Christian doctrines in Islamic theology
By the tenth century, Islamic scholars were making use of Christian doctrines as examples of misguided thinking that showed the correctness of Islam. This volume explores key writings in this tradition, including those of al-Nashi' al-Akbar, al-Maturidi, al-Baqillani and 'Abd al-Jabbar.
Christian Doctrines in Islamic Theology
Through excerpts from works of four theologians, this book shows how tenth century Muslims employed Christian doctrines to confirm the correctness of their own theology, and how Christianity had stopped attracting serious attention from Muslims as a rival to Islam.

Muslim-Christian polemic during the Crusades : the letter from the people of Cyprus and Ibn Abī Ṭālib al-Dimashqī's response
This edition and English translation of the fourteenth century correspondence between Cypriot Christians and the Muslim Ibn Abī Ṭālib al-Dimashqī is a significant example of later medieval Christian-Muslim polemic that affords an invaluable insight into the development of Muslim interfaith attitudes.
The character of Christian-Muslim encounter : essays in honour of David Thomas
This book is a Festschrift in honour of David Thomas (Professor of Christianity and Islam, and Nadir Dinshaw Professor of Inter Religious Relations, at the University of Birmingham, UK). The Editors have put together a collection of over 30 contributions from colleagues of Professor Thomas that commences with a biographical sketch and representative tribute provided by a former doctoral student, and comprises a series of wide-ranging academic papers arranged to broadly reflect three dimensions of David Thomas's academic and professional work - studies in and of Islam; Christian-Muslim relations; the Church and interreligious engagement. These are set in the context of a focused theme - the character of Christian-Muslim encounters - and cast within a broad chronological framework.
Christians at the heart of Islamic rule : church life and scholarship in 'Abbasid Iraq
This volume on Christian life and thought in Baghdad under 'Abbasid rule illustrates the vigour of Christianity, and shows that relations between Christians and Muslims, although at times strained, could often be beneficial to followers of both faiths.
Muslim-Christian polemic during the Crusades : the letter from the people of Cyprus and Ibn Abī Ṭālib al-Dimashqī's response
\"This volume comprises an edition and English translation of the response in Arabic made by the fourteenth century scholar Ibn Abi Talib al-Dimashqi to a letter sent to him by anonymous Christians from Cyprus. The Christian letter was also sent to al-Dimashqi's contemporary Ibn Taymiyya, and this response is thus a parallel to Ibn Taymiyya's al-Jawab al-sahih.\" \"In their letter the Christians subtly suggest that the Qur'an supports Christian doctrines. Al-Dimashqi replies with a comprehensive series of elaborate and wide-ranging arguments that incorporate not only themes familiar from earlier polemical works but also his own original points. His response is thus an important source of information about the development of Muslim interfaith attitudes, and a significant example of polemic in the later medieval period. The edition presents the two parts of this correspondence in parallel Arabic and English versions, together with an extensive introduction, textual notes and commentary.\"--Jacket.
