Precessing and periodic motions around a black-bounce/traversable wormhole
2020
We investigate precessing and periodic geodesic motions of timelike particles around a black-bounce/traversable wormhole. After obtaining its semi-classic and relativistic periastron advance, we find a preliminary bound on the scale length of such a spactime based on the detected precession of the star S2 around the Galactic Center. We also study periodic orbits around it and find that the variation of the scale length can change the taxonomy of the periodic orbits and cause the transition from a periodic orbit to a quasi-periodic one and vice versa.

Color-tunable single-fluorophore supramolecular system with assembly-encoded emission
2020
Regulating the fluorescent properties of organic small molecules in a controlled and dynamic manner has been a fundamental research goal. Although several strategies have been exploited, realizing multi-color molecular emission from a single fluorophore remains challenging. Herein, we demonstrate an emissive system by combining pyrene fluorophore and acylhydrazone units, which can generate multi-color switchable fluorescent emissions at different assembled states. Two kinds of supramolecular tools, amphiphilic self-assembly and γ-cyclodextrin mediated host-guest recognition, are used to manipulate the intermolecular aromatic stacking distances, resulting in the tunable fluorescent emission ranging from blue to yellow, including a pure white-light emission. Moreover, an external chemical signal, amylase, is introduced to control the assembly states of the system on a time scale, generating a distinct dynamic emission system. The dynamic properties of this multi-color fluorescent system can be also enabled in a hydrogel network, exhibiting a promising potential for intelligent fluorescent materials.
Regulating fluorescent properties of small molecules in a controlled manner has been a fundamental research goal but realizing multi-color emission from a single fluorophore remains challenging. Here the authros demonstrate that combined pyrene fluorophore and acylhydrazone units show multi-color switchable fluorescent at different assembled states.

Mental Health and Psychosocial Problems of Medical Health Workers during the COVID-19 Epidemic in China
2020
Objective: We explored whether medical health workers had more psychosocial problems than nonmedical health workers during the COVID-19 outbreak. Methods: An online survey was run from February 19 to March 6, 2020; a total of 2,182 Chinese subjects participated. Mental health variables were assessed via the Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), the Symptom Check List-revised (SCL-90-R), and the Patient Health Questionnaire-4 (PHQ-4), which included a 2-item anxiety scale and a 2-item depression scale (PHQ-2). Results: Compared with nonmedical health workers (n = 1,255), medical health workers (n = 927) had a higher prevalence of insomnia (38.4 vs. 30.5%, p < 0.01), anxiety (13.0 vs. 8.5%, p < 0.01), depression (12.2 vs. 9.5%; p< 0.04), somatization (1.6 vs. 0.4%; p < 0.01), and obsessive-compulsive symptoms (5.3 vs. 2.2%; p < 0.01). They also had higher total scores of ISI, GAD-2, PHQ-2, and SCL-90-R obsessive-compulsive symptoms (p ≤ 0.01). Among medical health workers, having organic disease was an independent factor for insomnia, anxiety, depression, somatization, and obsessive-compulsive symptoms (p < 0.05 or 0.01). Living in rural areas, being female, and being at risk of contact with COVID-19 patients were the most common risk factors for insomnia, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive symptoms, and depression (p < 0.01 or 0.05). Among nonmedical health workers, having organic disease was a risk factor for insomnia, depression, and obsessive-compulsive symptoms (p < 0.01 or 0.05). Conclusions: During the COVID-19 outbreak, medical health workers had psychosocial problems and risk factors for developing them. They were in need of attention and recovery programs.

Enantioselective access to chiral aliphatic amines and alcohols via Ni-catalyzed hydroalkylations
2021
Chiral aliphatic amine and alcohol derivatives are ubiquitous in pharmaceuticals, pesticides, natural products and fine chemicals, yet difficult to access due to the challenge to differentiate between the spatially and electronically similar alkyl groups. Herein, we report a nickel-catalyzed enantioselective hydroalkylation of acyl enamines and enol esters with alkyl halides to afford enantioenriched α-branched aliphatic acyl amines and esters in good yields with excellent levels of enantioselectivity. The operationally simple protocol provides a straightforward access to chiral secondary alkyl-substituted amine and secondary alkyl-substituted alcohol derivatives from simple starting materials with great functional group tolerance.

