Super-Resolution Semantic Segmentation of Droplet Deposition Image for Low-Cost Spraying Measurement
2024
In-field in situ droplet deposition digitization is beneficial for obtaining feedback on spraying performance and precise spray control, the cost-effectiveness of the measurement system is crucial to its scalable application. However, the limitations of camera performance in low-cost imaging systems, coupled with dense spray droplets and a complex imaging environment, result in blurred and low-resolution images of the deposited droplets, which creates challenges in obtaining accurate measurements. This paper proposes a Droplet Super-Resolution Semantic Segmentation (DSRSS) model and a Multi-Adhesion Concave Segmentation (MACS) algorithm to address the accurate segmentation problem in low-quality droplet deposition images, and achieve a precise and efficient multi-parameter measurement of droplet deposition. Firstly, a droplet deposition image dataset (DDID) is constructed by capturing high-definition droplet images and using image reconstruction methods. Then, a lightweight DSRSS model combined with anti-blurring and super-resolution semantic segmentation is proposed to achieve semantic segmentation of deposited droplets and super-resolution reconstruction of segmentation masks. The weighted IoU (WIoU) loss function is used to improve the segmented independence of droplets, and a comprehensive evaluation criterion containing six sub-items is used for parameter optimization. Finally, the MACS algorithm continues to segment the remained adhesive droplets processed by the DSRSS model and corrects the bias of the individual droplet regions by regression. The experiments show that when the two weight parameters α and β in WIoU are 0.775 and 0.225, respectively, the droplet segmentation independence rate of DSRSS on the DDID reaches 0.998, and the IoU reaches 0.973. The MACS algorithm reduces the droplet adhesion rate in images with a coverage rate of more than 30% by 15.7%, and the correction function reduces the coverage error of model segmentation by 3.54%. The parameters of the DSRSS model are less than 1 M, making it possible to run it on embedded platforms. The proposed approach improves the accuracy of spray measurement using low-quality droplet deposition image and will help to scale-up of fast spray measurements in the field.

Calibration of Discrete Element Simulation Parameters and Model Construction for the Interaction Between Coastal Saline Alkali Soil and Soil-Engaging Components
2025
There are approximately 36.7 million hectares of saline alkali land available in China. To enhance the comprehensive utilization value of coastal saline alkali land and boost crop yields in such areas, it is essential to conduct research on optimizing the operational performance of high-performance soil contact components in light of the soil characteristics of coastal saline alkali land. Discrete element simulation can be employed to investigate the operational mechanisms of various key components. Nevertheless, at present, there is a dearth of discrete element models for the key physical parameters and soil structure of coastal saline alkali land soil. In this article, typical coastal saline alkali field soil was sampled, and the physical properties of the saline alkali soil, including salt content, moisture content, particle size distribution, and particle size, as well as intrinsic parameters such as soil compaction, density, Poisson’s ratio, and shear modulus, were measured. The Hertz Mindlin with Bonding contact model was employed. Physical experiments on soil accumulation angles at different depths were carried out using the cylindrical lifting method. Subsequently, by means of the discrete element method and the BBD experimental design method, a response surface model was established, and an optimization analysis was performed on the optimal parameters for the soil–soil collision recovery coefficient, static friction coefficient, and dynamic friction coefficient at each depth. Test benches for measuring the collision recovery coefficient, static friction coefficient, and rolling friction coefficient of saline alkali soil at -65Mn were set up, calculation formulas for each parameter were derived, and the contact parameters between soil at different depths and 65Mn were obtained. The results of the sliding friction angle test on different depths of saline alkali soil at -65Mn were further verified using the discrete element method, with a maximum error of 3.11%, which falls within the allowable range. This suggests that the calibration results of the discrete element simulation parameters for the interaction between soil and contact components are reliable, providing data and model support for future research on enhancing the operational performance of high-performance contact components.

