An Empirical Study Based on the Talent Competitiveness Assessment System: A Comparison of China’s and International Talent Competitions

The Global Talent Competitiveness Index is a system created by the Institut Européen d’Administration des Affaires, based on which we compared China’s talent competitiveness rankings with those of the G20 countries and analyzed the performance of each indicator. Thus, we analyzed the strengths and weaknesses of each country’s talent cultivation policies and then explored the factors affecting them based on their national conditions. The analysis shows that, despite fluctuations, China’s global talent competitiveness ranking is generally on an upward trend compared with other G20 countries. Further analysis of strengths and weaknesses shows that China’s talent competitiveness has advantages in government efficiency, market dynamism, education system, R&D investment, and technological innovation. This study develops an original matrix model to examine the internationalization level of China’s talent competitiveness. However, there are gaps between China and developed countries in terms of labor market policy effects, education matching, vocational education, and key human resources. Drawing from large-scale data, four strategies can be implemented in the future, namely piloting & enterprising, opportunity utilization, threat transformation, and disadvantage adjustment, to improve China’s talent competitiveness.

This study explores how mixed reality (MR) game environments, enabled by sensor-based motion tracking and interactive visualization technologies, can be effectively integrated into blended learning to promote sustainability education. Using eight Macau bakeries as empirical cases, field investigations collected and categorized surplus bread samples, while carbon emission frameworks informed pedagogical design. Employing a multidimensional research methodology combining questionnaires and semi-structured interviews, the study delved into the intrinsic link between bread waste and carbon emissions. Through perceptual interaction design and task-oriented challenge modes within the MR environment, users were immersed in experiencing the pathway of sustainable behavioral impact. Post-instructional engagement with the MR game revealed that >90% of participants expressed strong affinity for the system design, and >85% perceived it as intuitively operable. Analysis of user feedback and performance data demonstrates the system’s potential to deliver solutions for reducing bread waste and carbon emissions. By establishing a replicable MR game framework and technical mechanisms, this research offers novel perspectives for future sustainability education studies in the field of behavioral mixed reality design.

Effect of the Dry-Wet Cycle on the Performance of Marine Waste Silt Solidified by Calcium Carbide Residue and Plant Ash

This research aims to investigate the potential of engineering waste marine silt stabilized by a self-developed stabilizing chemical additive called PZ-1 as a subgrade filler. PZ-1 is composed of calcium carbide residue (CCR) and plant ash (PA) under an optimal composition ratio determined by coupling particle swarm optimization with a support vector machine (PSO-SVM). The effect of curing agent dosage (wg), temperature (wT), number of dry-wet cycles (Ndw), and organic matter content (wo) on the micro-macro behavior of the stabilized silt were investigated via the unconfined compressive strength (UCS) test, the scanning electron microscope (SEM) test, and the X-ray diffraction (XRD) test. The experimental results demonstrate a significant positive effect of PZ-1 on the unconfined compressive strength (qu) of marine engineering waste silt with curing agent contents of 0~8%. It was also found that strength improvement of the stabilized silt can be attributed to the formation of gelling substances such as C-S-H and calcite. The water resistance of the stabilized silt can be enhanced by increasing the dosage of the curing agent. Moreover, the organic matter content and ambient temperature have significant effects on the dry-wet cycle tolerance of solidified soil, among which temperature exhibits a more obvious impact.

Molecular characterization and B-cell epitope analysis of the TSP11 gene in Echinococcus infection strains from Yunnan Province

This study investigates the molecular intricacies of the transmembrane protein TSP11 gene in Echinococcus strains isolated from livestock and patients in Yunnan Province afflicted with Echinococcus granulosus (E. granulosus) between 2016 and 2020. Gene typing analysis of the ND1 gene revealed the presence of the G1 type, G5 type and untyped strains, constituting 52.4, 38.1 and 9.5%, respectively. The analysis of 42 DNA sequences has revealed 24 novel single nucleotide polymorphic sites, delineating 11 haplotypes, all of which were of the mutant type. Importantly, there were no variations observed in mutation sites or haplotypes in any of the hosts. The total length of the TSP11 gene's 4 exons is 762 bp, encoding 254 amino acids. Our analysis posits the existence of 6 potential B-cell antigenic epitopes within TSP11, specifically at positions 49-KSN-51, 139-GKRG-142, 162-DNG-164, 169-NGS-171, 185-DS-186 and 231-PPRFTN-236. Notably, these epitopes exhibit consistent presence among various intermediate hosts and haplotypes. However, further validation is imperative to ascertain their viability as diagnostic antigens for E. granulosus in the Yunnan Province.

