The design and implementation of secure IoT platforms and software solutions represent both a required functional feature and a performance acceptance factor nowadays. This paper describes relevant cybersecurity problems considered during the proposed microservices architecture development. Service composition mechanisms and their security are affected by the underlying hardware components and networks. The overall speedup of the platforms, which are implemented using the new 5G networks, and the capabilities of new performant IoT devices may be wasted by an inadequate combination of authentication services and security mechanisms, by the architectural misplacing of the encryption services, or by the inappropriate subsystems scaling. Considering the emerging microservices platforms, the Spring Boot alternative is used to implement data generation services, IoT sensor reading services, IoT actuators control services, and authentication services, and ultimately assemble them into a secure microservices architecture. Furthermore, considering the designed architecture, relevant security aspects related to the medical and energy domains are analyzed and discussed. Based on the proposed architectural concept, it is shown that well-designed and orchestrated architectures that consider the proper security aspects and their functional influence can lead to stable and secure implementations of the end user’s software platforms.

Upon the Haskell support for the web applications development
2015
Some of the most challenging directions in recent theoretical and practical research concern both the web science and the web applications development. Any alive science and any alive programming language should increase its connection with the web domain. Apart from general advantages provided by the functional language programming Haskell, its specific support for the web applications design and implementation is highlighted in this paper. It is also our target to reveal here some mathematical grounds of the web as a modern and very young science.Appropriate examples will be selected from our students’ functional web applications. So, the web ecosystem and particularly those characteristics which are relevant for guiding our students to choose Haskell for developing performant maths-based web solutions are pointed out. All the mathematical evaluations involved in this approach are Haskell based.

Exploring Students' Digital and Information Literacy Skills: A Qualitative Approach
2024
This study investigates students' digital and information literacy competencies through a qualitative design, emphasizing their ability to use digital resources effectively. Through semi-structured interviews, focus groups, and document analysis, data were collected from a diverse group of students. Findings show that students rate their level of information and digital literacy as average, which may suggest some uncertainty about the applicability of these competencies in academic and professional settings. The study highlights the crucial role of educators in promoting these skills through targeted interventions. Recommendations are offered for policy development and practical strategies to bridge the skills gap.

In the context of climate change, the decline in biodiversity and current socio-economic trends, which support the processes of industrialization or abandonment of agricultural land, have generated numerous concepts and trends to encourage sustainable agriculture and a better connection between agricultural activities and nature. Concepts such as traditional agricultural landscapes (TALs), high nature value farmlands (HNV farmlands), organic farming, and agricultural heritage systems are associated with the maintenance or sustainable development of ecological agricultural systems, with an emphasis on providing ecosystem services, biodiversity conservation, and heritage protection. This study aimed to review the concept associated with traditional agricultural landscapes and identify the evolution and trends in research on traditional agricultural landscapes. We hypothesize that our findings will advance our understanding of potential alternative methods of sustainable agricultural development associated with traditional agricultural landscapes. We analyzed articles published in international journals, linked to the Web of Science database, related to traditional agricultural landscapes between 1992 and 2021 (n = 230). Keyword analysis was used to identify trends and developments in traditional agricultural landscape research. We chose a non-metric multidimensional scaling analysis (NMDS) because we intended to examine how the relationships between different concepts are established. Our results illustrate the most common research topics related to traditional agricultural landscapes and alternative development pathways associated with sustainable agriculture. The terms used are promoted by the journal Biodiversity and Conservation, which contains articles addressing the top topics of interest and relevance to the research topic of this paper. The NMDS analysis captures the complexity of the topic addressed through the resulting areas of intersection. Our findings suggest that several topics of current interest are addressed in the research on traditional agricultural landscapes. The interest of the scientific community in traditional agricultural landscape research shows a growing trend. The adaptation of traditional agriculture to the current context is a particularly important subject to be addressed in future research.

BASIC TYPES OF FLIP-FLOPS: SPECIFICATION AND AUTOMATIC VERIFICATION
2014
The computers hardware components are regarded as very modern real systems, properly to be modeled through formal methods. Specifically, our interests are concerning an algebraic prototype for the entire computer behaviour based on the interconnected hardware components. The authors contributions in this paper are following two directions: presenting the original specification and implementation agents for modelling all the four types of basic flip-flop circuits behaviour and applying automatic verification of the corresponding agents equivalences. These results represent the background of the sequential part of our prototype.

FitPi: Wearable IoT solution for a daily smart life
2020
The extensive implementation of Internet of Things (IoT) solutions and its wide popularity to the public over the past decade enabled emergent applications that provide sophisticated, proactive health care solutions that can improve the quality of life of individuals. This work proposes an IoT architecture and implements a prototype solution that allows its users to improve their physical activity by collecting vital signs using wearables and other environmental and habitual information in order to monitor their activity and propose behaviors in a smart way that will allow them to achieve their preset goals. The focus is on the increased usability of the system employing refined solutions like voice recognition and smart visualization to enable its seamless use while offering an interoperable architecture that will enhance its flexibility. The prototype implementation offers a proof of concept evaluation of the proposed system, applying state of the art technologies and using existing hardware and popular gadgets..

The integrated collection of personal health data represents a relevant research topic, which is enhanced further by the development of next-generation mobile networks that can be used in order to transport the acquired medical data. The gathering of personal health data has become recently feasible using relevant wearable personal devices. Nevertheless, these devices do not possess sufficient computational power, and do not offer proper local data storage capabilities. This paper presents an integrated personal health metrics data management system, which considers a virtualized symmetric 5G data transportation system. The personal health data are acquired using a client application component, which is normally deployed on the user’s mobile device, regardless it is a smartphone, smartwatch, or another kind of personal mobile device. The collected data are securely transported to the cloud data processing components, using a virtualized 5G infrastructure and homomorphically encrypted data packages. The system has been comprehensively assessed through the consideration of a real-world use case, which is presented.

2020
This paper is organised around the problem of environmental monitoring and ambient environmental monitoring, as parts of social computing and the Internet of Things areas of research. In recent times, the use of sensing devices and technologies has had increasing significant interest in many fields, some remarkable results being achieved, particularly with evaluating, monitoring and analysing the air quality. The main purpose of the system developed in our project is to introduce a way to monitor the air quality in a given room, advancing the possibility of viewing history or even real-time data via a web service. Although the level of hardware is abstracted, the focus is on the problem that it addresses and on solving it, as well.

C++ (programming language)
2013
Image processing is naturally expressed in terms of parallel array operations. In this paper, the authors use Repa as a great tool for coding image manipulation algorithms. Their target is to analyze the execution time of a Haskell parallel implementation and also to compare the results to the appropriate C++ implementation. A certain example from the image processing area of interests is selected. The conclusion is that the compared execution time values depend both on the physic and the logic parameters of the applied solutions.
