Adjuvant Nivolumab versus Placebo in Muscle-Invasive Urothelial Carcinoma

In a prospective, randomized trial involving patients with urothelial carcinoma who had undergone radical surgery, adjuvant nivolumab was compared with placebo. The median disease-free survival was 20.8 months with nivolumab and 10.8 months with placebo. Treatment-related adverse events of grade 3 or higher were noted in 17.9% of patients in the nivolumab group.

Adjuvant Nivolumab versus Placebo in Muscle-Invasive Urothelial Carcinoma (N Engl J Med 2021;384:2102-2114). One death that was initially attributed to the category “Other — fatal bowel perforation” should have been attributed to the study drug. In the Results section of the Abstract (page 2102), the final sentence should have read, “Two treatment-related deaths due to pneumonitis and one treatment-related death due to bowel perforation were noted in the nivolumab group,” rather than “Two treatment-related deaths due to pneumonitis were noted in the nivolumab group.” The penultimate paragraph of the Exposure and Safety subsection of Results (page 2109), should have ended with two additional sentences: “There was one treatment-related death due to bowel perforation . . .