Perioperative poor grip strength recovery is associated with 30-day complication rate after cardiac surgery discharge in middle-aged and older adults - a prospective observational study

Background
Although perioperative care during heart surgery has improved considerably, the rate of postoperative complications has remained stable. It has not been concluded how to better apply grip strength to clinical, postoperative complications. So our study aimed at researching the best way for using grip value for predicting early postoperative complications.
Methods
A total of 212 patients with mean age 63.8 ± 6.3 who underwent cardiac surgery participated in our study. We analyzed the ROC curve of grip strength, grip/weight and grip recovery with complications, found the best cutoff point. Logistic regression confirmed the association between grip strength grouping and complications.
Results
We found that 36 patients had 30-day complications. EuroSCORE were 2.15 ± 1.52 and 2.42 ± 1.58 between normal and complication groups, respectively. The area under the receiver-operating characteristic curve (AUC) of grip recovery take the most area (0.837,

< 0.001), and the cutoff point was 83.92%. In logistic regression, lower grip recovery has higher risk impact on 30-day complications for 25.68 times than normal group, after adjusted surgery-related factors. After regrouped characteristic information by grip recovery cutoff point

Conclusions
Poor grip recovery may be related to higher risk of postoperative complications within 30 days after discharge in middle-aged and older people independent of surgical risk. The results of this study provide a reference for the development of rehabilitation programs in the early postoperative recovery, and may also be a prognostic indicator for postoperative high-risk groups.

Objectives
Furosemide is usually administered before the Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) to improve water–sodium retention. However, no final conclusions are available on the postoperative renal outcome of furosemide. We evaluated the effect of preoperative furosemide on acute kidney injury (AKI) after CABG.
Methods
We recorded the use of furosemide 14 days before surgery in all patients who underwent CABG from 2016 to 2017. Patients were divided into furosemide (F) group and non-furosemide (NF) group according to preoperative use of furosemide. A 1:1 propensity score matching was performed. Multivariate analyses were conducted to determine risk factors for AKI after CABG.
Results
Overall, 974 patients were included in the study, of which 82 cases were complicated with postoperative AKI. The incidence of AKI was significantly increased in F group than NF group (28.9% vs. 7.4%,
p
= 0.000). After adjusting for risk factors, the incidence of AKI in the F group was 5.34 times more than the NF group (95% confidence interval [CI] 2.45–11.64;
p
= 0.000). The incidence of AKI increased significantly when the cumulative dosage of furosemide exceeded 110 mg (odds ratio [OR] 6.23; 95% CI 2.07–18.74,
p
= 0.001) and 250 mg (OR 8.31; 95% CI 2.87–24.02,

= 0.000). After the propensity-matching group analysis, same results were obtained.
Conclusions
The incidence of AKI after CABG was related to the use of preoperative furosemide, and it increased exponentially with the increase of cumulative dose of furosemide. This provides guidance for the dose of preoperative furosemide.

Feasibility study of a large-scale tuned mass damper with eddy current damping mechanism

Tuned mass dampers (TMDs) have been widely used in recent years to mitigate structural vibration. However, the damping mechanisms employed in the TMDs are mostly based on viscous dampers, which have several well-known disadvantages, such as oil leakage and difficult adjustment of damping ratio for an operating TMD. Alternatively, eddy current damping (ECD) that does not require any contact with the main structure is a potential solution. This paper discusses the design, analysis, manufacture and testing of a large-scale horizontal TMD based on ECD. First, the theoretical model of ECD is formulated, then one large-scale horizontal TMD using ECD is constructed, and finally performance tests of the TMD are conducted. The test results show that the proposed TMD has a very low intrinsic damping ratio, while the damping ratio due to ECD is the dominant damping source, which can be as large as 15% in a proper configuration. In addition, the damping ratios estimated with the theoretical model are roughly consistent with those identified from the test results, and the source of this error is investigated. Moreover, it is demonstrated that the damping ratio in the proposed TMD can be easily adjusted by varying the air gap between permanent magnets and conductive plates. In view of practical applications, possible improvements and feasibility considerations for the proposed TMD are then discussed. It is confirmed that the proposed TMD with ECD is reliable and feasible for use in structural vibration control.