The design and industrial innovation of intelligent agricultural machinery and equipment for saline alkali land are important means for comprehensive management and capacity improvement of saline alkali land. The autonomous and unmanned agricultural tractor is the inevitable trend of the development of intelligent machinery and equipment in saline alkali land. As an underactuated system with non-holonomic constraints, the independent trajectory planning and lateral stability control of the tractor-trailer system (TTS) face challenges in saline alkali land. In this study, based on the nonlinear underactuation characteristics of the TTS and the law of passive trailer steering, a dual-trajectory collaborative control model was designed. By solving the TTS kinematic/dynamic state space, a nonlinear leading system that can generate the reference pose of a tractor-trailer was constructed. Based on the intrinsic property of the lateral deviation of the TTS, a collaborative trajectory prediction algorithm that satisfies the time domain and system constraints is proposed. Combining the dual-trajectory independent offset and lateral stability parameter of the TTS, an energy function optimization control parameter was constructed to balance the system trajectory tracking performance and lateral control stability. The experimental results showed good agreement between the predicted trailer trajectory and the collaborative control trajectory, with an average lateral error not exceeding 0.1 m and an average course angle error not exceeding 0.054 rad. This ensures that the dynamic controller designed around the tractor-trailer underactuation system can guarantee the smoothness of the trailer trajectory and the controlling stability of the tractor in saline alkali land.

Design and Optimization of Power Harrow Soil Crushing Components for Coastal Saline–Alkali Land
2025
In China, there are approximately 36.7 million hectares of available saline–alkali land. The quality of land preparation significantly influences the yield of crops grown in saline–alkali soil. However, saline–alkali soil is highly compacted, and, currently, the market lacks land-preparation products specifically tailored to the unique characteristics of saline–alkali land. The soil crushing performance of existing power harrows fails to meet the requirements for high-quality land preparation, thus affecting crop planting yields. Consequently, it is imperative to conduct research on the design and performance improvement of the soil crushing components of power harrows for saline–alkali land. This paper centers on the key soil crushing component, the harrow blade, and conducts research from the perspectives of kinematics and dynamics. Initially, the ranges of key structural and motion parameters are determined, such as the angle of the harrow blade cutting edge, the thickness of the of the harrow blade cutting edge, and the ratio of the circumferential speed to the forward speed. Subsequently, through simulation tests integrating the Discrete Element Method (DEM) and the Box–Behnken Design (BBD), the optimal parameter combination is identified. The impact of the forward speed and the rotational speed of the vertical-shaft rotor on soil disturbance is analyzed. The relationship between soil disturbance and soil heaping is explored, and an optimal forward speed of around 6 km/h is determined. Field tests are conducted to verify the cause of soil heaping. The test results show that the soil crushing rates are all above 85%, with an average soil crushing rate of 88.66%. These test results have achieved the predetermined objectives and meet the design requirements.

Design and Experimental Research on a Chisel-Type Variable Hierarchical Deep Fertilization Device Suitable for Saline–Alkali Soil
2025
In China, there are around 36.7 million hectares of saline–alkali lands that hold utilization potential. Precision fertilization stands as a vital measure for enhancing the quality of saline–alkali soil and promoting a significant increase in crop yields. The performance of the fertilization device is a decisive factor in determining the effectiveness of fertilization. To optimize the fertilizer utilization rate in coastal saline–alkali soils and substantially reduce fertilizer waste, it is imperative to transport fertilizers to the deep soil layers and execute layered variable-rate fertilization. In light of this, a chisel-type variable-rate layered electronically controlled deep-fertilization device specifically designed for saline–alkali soils has been developed. Extensive experimental research on its fertilization performance has also been carried out. Drawing on the principles of soil dynamics, this paper meticulously investigates the structures of key components and the operating parameters of the fertilization device. Key parameters such as the penetration angle of the fertilizer shovel, the penetration clearance angle, the curvature of the shovel handle, the angle between the fertilizer baffle and the fertilizer pipe wall, the angle between the fertilizer pipe and the horizontal plane, and the forward speed are precisely determined. Moreover, this study explores the quantitative relationship between the fertilizer discharge amount of the fertilizer applicator and the effective working width. Simultaneously, this research mainly focuses on analyzing the impact of the forward speed on the operational effect of layered and variable-rate fertilization. Through a series of field experiments, it was conclusively determined that the optimal fertilization effect was attained when the forward speed was set at 6 km/h. Under this condition, the average deviation in the fertilization amount was merely 2.76%, and the average coefficients of variation in the fertilizer amount uniformity in each soil layer were 7.62, 6.32, 6.06, and 5.65%, respectively. Evidently, the experimental results not only successfully met the pre-set objectives, but also fully satisfied the design requirements. Undoubtedly, this article can offer valuable methodological references for the research and development of fertilization devices tailored for diverse crops cultivated on saline–alkali lands.

