In-situ cross-linking strategy for efficient and operationally stable methylammoniun lead iodide solar cells
Long-term operational stability is the foremost issue delaying the commercialization of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Here we demonstrate an in-situ cross-linking strategy for operationally stable inverted MAPbI 3 PSCs through the incorporation of a cross-linkable organic small molecule additive trimethylolpropane triacrylate (TMTA) into perovskite films. TMTA can chemically anchor to grain boundaries and then in-situ cross-link to a robust continuous network polymer after thermal treatment, thus enhancing the thermal, water-resisting and light-resisting properties of organic/perovskite films. As a result, the cross-linked PSCs exhibit 590-fold improvement in operational stability, retaining nearly 80% of their initial efficiency after continuous power output for 400 h at maximum power point under full-sun AM 1.5 G illumination of Xenon lamp without any UV-filter. In addition, under moisture or thermal (85 °C) conditions, cross-linked TMTA-based PSCs also show excellent stability with over 90% of their initial or post burn-in efficiency after aging for over 1000 h. The stability of perovskite solar cell remains the biggest challenge that hinders its commercialization. Here Li et al. incorporate crosslinkable molecules to form a crosslinked perovskite film and increase the device operational stability by 590 times to 400 h under standard Xenon lamp without filters.

Band topology in classical waves: Wilson-loop approach to topological numbers and fragile topology
The rapid development of topological photonics and acoustics calls for accurate understanding of band topology in classical waves, which is not yet achieved in many situations. Here, we present the Wilson-loop approach for exact numerical calculation of the topological invariants for several photonic/sonic crystals. We demonstrate that these topological photonic/sonic crystals are topological crystalline insulators with fragile topology, a feature which has been ignored in previous studies. We further discuss the bulk-edge correspondence in these systems with emphasis on symmetry broken on the edges.
Magnetically Arrested Circumbinary Accretion Flows
Binary systems with comparable masses and a surrounding accretion disk can accrete gas through spiral accretion streams penetrating the central cavity formed by tidal interactions. Using three-dimensional Newtonian magnetohydrodynamics simulations, we investigate the possibility of a magnetically arrested accretion flow through the cavity. Rather than solely continuously feeding the binary through spiral accretion streams, the accretion is regulated by the strong magnetic field inside the cavity. Transport of mass and angular momentum onto the binary then proceeds largely periodically in magnetic flux eruption episodes. The ejected flux tubes carry angular momentum outward and away from the binary, inject hot plasma into the disk, and can launch flares. This likely intermittent scenario could have potential implications for the emission signatures of supermassive black hole binaries and shed light onto the role magnetic fields play in the binary’s orbital evolution.
Observation of a phononic higher-order Weyl semimetal
Weyl semimetals (WSMs) 1 exhibit phenomena such as Fermi arc surface states, pseudo-gauge fields and quantum anomalies that arise from topological band degeneracy in crystalline solids for electrons 1 and metamaterials for photons 2 and phonons 3 . Here we report a higher-order Weyl semimetal (HOWSM) in a phononic system that exhibits topologically protected boundary states in multiple dimensions. We created the physical realization of the HOWSM in a chiral phononic crystal with uniaxial screw symmetry. Using acoustic pump–probe spectroscopies, we observed coexisting chiral Fermi arc states on two-dimensional surfaces and dispersive hinge arc states on one-dimensional hinge boundaries. These topological boundary states link the projections of the Weyl points (WPs) in different dimensions and directions, and hence demonstrate the higher-order topological physics 4 – 8 in WSMs. Our study further establishes the fundamental connection between higher-order topology and Weyl physics in crystalline materials and should stimulate further work on other potential materials, such as higher-order topological nodal-line semimetals. Symmetry is utilized to realize a phononic higher-order Weyl semimetal.
Second-order topology and multidimensional topological transitions in sonic crystals
Topological insulators with unique edge states have revolutionized the understanding of solid-state materials. Recently, higher-order topological insulators (HOTIs), which host both gapped edge states and in-gap corner/hinge states, protected concurrently by band topology, were predicted and observed in experiments, unveiling a new horizon beyond the conventional bulk-edge correspondence. However, the control and manifestation of band topology in a hierarchy of dimensions, which is at the heart of HOTIs, have not yet been witnessed. Here, we propose theoretically and observe experimentally that tunable two-dimensional sonic crystals can be versatile systems to visualize and harness higher-order topology. In our systems, the two-dimensional acoustic bands mimic the quantum spin Hall effect, while the resultant one-dimensional helical edge states are gapped due to broken space-symmetry and carry quantized Zak phases, which then lead to zero-dimensional topological corner states. We demonstrate that topological transitions in the bulk and edges can be triggered independently by tuning the geometry of the sonic crystals. With complementary experiments and theories, our study reveals rich physics in HOTIs, opening a new route towards tunable topological metamaterials where novel applications, such as the topological transfer of acoustic energy among two-, one- and zero-dimensional modes, can be achieved.By tuning the geometry of a two-dimensional sonic crystal, its one-dimensional helical edge states become gapped and zero-dimensional topological corner states emerge. The band topology is thus manifested in a hierarchy of dimensions.
Big data for small and medium-sized enterprises (SME): a knowledge management model
Purpose Big data has raised challenges and opportunities for business, the information technology (IT) industry and research communities. Nowadays, small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) are dealing with big data using their limited resources. The purpose of this paper is to describe the synergistic relationship between big data and knowledge management (KM), analyze the challenges and IT solutions of big data for SME and derives a KM model of big data for SME based on the collected real-world business cases. Design/methodology/approach The study collects eight well-documented cases of successful big data analytics in SME and conducts a qualitative data analysis of these cases in the context of KM. The qualitative data analysis of the multiple cases reveals a KM model of big data for SME. Findings The proposed model portrays the synergistic relationship between big data and KM. It indicates that strategic use of data, knowledge guided big data project planning, IT solutions for SME and new knowledge products are the major constructs of KM of big data for SME. These constructs form a loop through the causal relationships between them. Research limitations/implications The number of cases used for the derivation of the KM model is not large. The coding of these qualitative data could involve biases and errors. Consequently, the conceptual KM model proposed in this paper is subject to further verification and validation. Practical implications The proposed model can guide SME to exploit big data for business by placing emphasis on KM instead of sophisticated IT techniques or the magnitude of data. Originality/value The study contributes to the KM literature by developing a theoretical model of KM of big data for SME based on underlying dimensions of strategic use of data, knowledge guided big data project planning, IT solutions for SME and new knowledge products.