Background
Smart home health technologies (SHHTs) have been discussed in the frame of caregiving to enable aging-in-place and independence. A systematic review was conducted in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines to gather the up-to-date knowledge on the benefits and barriers of using SHHTs in the care of older persons from the perspective of older persons and their caregivers.
Methods
Ten electronic databases were reviewed for empirical peer-reviewed literature published from 01.01.2000 to 31.12.2021 in English, German, and French reporting on experimental, qualitative, quantitative, and other empirical study designs were included. Included studies contained user-feedback from older persons over 65 years of age or their caregivers (formal and informal). We used an extraction document to collect relevant data from all included studies and applied narrative synthesis to analyze data related to benefits and barriers of SHHTs.
Results
163 empirical peer-reviewed articles were included, the majority of those published between 2014 and 2021. Five first-order categories of benefits and five of barriers were found with individual sub-themes. SHHTs could be useful in the care context where continuous monitoring is needed. They improve self-management and independent living of older persons. Barriers currently exist with respect to ease of usability, social acceptance, and cost.
Conclusions
SHHTs could be useful in the care context but are not without concerns. Researchers and policy makers can use the information as a starting point to better understand how the roles and outcomes of SHHTs could be improved for the care of older persons, while caregivers of older adults could use our findings to comprehend the scope of SHHTs and to decide when and where such technology could best address their individual family needs. Limitations lie in the possible exclusion of relevant articles published outside the inclusion criteria as well as the fact that due to digital divide, our review represents opinions of those who could and wanted to participate in the included 163 studies.
Trial registration
This review has been registered as PROSPERO CRD42021248543. A protocol was completed in March 2021 with the PRISMA-P guidance. We have extended the review period from 2000 to 2020 since the registration of the protocol to 2000–2021.

Lysozyme is a natural protein with a good bacteriostatic effect, but its poor inhibition of Gram-negative bacteria limits its development potential as a natural preservative. Therefore, the modification of natural lysozyme to expand the antimicrobial spectrum become the focus of lysozyme study. Egg white lysozyme has low cost, rich content in nature, is easy to obtain, strong stability, and high enzyme activity, so it can be applied in the modification of lysozyme. Egg white lysozyme was modified by chemical methods using organic acids. Caffeic acid and p-coumaric acid in organic acids were used as modifiers, and 1-Ethyl-3- (3-dimethylaminopropyl) carbodiimide hydrochloride and N-hydroxy succinimide were used as dehydration condensation agents during modification. A certain degree of modified lysozyme was obtained through appropriate modification conditions. The antibacterial properties and structure of the obtained two organic acid-modified lysozymes were compared with natural enzymes. The results showed that compared with the native enzyme, the activity of modified lysozyme decreased, but the inhibitory effect on Gram-negative bacteria was enhanced. The minimum inhibitory concentrations of caffeic acid-modified enzyme and p-coumaric acid-modified enzyme on Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa were 0.5 mg/mL and 0.75 mg/mL, respectively. However, the antibacterial ability of modified lysozyme to Gram-positive bacteria was lower than that of the natural enzyme. The minimum inhibitory concentration of caffeic acid-modified enzyme and p-coumaric acid-modified enzyme to Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis was 1.25 mg/mL. The peak fitting results of the amide-I band absorption peak in the infrared spectroscopy showed that the content of the secondary structure of the two modified enzymes obtained after modification was different from that of natural enzymes. In the study, two organic acids were used to modify egg white lysozyme, which enhanced the enzyme’s inhibition of Gram-negative bacteria, and analyzed the mechanisms for the change in the enzyme’s antibacterial ability from the perspective of the structural change of the modified enzyme, providing a new idea for lysozyme modification.

Structure of a cyanobacterial photosystem I tetramer revealed by cryo-electron microscopy
2019
Photosystem I (PSI) functions to harvest light energy for conversion into chemical energy. The organisation of PSI is variable depending on the species of organism. Here we report the structure of a tetrameric PSI core isolated from a cyanobacterium,
Anabaena
sp. PCC 7120, analysed by single-particle cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) at 3.3 Å resolution. The PSI tetramer has a C2 symmetry and is organised in a dimer of dimers form. The structure reveals interactions at the dimer-dimer interface and the existence of characteristic pigment orientations and inter-pigment distances within the dimer units that are important for unique excitation energy transfer. In particular, characteristic residues of PsaL are identified to be responsible for the formation of the tetramer. Time-resolved fluorescence analyses showed that the PSI tetramer has an enhanced excitation-energy quenching. These structural and spectroscopic findings provide insights into the physiological significance of the PSI tetramer and evolutionary changes of the PSI organisations.
Photosystem I (PSI) is embedded in thylakoid membranes of photosynthetic organisms, converting light energy into chemical energy, and its oligomeric state varies among different organisms. Here the authors present the 3.3 Å resolution cryo-EM structure of the PSI tetramer from the cyanobacterium