Ferroptosis is a type of adaptive cell death driven by cellular metabolism and iron‐dependent lipid peroxidation. Though multiple genes (including SLC7A11 and GPX4) have been demonstrated to play key roles in ferroptosis, little is known about the epigenetic regulation of this process. Here, we report that KDM3B, a histone H3 lysine 9 demethylase, can protect against ferroptosis induced by Erastin, an inhibitor of SLC7A11. KDM3B overexpression in HT‐1080 cells results in decreased histone H3 lysine 9 methylation. Furthermore, KDM3B upregulates the expression of SLC7A11 through cooperation with the transcription factor ATF4. In summary, we identify here KDM3B as a potential epigenetic regulator of ferroptosis. KDM3B protects cells from Erastin‐induced ferroptosis through transcriptional upregulation of SLC7A11 via interaction with ATF4. Therefore, small molecule targeting of KDM3B can resensitize Erastin‐resistant cancer cells to ferroptosis induction and thus may have potential as a possible strategy to induce ferroptosis‐associated cancer cell death.

Honokiol Induces Ferroptosis by Upregulating HMOX1 in Acute Myeloid Leukemia Cells
2022
Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is one of the malignant hematological cancers with high mortality. Finding a more effective and readily available treatment is of the utmost importance. Here, we aimed to identify the anti-leukemia effect of a natural small molecule compound honokiol on a panel of AML cell lines, including THP-1, U-937, and SKM-1, and explored honokiol’s potential biological pathways and mechanisms. The results showed that honokiol decreased the viability of the targeted AML cells, induced their cell cycle arrest at G0/G1 phase, and inhibited their colony-formation capacity. Honokiol also triggers a noncanonical ferroptosis pathway in THP-1 and U-937 cells by upregulating the level of intracellular lipid peroxide and HMOX1 significantly. Subsequent studies verified that HMOX1 was a critical target in honokiol-induced ferroptosis. These results reveal that honokiol is an effective anti-leukemia agent in AML cell lines and may be a potential ferroptosis activator in AML.

First-line systemic therapeutic options for advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) are limited. In this multicenter, double-blind phase 3 trial, a total of 551 patients with previously untreated, locally advanced or metastatic ESCC and PD-L1 combined positive score of ≥1 were randomized (2:1) to receive serplulimab (an anti-PD-1 antibody; 3 mg/kg) or placebo (on day 1), plus cisplatin (50 mg/m
2
) (on day 1) and continuous infusion of 5-fluorouracil (1,200 mg/m
2
) (on days 1 and 2), once every 2 weeks. The study met the primary endpoints. At the prespecified final analysis of progression-free survival (PFS) assessed by the blinded independent radiological review committee, serplulimab plus chemotherapy significantly improved PFS compared with placebo plus chemotherapy (median PFS of 5.8 months and 5.3 months, respectively; hazard ratio, 0.60; 95% confidence interval, 0.48–0.75;
P
< 0.0001). At the prespecified interim analysis of overall survival (OS), serplulimab plus chemotherapy also significantly prolonged OS compared with placebo plus chemotherapy (median OS of 15.3 months and 11.8 months, respectively; hazard ratio, 0.68; 95% confidence interval, 0.53–0.87;
P
= 0.0020). Grade 3 or higher treatment-related adverse events occurred in 201 (53%) and 81 (48%) patients in the serplulimab plus chemotherapy group and the placebo plus chemotherapy group, respectively. Serplulimab plus chemotherapy administered every 2 weeks significantly improved PFS and OS in patients with previously untreated, PD-L1-positive advanced ESCC, with a manageable safety profile. This study is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov (
NCT03958890
).
The combination of anti-PD-1 treatment with cisplatin and 5-fluorouracil in patients with previously untreated, PD-L1-positive esophageal squamous cell carcinoma improved progression-free survival and overall survival.

