VinDr-CXR: An open dataset of chest X-rays with radiologist’s annotations

Most of the existing chest X-ray datasets include labels from a list of findings without specifying their locations on the radiographs. This limits the development of machine learning algorithms for the detection and localization of chest abnormalities. In this work, we describe a dataset of more than 100,000 chest X-ray scans that were retrospectively collected from two major hospitals in Vietnam. Out of this raw data, we release 18,000 images that were manually annotated by a total of 17 experienced radiologists with 22 local labels of rectangles surrounding abnormalities and 6 global labels of suspected diseases. The released dataset is divided into a training set of 15,000 and a test set of 3,000. Each scan in the training set was independently labeled by 3 radiologists, while each scan in the test set was labeled by the consensus of 5 radiologists. We designed and built a labeling platform for DICOM images to facilitate these annotation procedures. All images are made publicly available in DICOM format along with the labels of both the training set and the test set.

Investigating the relationship between brand experience, brand authenticity, brand equity, and customer satisfaction: Evidence from Vietnam

The purpose of this research is to investigate the relationship between brand experience, brand authenticity, brand equity, and how those factors effect on customer satisfaction. The measurement model and the conceptual model depicting hypothesized relationships were evaluated based on responses from 295 customers using confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling, accordingly. By empirical analysis, the study developed a new model presenting positive significant relationships among brand experience, brand authenticity, and brand equity and customer satisfaction. Especially, it is a valuable contribution to branding subject that brand experience positively affects the authenticity of the global brand. Drawing from the study's findings, managerial implications are discussed. Customers' experience about the global brand can increase the authenticity and equity of the brand in the market as well as understandings of what consumers feel about products/services in order to improve their satisfaction. Besides, this study experimented with both concepts and found a positive significant relationship between brand experience and brand authenticity. The more customers use and feel the products/services, the more authentic values that the brand has.

A compact single layer dual-polarized antenna with wideband operation, high isolation, and high front-to-back ratio for 5G applications

This paper proposed a simple design of dual-polarized antenna with a single layer and compact structure for 5G applications. The proposed antenna performs several advantages of wideband, high isolation, as well as high front-to-back ratio characteristics. Instead of using complicated feeding network or stacked structure, a directed-fed crossed patch antenna is employed. Noted that by locating the feeding locations close to the center, high isolation can be achieved without requiring any complicated feeding scheme. Additionally, four parasitic patches are introduced to not only enhance the operating bandwidth but also improve the front-to-back ratio. The final antenna with compact overall dimensions of 0.46

exhibits wideband operation of 7.5% (4.76–5.13 GHz) and high isolation of better than 23 dB. Besides, despite having compact size, the antenna achieves a broadside gain of about 6.0 dB and the front-to-back ratios of around 15 dB across the operating bandwidth.

This paper presents a circularly polarized (CP) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna with compact size and high-gain features for wireless local area network (WLAN) applications. The proposed approach employs two compact dual-CP antennas and T-junction power dividers to design 2-port MIMO antenna. In comparison with the related works, the proposed antenna is beneficial in terms of CP radiation and overall dimensions with less number of required radiating elements, while achieving comparable performance.

Momilactones A (MA) and B (MB) are the active phytoalexins and allelochemicals in rice. In this study, MA and MB were purified from rice husk of Oryza sativa cv. Koshihikari by column chromatography, and purification was confirmed by high-performance liquid chromatography, thin-layer chromatography, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization-mass spectrometry (LC-ESI-MS), and 1H and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance analyses. By in vitro assays, both MA and MB exerted potent inhibition on α-amylase and α-glucosidase activities. The inhibitory effect of MB on these two key enzymes was greater than that of MA. Both MA and MB exerted greater α-glucosidase suppression as compared to that of the commercial diabetic inhibitor acarbose. Quantities of MA and MB in rice grain were 2.07 ± 0.01 and 1.06 ± 0.01 µg/dry weight (DW), respectively. This study was the first to confirm the presence of MA and MB in refined rice grain and reported the α-amylase and α-glucosidase inhibitory activity of the two compounds. The improved protocol of LC-ESI-MS in this research was simple and effective to detect and isolate MA and MB in rice organs.

DPP-4 inhibition by linagliptin prevents cardiac dysfunction and inflammation by targeting the Nlrp3/ASC inflammasome

We compared the effects of linagliptin (Lina, a DPP4 inhibitor) and GLP-1 receptor activation by exenatide followed by exendin-4 in an infusion pump (EX) on infarct size (IS), post-infarction activation of the inflammasome and remodeling in wild-type (WT) and db/db diabetic mice. Mice underwent 30 min ischemia followed by 24 h reperfusion. IS was assessed by TTC. Additional mice underwent permanent coronary artery occlusion. Echocardiography was performed 2w after infarction. Activation of the inflammasome in the border zone of the infarction was assessed by rt-PCR and ELISA 2w after reperfusion. Further in vitro experiments were done using primary human cardiofibroblasts and cardiomyocytes exposed to simulated ischemia–reoxygenation. Lina and EX limited IS in both the WT and the db/db mice. Lina and EX equally improved ejection fraction in both the WT and the db/db mice. mRNA levels of ASC, NALP3, IL-1β, IL-6, Collagen-1, and Collagen-3 were higher in the db/db mice than in the WT mice. Infarction increased these levels in the WT and db/db mice. Lina more than EX attenuated the increase in ASC, NALP3, IL-1β, IL-6, Collagen-1 and Collagen-3, TNFα and IL-1β, and decreased apoptosis, especially in the db/db mice. In vitro experiments showed that Lina, but not EX, attenuated the increase in TLR4 expression, an effect that was dependent on p38 activation with downstream upregulation of Let-7i and miR-146b levels. Lina and EX had similar effects on IS and post-infarction function, but Lina attenuated the activation of the inflammasome and the upregulation of collagen-1 and collagen-3 more than direct GLP-1 receptor activation. This effect depends on p38 activation with downstream upregulation of miR-146b levels that suppresses TLR4 expression.

