Assembly and Transfer of Iron–Sulfur Clusters in the Plastid
Iron-Sulfur (Fe-S) clusters and proteins are essential to many growth and developmental processes. In plants, they exist in the plastids, mitochondria, cytosol, and nucleus. Six types of Fe-S clusters are found in the plastid: classic 2Fe-2S, NEET-type 2Fe-2S, Rieske-type 2Fe-2S, 3Fe-4S, 4Fe-4S, and siroheme 4Fe-4S. Classic, NEET-type, and Rieske-type 2Fe-2S clusters have the same 2Fe-2S core; similarly, common and siroheme 4Fe-4S clusters have the same 4Fe-4S core. Plastidial Fe-S clusters are assembled by the sulfur mobilization (SUF) pathway, which contains cysteine desulfurase (EC 2.8.1.7), sulfur transferase (EC 2.8.1.3), Fe-S scaffold complex, and Fe-S carrier proteins. The plastidial cysteine desulfurase-sulfur transferase-Fe-S-scaffold complex system is responsible for assembly of all plastidial Fe-S clusters. However, different types of Fe-S clusters are transferred to recipient proteins via respective Fe-S carrier proteins. This review focuses on recent discoveries on the molecular functions of different assembly and transfer factors involved in the plastidial SUF pathway. It also discusses potential points for regulation of the SUF pathway, relationships among the plastidial, mitochondrial, and cytosolic Fe-S assembly and transfer pathways, as well as several open questions about the carrier proteins for Rieske-type 2Fe-2S, NEET-type 2Fe-2S, and 3F-4S clusters.

Versatile full-colour nanopainting enabled by a pixelated plasmonic metasurface
The growing interest to develop modern digital displays and colour printing has driven the advancement of colouration technologies with remarkable speed. In particular, metasurface-based structural colouration shows a remarkable high colour saturation, wide gamut palette, chiaroscuro presentation and polarization tunability. However, previous approaches cannot simultaneously achieve all these features. Here, we design and experimentally demonstrate a surface-relief plasmonic metasurface consisting of shallow nanoapertures that enable the independent manipulation of colour hue, saturation and brightness by individually varying the geometric dimensions and orientation of the nanoapertures. We fabricate microscale artworks using a reusable template-stripping technique that features photorealistic and stereoscopic impressions. In addition, through the meticulous arrangement of differently oriented nanoapertures, kaleidoscopic information states can be decrypted by particular combinations of incident and reflected polarized light. A plasmonic metasurface for full-colour nanopainting simultaneously achieves a chiaroscuro presentation, wide-gamut palette, high saturation and dynamic colour tunability.

طلب الإمبراطور اليشمي من الحكيم الأكبر أن يساعده في إخضاع القرد وترويضه بعد أن أحدث الفوضى في القصر السماوي، أقام الحكيم الأكبر جبل العناصر الخمسة وسجن القرد تحته. وبعد خمسة قرون، كلف الإمبراطور تاي تسونغ من أسرة تانغ الراهب المشهور سان تسانغ، بجلب الكتب المقدسة من الفردوس الغربي. وأثناء رحلته إلى الغرب، أنقذ سان تسانغ القرد وحرره من سجنه، وبعد أن أنارت روح الخير قوان بن القرد، تحلى بالإيمان وصار تلميذا لسان تسانغ ورافقه في رحلته لحراسته في الطريق، وخلال رحلتهما هاجمهما قطاع طرق أرادوا سرقتهما، فضربهم القرد بعصاه الحديدية وقتلهم جميعا وأخذ أغراضهم، فوبخه سان ،تسانغ فاستشاط القرد غضبا لأنه لا يتحمل أن يوبخه أحد، وترك سان تسانغ وذهب لقصر الملك التنين في البحر الشرقي، لكن بعد أن نصحه الملك التنين عاد القرد مرة أخرى إلى معلمه سان تسانغ، وللسيطرة على القرد طلبت قوان ين من سان تسانغ أن يضع طوقا ذهبيا على رأس القرد، ويتلو تعويذة تضييق الطوق لمعاقبته إذا عصى الأوامر. وبالفعل بعد أن عاد القرد مرة أخرى ووضع القبعة على رأسه، وتلا المعلم التعويذة، فتلوى القرد ألما وتعهد أن يحسن التصرف ويطيع الأوامر. روضت قوان بن أيضا تنينا أبيض وحولته إلى حصان ليحمل سان تسانغ في رحلته.
Beneficial effects of endophytic fungi colonization on plants
Due to increasingly limited water resources, diminishing farmland acreage, and potentially negative effects of climate change, an urgent need exists to improve agricultural productivity to feed the ever-growing population. Plants interact with microorganisms at all trophic levels, adapting growth, developmental, and defense responses within a complicated network of community members. Endophytic fungi have been widely reported for their ability to aid in the defense of their host plants. Currently, many reports focus on the application of endophytic fungi with the capability to produce valuable bioactive molecules, while others focus on endophytic fungi as biocontrol agents. Plant responses upon endophytic fungi colonization are also good for the immune system of the plant. In this paper, the possible mechanisms between endophytic fungi and their hosts were reviewed. During long-term evolution, plants have acquired numerous beneficial strategies in response to endophytic fungi colonization. The interaction of endophytic fungi with plants modulates the relationship between plants and both biotic and abiotic stresses. It has previously been reported that this endophytic relationship confers additional defensive mechanisms on the modulation of the plant immune system, as the result of the manipulation of direct antimicrobial metabolites such as alkaloids to indirect phytohormones, jasmonic acid, or salicylic acid. Furthermore, plants have evolved to cope with combinations of stresses and experiments are required to address specific questions related to these multiple stresses. This review summarizes our current understanding of the intrinsic mechanism to better utilize these benefits for plant growth and disease resistance. It contributes new ideas to increase plant fitness and crop productivity.

