Caregiver Mental Health, Parenting Practices, and Perceptions of Child Attachment in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder
2018
In 2002, the National Institutes of Health sponsored a meeting concerning methodological challenges of research in psychosocial interventions in Autism Spectrum Disorders. This paper provides a summary of the presentations and the discussions that occurred during this meeting. Recommendations to federal and private agencies included the need for randomized clinical trials of comprehensive interventions for autism as the highest, but not the sole priority. Ongoing working groups were proposed to address psychosocial interventions with a focus on relevant statistics, standardized documentation and methods of diagnosis, development of outcome measures, establishment of standards in research; and the need for innovative treatment designs, including application of designs from other research areas to the study of interventions in ASD.

Nonlocality in instantaneous quantum circuits
2014
We show that families of Instantaneous Quantum Polynomial (IQP) circuits corresponding to nontrivial Bell tests exhibit nonlocality. However, we also prove that this nonlocality can only be demonstrated using post-selection or nonlinear processing of the measurement outcomes. Therefore if the output of a computation is encoded in the parity of the measurement outcomes, then families of IQP circuits whose full output distributions are hard to sample still only provide a computational advantage relative to locally causal theories under post-selection. Consequently, post-selection is a crucial technique for obtaining a computational advantage for IQP circuits (with respect to decision problems) and for demonstrating nonlocality within IQP circuits, suggesting a strong link between these phenomena.

At about the same time, [John Hospodavis] was responding to a call that two men were \"threatening customers and throwing their shoes\" at Spazio's restaurant, according to the police report. The two men had already left Spazio's by the time Hospodavis arrived. He then reported seeing [Lyle Gluck] and another man fitting the suspects' descriptions at Boccaccino's. According to the suit, Hospodavis shouted at Gluck and another man to \"get out here.\" When Gluck said he had just ordered a slice of pizza, he said Hospodavis responded by saying \"I'm sick of coming down here for you punks,\" according to the suit. Gluck started to pick up a closed beer bottle that was on the counter next to him, at which point Hospodavis said he \"felt threatened and took him into custody,\" charging Gluck with disorderly intoxication.

KathyAnn Ferguson, 26, flew in on a JetBlue flight from Montego Bay, Jamaica, around 4:30 p.m. Sunday, according to a complaint affidavit. During a secondary search, Ferguson admitted to a Customs and Border Patrol officer that she had a package inside her vagina. Martin Mahon, 57, and Gillian Johnston, 48, both of Fort Lauderdale, had recently split up, said Detective DeAnna Greenlaw, a spokeswoman for the Fort Lauderdale Police Department. When officers arrived, they found Mahon and Johnston each suffering from multiple stab wounds and \"severely injured,\" Greenlaw said.

[Ravi Shah] started yelling about his cheeseburgers and told the officers \"he was going to make a citizen's arrest on all of\" them. Elections supervisor Dr. Brenda Snipes issued the notice late Thursday, and said her office will display the notices at all early voting sites and polling places on Election Day. In addition, voters will be given \"courtesy reminders,\" an announcement from Snipes' office said. \"Please read all sides of the ballot to ensure that you see all amendments and initiatives on your ballot,\" the notice reads. \"...There are 5 questions on the ballot: 3 constitutional amendments, 1 county question and 1 school board question.\"

The Sheriff's Office will be holding Operation Medicine Cabinet and a Shred-A-Thon from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lowe's Home Improvement, 1851 N. Federal Highway. After Broward Sheriff Scott Israel increased prices to cities that contract with the Broward Sheriff's Office for police and fire services, Southwest Ranches dumped the agency. In the past, the 14 cities that hire the Sheriff's office worked all kinds of individual deals, and that's why Cooper City presently underpays for its services, as the Broward County auditor confirmed earlier this year.

\"Today's transition of Hollywood into the consolidated system is a significant milestone and marks the completion of the transition phase,\" he said. \"As we move forward we will continue to collaborate with our participating cities to ensure we are delivering the highest level of 911 service to the citizens, visitors and our public safety first responders.\" \"Firefighters exposed to carcinogens and other chemicals while on the job are disproportionately diagnosed with breast cancer ? just one of many cancers linked to the work firefighters do,\" spokesman Mike Jachles said in a news release. \"Firefighters are motivated to get involved for many reasons, and often it's because they have been personally affected in some way by the disease,\" Sheriff [Scott Israel] said. \"We are supporting all cancer awareness and prevention by encouraging others to give so that no cancer patient goes without life-saving treatments or having hope for a cure.\"

\"The fact that people think it's humorous to have dogs unleashed on African-Americans -- that they thought any part of that was funny -- it's just -- it's disgusting,\" said [Jasmen Rogers], 25, an organizer for the Dream Defenders activist group. \"People with powers are doing things like this. It's not funny to us -- not in the least.\" Among the officers fired, none had served more than five years with the department. Collectively, they had more than a dozen public commendations. However, the personnel files of [Alex Alvarez], [James Wells] and [Christopher Sousa] showed notes for \"use of force\" \"unnecessary force\" and \"force excessive.\" \"Today's report released by the Fort Lauderdale Police Department is a painful reminder of our city's flawed criminal justice system and it underscores why serious reform is sorely needed,\" [Marsha Ellison] said. \"While we commend the Fort Lauderdale Police Department for issuing this report and for removing the officers involved in the sending of racially inappropriate text messages, more aggressive actions must be taken to ensure that law enforcement officials treat every member of this community respectfully and justly.\"

\"Changing the culture of such a large organization is like turning around the Titanic,\" board member Rosalind Osgood said. \"Mr. [Robert Runcie] is working very hard to effectuate change. Although there is need for improvement, I feel that he is doing a good job overall.\" If things had gone [Nan Rich]'s way, she'd be in the governor's mansion right now. Instead, she's reduced to setting her sights on a County Commission seat, something she said just months ago that she \"absolutely\" wasn't interested in. \"You know what? I have certain interests within the public policy arena. And the County Commission, City Commission -- I had that when I first ran [for the state Legislature] -- they said, 'You need to start on the City Commission or on the County Commission.' And I said, 'No I don't.' Because the issues that are important to me and the ones that I want to work on are ones that are decided in the state Legislature. People have asked me if I want to go to Congress. And I say no, actually I love state government. That's where I have had great impact, even though I've been in the minority.\"