Effect of additives on the properties of ceramsite from solid wastes

The main purpose of this study is to investigate the properties of ceramsite from solid wastes, with glass cullet and corn stalk as additives, and its adsorption performance of NH4+–N in water was studied. The results showed that the physical properties of the ceramsite met with the China’s industrial standard as the artificial ceramsite filter material for water treatment (CJ/T 299-2008) when the specific formula of dewatered sewage sludge, river sediment, and coal fly ash were in mass ratio of 5:4:1, and the dosages of glass cullet and corn stalk were 7.0 and 9.0 g per 100 g mixture, respectively. The concentration of heavy metals in the lixivium was also lower than the threshold of China’s national standard for hazardous wastes (GB 5085.3-2007). Meanwhile, the 3-order polynomial model could be used to describe the sintering process, with the critical temperature was 500 °C. The adsorption results indicated that the equilibrium adsorption capacity of the ceramsite was 1.83 mg/g when the initial concentration of NH4+–N, reaction temperature and adsorbent dosage were 75 mg/L, 298 K, and 10 g/L, respectively. Freundlich isotherm was more suitable for describing the adsorption process and this process was in conformity with pseudo-first-order kinetics.

Phenol-soluble modulins (PSMs), a novel class of small peptides with an amphipathic α-helical structure and strong surfactant-like properties, are produced by most staphylococci, especially pathogenic

PSMs can: induce the production of proinflammatory cytokines; recruit, activate and lyse neutrophils to help staphylococci evade immune damage; lyse erythrocytes and are associated with the hemolysis of staphylococcal disease; facilitate the structuring and detachment of staphylococcal biofilms and disseminate biofilm-associated infection; and kill competing microbes and act as weapons in interbacterial warfare. Therefore, PSMs are considered to be critical virulence-associated factors and to play important roles in the pathogenesis of staphylococci. This review summarizes the classification, structure, expression regulation and biological functions of PSMs. The possible means to prevent PSM-associated diseases are also outlined in order to emphasize the need to investigate PSMs as potential targets for drug and vaccine design against staphylococcal infections.

The modified heart team protocol facilitated the revascularization decision-making quality in complex coronary artery disease

A lack of standardization in heart team implementation potentially leads to suboptimal decision-making quality, and we previously established a modified heart team protocol to improve the decision-making quality. The present trial was to validate the effect of the modified heart team implementation protocol on improving the decision-making quality versus the conventional protocol in complex coronary artery disease (CAD).
Eligible interventional cardiologists, cardiac surgeons and non-interventional cardiologists were randomly allocated to the intervention or control arm and established 12 heart teams in each arm. The 12 heart teams in each arm were randomly divided into 6 pairs, and 480 historic cases with complex CAD into 6 sets of 80 cases. In each arm, each set of 80 cases was discussed independently by one pair of heart teams, with each case finally receiving two heart team decisions ('pairwise decisions'). The intervention arm conducted heart team decision-making according to the previously established protocol and the control arm based on guideline recommendations. The primary outcome was the overall percent agreement of the inter-team pairwise decisions. Decision-making appropriateness was further analysed.
A total of 36 cardiac surgeons, 36 interventional cardiologists and 12 non-interventional cardiologists from 26 centres were enrolled. The overall percent agreement was significantly higher in the intervention arm than the control arm (72.1% vs 65.8%, P = 0.04; kappa 0.51 vs 0.37). Both team-level (19.4% vs 33.0%; P < 0.001) and specialist-level (interventional cardiologists, 19.8% vs 37.7%, P < 0.001; cardiac surgeons, 19.8% vs 28.7%, P < 0.001) inappropriateness rate of decision-making was significantly lower in the intervention arm than the control arm.
The modified heart team implementation protocol improved the decision-making quality and appropriateness compared with the guideline-based protocol.
