the same top management but functioning in different cultural environments. The study was conducted with the use of the multiple, exploratory and explanatory case study method. It consisted of three stages: The first stage included literature analyses (analyses of secondary data and legacy data), which aimed to determine the features of two cultures—Polish and Ukrainian. At the second stage, the authors conducted pilot studies among the representatives of the Polish and Ukrainian national culture. At the third stage, the organisational cultures of companies operating in the environment of the Polish and Ukrainian culture were surveyed. The research sample included 590 people. The authors based their studies on the Milton Rokeach Values Scale and an author’s tool, in which Hofstede’s concept of cultural dimensions. The statistical analysis involved the nonparametric Mann–Whitney U test.

Do Values Relate to Personality Traits and if so, in What Way? – Analysis of Relationships
2021
The research presents empirical data concerning the relations between personal traits and value system. The study focuses on empathy, agreeableness, directiveness, Machiavellism as personality traits. Theoretical assumptions and empirical findings are analyzed and interpreted in the context of cognitive framework, including the idea of regulative function self-concept. A content compatibility hypothesis between personality traits and one's system of value was accepted as preliminary assumption for this research: empathy and agreeableness positively correlate with allocentric values, whereas directiveness and Machiavellism positively correlate with idiocentric values. The study group consisted of 325 students.
The Empathic Understanding of Others Questionnaire (Węgliński), Personality Inventory NEO-FFI (Costa and McCrae) Directiveness Scale (Ray) and Mach V Scale (Christie and Geis) were used.
The value system of empathic and agreeable people reveals an allocentric orientation (tendency to abandon one's own perspective), while the value system of directive and Machiavellian people reveals an idiocentric orientation (focused on oneself).
The data analysis revealed that subjects tend to organize their self-knowledge in such a way that there is a content consistency between the information included in the appropriate schemas of personality traits and value preference.

Comparative analysis
2021
The publication deals with the description of selected aspect of young people's mentality, ie their systems of values. The research was conducted four times: in 2003 (325 respondents), in 2008 (379 respondents), in 2013 (368 respondents), and in 2018 (371 respondents) on students of the Bialystok universities. An attempt was made to establish if in the period of the fifteen years between the first survey and the last surveys one could observe changes in the mentality in the desired direction - from the point of view of political transformations - from \"collectivism\" to \"individualism\". The way of understanding values was adopted from Rokeach's theory.
The Rokeach Value Survey was used to study the system of values.
The comparative analysis of the value preferences indices across all surveys (survey by survey) has not confirmed proposed hypothesis. It has been shown that the value system has changed towards individualism over fifteen years (when comparing surveys from year 2003 and 2018). Contradictory to the expectations, the most individualistic system of values was presented in survey group in 2008, and not in 2018.
There was no increase in rates of preference for individualistic values \"from study to study\". The trajectories of changes in value systems turned out to be much more complex (and thus more difficult to describe).

Masculinity vs Femininity in Polish and Ukrainian Organisational Cultures
2016
One of the five cultural dimensions suggested by G. Hofstede, the dimension of masculinity and femininity, is very controversial. Defining cultures as feminine and masculine results in two issues. In the first, the content one, masculine cultures are characterised by “hard”, instrumental values, whereas feminine cultures by “soft” values whose core is the quality of interpersonal relations. In feminine cultures gender differences disappear, however, with the increase in the masculinisation of culture, the differences in the range of gender values grow. The article is of cognitive character. It shows the results of the research concerning the values and basic objectives in the range of dimensions of masculinity and femininity carried out in Polish and Ukrainian organizations.

Feminism – difficult conversation
2014
Feminism is a conflict between the female identity and female differences. Yet, all feminist thoughts aim at protecting specific subjects - women. In its current, rather chaotic form it allows to discover, understand and learn something from women who live and work in different countries. Feminism is not monolithic. It comprises a large array of attitudes, interests and ideas. These in turn, are differently represented across countries. Women took and still take various paths in combating inequality, therefore perhaps it would be wise to refer to ‘feminisms’ instead of a singular form ‘feminism’. My goal is to present a concise summary of a particular set of meanings of this term, ones that are relatable in the broadest sense.

Conditions for Attitudes towards Native Culture, Religion and Church and Religiously Motivated Ethics
2020
Purpose: This article aims to diagnose the worldview and attitudes towards native culture, religion, and the Church as well as religiously motivated ethics. Design/Methodology/Approach: The research involved 368 young Poles entering the labour market. It was assumed that these attitudes depend on a degree of approval of the traditional, modern, and postmodern worldview. The authors used the Borowiak Questionnaire \"How do you view yourself and the world around you?\" and a tool for attitude diagnosis. Findings: The results of the research confirmed the construed hypothesis. Positive attitudes towards the issue under elaboration were associated with higher indicators of traditionalism and lower indicators of modernism (apart from the attitude towards native culture) and postmodernism. Negative attitudes, in turn, were associated with lower indicators of traditionalism and higher indicators of modernism (except for the attitude towards native culture) and postmodernism. Practical Implications: The diagnosis of the worldview and attitudes of society is of great practical importance. People's attitude to political change is an important factor influencing its course and effectiveness. Originality/Value: The worldview is a psychological construct that plays a key role in human functioning. In case of a mature individual it is characterised by systematisation (structuring of experiences) and coherence (elimination of contradictions between elements). It is also defined by universalism, which means that it refers to many areas of life. This research considered attitudes towards national culture and traditions, the role of religion and the Church in the public life of society, and religiously motivated ethics.

More or Less Pro-Liberal? A Comparative Analysis of the Attitudes of Young People Entering the Labour Market
2020
Purpose: This publication compares the attitudes of young Poles entering the labour market with regard to the economic system and social issues. The attitudes were diagnosed on the basis of a set of views reflecting the pro-liberal or non-liberal stance. Attempts were made to determine whether the changing attitudes are in line with the direction that was postulated - from the point of view of political transformation in Poland \"towards liberalism\". Design/Methodology/Approach: The research was carried out with a multi-criteria method using critical literature analysis, logical construct method as well as statistical research. The empirical research was conducted four times, in 2003 (325 persons), in 2008 (379 persons), in 2013 (368 persons) and in 2018 (371 persons). Findings: The assumption that each next generation will accept, to a greater extent, the principles of the free market economy and will show understanding towards the limitation of the welfare and intervening function of the state proved false. Pro-liberal attitudes did not intensify \"from survey to survey\" and more complex patterns were observed. Their indicators were in many cases relatively higher in 2008 and 2018 and lower in 2003 and 2013. Practical Implications: The analysis of society 's attitudes is of great practical importance. The attitude of people to political changes is an important factor affecting their course and effectiveness. Originality/Value: In the four-stage studies described above, attitudes towards free competition and the independence of the private sector from the state and foreign capital investment were considered. The researchers as well elaborated on the views of the respondents towards the consequences of the introduction of market relations, free market in the sphere of employment, unemployment, differentiation of society in the economic dimension and limitations imposed by the state on welfare system.
