Internal factors & consequences of business model innovation

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to propose a theoretical model of business model innovation based on evidences from the past literature. The paper established a link between business model innovation (BMI) strategic flexibility, competitive advantage and firm competence.
Design/methodology/approach
The study was approached from a theoretical perspective using previous literature on BMI from 2000 to 2017, as per the recommendations of Tranfield et al. (2003). A total of 104 conceptual and empirical articles on BMI research spanning from 2000 to 2017 were analyzed based on different classification schemes.
Findings
The study proposed a theoretical model of BMI and discussed how the various internal factors, such as organizational culture, organizational structure, organizational inertia, leadership and technology drive BMI. The study highlighted how BMI gives companies sustainable competitive advantage. The study also highlighted that the BMI is an important predictor of firm performance and strategic flexibility. Further, the study found that the firm size and firm inexperience mediate the influence of BMI on firm competence.
Research limitations/implications
The study highlights how BMI can be a source of sustainable competitive advantage and enhance the firm competitiveness and strategic flexibility of a firm.
Originality/value
This study is the first of its kind which has developed a conceptual model on the various internal factors and consequences of BMI. The study highlighted how BMI is an important predictor of firm performance, competitive advantage and strategic flexibility.

A Clinico-Immunological Perspective of Paradoxical Reaction in HIV-ve Tuberculous Meningitis with Therapeutic Possibilities

Tuberculous meningitis (TBM) is a critical form of tuberculosis with high morbidity and mortality. Paradoxical reactions (PR) are frequently observed in neurotuberculosis, with diverse manifestations. A selective immune dys/upregulation leads to cytokine surge. The exact immune pathogenesis is not known. This review explores the established literature-based knowledge in PR in HIV-ve TBM to visualize the gray zone in neurotuberculosis and possible immune therapeutic adventures. We undertook this systematic review as per the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses guidelines and searched PubMed, Scopus, Embase, and Google Scholar database till July 25, 2024, to identify eligible studies focusing on PR in TBM/neurotuberculosis. Quality assessment followed the protocol of Murad MH et al. Data were synthesized narratively and statistically analyzed using Microsoft Excel. The search yielded 112 records describing 617 patients. PR is an immune dys/upregulated state in tuberculosis observed with a median age of 34 years (7-74 years), incidence of 12.7-64.7%, and 9.09-27.8% mortality. The spectrum involved clinical PR (tuberculomas, hydrocephalus, infarcts, arachnoiditis), imaging PR, cerebrospinal fluid PR, or in combinations. Treatment in the form of medical [corticosteroid, thalidomide, intrathecal hyaluronidase, biological (anti-tumor necrosis factor-alpha/TNF-α agents)], surgery (ventriculoperitoneal shunting) has shown good clinical response. Immunological and genetic studies in PR/neurotuberculosis are sparse. Immunological agents like corticosteroid, thalidomide, biologicals like anti-TNF-α have proven benefit in treating PR/neurotuberculosis. Research into the neuroimmunological and genetic aspects of PR is lacking and needs further exploration via predictive models and randomized therapy-based trials.

Extensive Vasculitis in Tuberculous Meningitis

Tuberculous meningitis causes substantial morbidity and mortality in tropical countries. The various complications reported are hydrocephalus, vasculitic infarcts, tuberculomas, abscesses, and optochiasmatic arachnoiditis. Vasculitis in tuberculosis is basically at the level of lenticulostriate arteries supplying the basal ganglia and terminal cortical branches. In this case report, we present a rare case of tuberculous meningitis with extensive vasculopathy. During hospitalization, she developed acute onset right-sided classical hemiplegia with the inability to speak due to left internal carotid artery occlusion on imaging. The cerebrospinal fluid depicted very high protein levels. The exact pathogenesis of such extensive involvement in tuberculous meningitis substantiates the need for further studies.

Complementarity among plant growth promoting traits in rhizospheric bacterial communities promotes plant growth

An assessment of roles of rhizospheric microbial diversity in plant growth is helpful in understanding plant-microbe interactions. Using random combinations of rhizospheric bacterial species at different richness levels, we analysed the contribution of species richness, compositions, interactions and identity on soil microbial respiration and plant biomass. We showed that bacterial inoculation in plant rhizosphere enhanced microbial respiration and plant biomass with complementary relationships among bacterial species. Plant growth was found to increase linearly with inoculation of rhizospheric bacterial communities with increasing levels of species or plant growth promoting trait diversity. However, inoculation of diverse bacterial communities having single plant growth promoting trait, i.e., nitrogen fixation could not enhance plant growth over inoculation of single bacteria. Our results indicate that bacterial diversity in rhizosphere affect ecosystem functioning through complementary relationship among plant growth promoting traits and may play significant roles in delivering microbial services to plants.

In this present article, a thorough study of a single-slope solar still has been conducted. The single slope solar still was modified with an inclined wick at 30°. The basin water was varied with different salt concentrations (0 %, 2 %, and 4 %). The study was performed for four different cases viz: (1) Conventional Solar Still (CSS) (2) Tilted wick Solar Still (TWSS) with 0 % salt concentration (3) TWSS with 2 % salt concentration (4) TWSS with 4 % salt concentration. The experiment was conducted under constant radiation of 500 W/m

that was provided with the help of external panels. The functional correlation between basin water temperature (T

) and time has been established. Moreover, from the obtained results best distillate output was acquired at 2 % salt concentration as the salt particles trapped inside the wick pores help to increase the evaporation rate effectively. The overall distillate output increased by 8.3 %, 17.5 %, and 8.5 % for Case 2, Case 3, and Case 4 when compared to Case 1 respectively.