Background
Evidence-based nursing (EBN) is widely recognized as a cornerstone for improving the quality and safety of nursing care. Effective leadership is critical to the successful implementation of EBN; however, there is limited empirical understanding of the leadership competencies required to support EBN in complex healthcare systems, particularly in the Chinese context. This study aimed to identify and conceptualize the core competencies of effective leadership for EBN in China, drawing on leadership theory from the management sciences.
Methods
A qualitative study design was employed using focus group discussions. Eight focus groups were conducted across multiple regions in China, involving nursing leaders, frontline nurses, and academic experts with experience in EBN practice, management, and education. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis, guided by an established leadership behavior framework encompassing task-oriented, relation-oriented, change-oriented, and external-oriented leadership behaviors.
Results
The analysis identified a comprehensive set of competencies required for effective EBN leadership across four interrelated dimensions. Task-oriented leadership competencies included defining EBN goals, planning context-sensitive initiatives, monitoring EBN implementation, and solving clinical problems with evidence. Relation-oriented leadership emphasized providing emotional support, fostering professional development, recognizing contributions, and empowering nurses to take ownership of EBN projects. Change-oriented leadership competencies focused on advocating for EBN integration, promoting innovation, and facilitating continuous learning within the team. Finally, external-oriented leadership involved networking with external experts, monitoring emerging evidence, and representing nursing in institutional decision-making.
Conclusions
This study develops a theoretically grounded and context-sensitive framework of effective leadership competencies for evidence-based nursing in China. The findings demonstrate that effective EBN leadership extends beyond individual research knowledge to encompass relational, organizational, and system-level competencies. Although rooted in the Chinese healthcare context, the framework offers transferable insights for other countries facing similar organizational constraints and implementation challenges. The framework provides a practical foundation for nursing leadership development, education, and policy aimed at strengthening the implementation of EBN practice.

Effects of Long-Term (17 Years) Nitrogen Input on Soil Bacterial Community in Sanjiang Plain: The Largest Marsh Wetland in China
2023
Increased nitrogen (N) input from natural factors and human activities may negatively impact the health of marsh wetlands. However, the understanding of how exogenous N affects the ecosystem remains limited. We selected the soil bacterial community as the index of ecosystem health and performed a long-term N input experiment, including four N levels of 0, 6, 12, and 24 gN·m−2·a−1 (denoted as CK, C1, C2, and C3, respectively). The results showed that a high-level N (24 gN·m−2·a−1) input could significantly reduce the Chao index and ACE index for the bacterial community and inhibit some dominant microorganisms. The RDA results indicated that TN and NH4+ were the critical factors influencing the soil microbial community under the long-term N input. Moreover, the long-term N input was found to significantly reduce the abundance of Azospirillum and Desulfovibrio, which were typical N-fixing microorganisms. Conversely, the long-term N input was found to significantly increase the abundance of Nitrosospira and Clostridium_sensu_stricto_1, which were typical nitrifying and denitrifying microorganisms. Increased soil N content has been suggested to inhibit the N fixation function of the wetland and exert a positive effect on the processes of nitrification and denitrification in the wetland ecosystem. Our research can be used to improve strategies to protect wetland health.