Persistence and disadoption of sustainable agricultural practices in the Mississippi Delta region

The working lands programs in the United States are specifically tailored to support farmers in initiating or enhancing conservation practices. The expectation is that farmers receiving financial assistance will continue implementing these practices even after their initial contracts end, thereby increasing the programs’ cost‐effectiveness and promoting natural resources conservation. However, little is known about the likelihood of persistence and disadoption of conservation practices once the initial cost‐share contracts expire. Using the first‐order Markov chain framework on state‐level conservation practices acreage data from the Mississippi Delta region (2005–2022), this study provides quantitative estimates of changing (dis)adoption patterns of four conservation practices: cover crops (CCs), conservation tillage (CT), nutrient and irrigation management (NIM), and conservation crop rotation (CCR). The findings reveal a higher probability of persistence of NIM practices. In contrast, acres devoted to CCs and CT tend to transition into other alternative practices, indicating a greater likelihood of disadoption. Importantly, the likelihood of acres that initially adopt conservation practices with funding shifting to a condition of no conservation activity is minimal. The transition probability estimates facilitate the prediction of future adoption rates of conservation practices and aid funding agencies in prioritizing their conservation efforts. Core Ideas Conservation practices face risk of disadoption after the end of funding period. Cover crops and conservation tillage are disadopted more, while nutrient and irrigation management practices persist. Farmers chose alternative conservation practices instead of moving to the state of no conservation.

The Impact of COVID-19 on Urban Water Consumption in the United States

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed how we define “home”, which is recast as the new coffee shop, restaurant, entertainment center, and office during the pandemic. The shift toward working from home led to substantial changes in how consumers behave, affecting the consumption of resources in some cases for years to come. Using data from six water utilities in various states in the U.S., we investigated how water consumption has changed attributable to the implementation of stay-at-home (SAH) orders. The results indicated an overall increase of between 3.08% and 13.65% in daily water consumption during the SAH orders compared to the same period in 2018 and 2019, with the gaps closing as lockdown restrictions eased. The findings also revealed that the changes in water consumption across sectors and user groups were heterogeneous. Specifically, the results showed that total daily residential water demand during SAH orders in 2020 increased significantly, between 11.80% and 13.65%, relative to the same period in 2018 and 2019, but the changes in water consumption for non-residential properties headed in opposite directions with reductions between −22.53% and −45.08%. In addition, we found that the low-income groups did not change their water consumption even with the lockdown.

Inspecting the relationship among E-service quality, E-trust, E-customer satisfaction and behavioral intentions of online shopping customers

The purpose of this study is to clarify whether there are relationships among the four key factors contributing to the success of e-business: e-service quality, e-trust e-customer satisfaction and behavioral intentions, thus make a conclusion and provide better understanding in the field of e-service and e-marketing. This study method used to evaluate and test the scale and theoretical model in the study is quantitative research with sample size N = 476 through the survey to deliver questionnaire directly to subjects. This study examined the scale by confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and the model of theoretical research by structural equation modeling (SEM). The results of analysis and verification of measurement scales and theoretical research models show that the research scales achieve unidirectional, reliability, convergent validity and high discriminant validity. The hypotheses are accepted at 95% reliability. The study has discovered the new indirect and positive impact of e-service quality on behavioral intentions through mediators e-trust and e-customer satisfaction, as well as other sub relationships, which can be used as foundation for future researches. At the end, managerial implications and recommendations plus contributions are proposed for e-commerce firms, e-marketers and researchers.

Groundwater Quality Assessment Using Fuzzy-AHP in An Giang Province of Vietnam

Along with rapid population growth in Vietnam, there is an increasing dependence on groundwater for various activities. An Giang province is known to be one of the agricultural intensification areas of The Vietnamese Mekong Delta (VMD). This study aimed to evaluate the spatiotemporal variation of groundwater quality for a period of ten years from 2009 to 2018 in An Giang. The weighted groundwater quality index (GWQI) was developed based on the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (Fuzzy-AHP) for assigning weighted parameters. The results show that that shallow wells in the Northeast and Southeast regions of An Giang were mostly categorized under “bad water” quality with high arsenic (As) concentration over the years partly due to huge amounts of sediment deposition in monsoon season. Overall, the reason for the poor groundwater quality in An Giang was the combined effect of both natural and human activities. On the other hand, we detected high values of GWQI links with high As concentration in areas where people extract more groundwater for irrigation. Temporal variation of GWQI suggested that groundwater quality at eight wells has improved from 2009 to 2018 in the wet season as compared to the dry season. The reason behind the improvement of groundwater quality during wet season was the decrease in river discharge, which causes less deposition of suspended solids near the flood plains. Moreover, the filling of unused wells can reduce the movement of pollutants from unused wells to groundwater aquifers. Although there was not sufficient evidence to show the relationship between As and sediment concentration, the temporal reduction trend in river discharge and suspended solids was detected in An Giang. The understanding of groundwater quality can help policymakers protect and manage limited water resources in the long-term.