ذهب سان تسانغ وتلاميذه إلى جبل شيتوه، وتنكر الوزير جين شينغ في هيئة رجل مسن وحذرهم من الشياطين الثلاثة، فذهب وو كونغ يتقصى الأمر، ودعا با جبه ليذهبا للقتال فابتلعهما الشيطان الأسد، انتهز القرد وو كونغ الفرصة لربط حبل في بطن الوحش الذي تألم كثيرا. لم يرض الشيطان الفيل والأمر، وطلب من القرد القتال وهزم أيضا، فاضطر للموافقة على عبور الراهب سان تسانغ الجبل على محفة فكر الشيطان النسر في خطة جديدة، ودارت معاركة كبيرة، أسر فيها المعلم وتلاميذه. لكن القرد استطاع الهرب، وذهب إلى جبل الأرواح لدعوة الحكيم الأكبر. وبمساعدته نجحوا في إخضاع الشيطان الأسد والشيطان الفيل وحولوهما إلى أسد وفيل، ثم أخضعوا الشيطان النسر وواصلوا رحلتهم إلى الغرب.
Circularly polarized luminescence in chiral orientationally ordered soft matter systems
Circularly polarized luminescent (CPL) materials have received significant attention in the field of fundamental science recently. These materials offer substantial advancement of technological applications, such as optical data storage, displays, and quantum communication. Various strategies have been proposed in self‐assembled materials consisting of inorganic, organic, and hybrid systems, particularly in the chiral orientationally ordered soft matter systems (e.g., chiral liquid crystals (LCs) and LC polymers). However, developing scientific approaches to achieve the pronounced and steerable circularly polarized light emission remains challenging. Herein, we present a comprehensive review on the recent development of CPL materials based on chiral LCs, including thermotropic LCs (cholesteric LCs and bent‐core LCs), lyotropic LCs (nanocellulose LCs and polyacetylene‐based LCs), and LC polymers (cholesteric LC‐based polymers, helical nanofibers, and helical network). In addition, the fundamental mechanisms, design principles, and potential applications based on these chiral LCs and LC polymers in soft matter systems are systematically reviewed. This review summarizes with a prospect on the latent challenges, which can strengthen our understanding of the basic principles of CPL in chiral orientationally ordered soft matter systems and provide a new insight into the progress in several fields, such as chemistry, materials science, optics, electronics, and biology. Representative chiral liquid crystals (LCs) with characteristics of circularly polarized luminescence, including cholesteric LCs, bent‐core LCs, lyotropic LCs, and LC polymers.

The Application of Whole Cell-Based Biosensors for Use in Environmental Analysis and in Medical Diagnostics
Various whole cell-based biosensors have been reported in the literature for the last 20 years and these reports have shown great potential for their use in the areas of pollution detection in environmental and in biomedical diagnostics. Unlike other reviews of this growing field, this mini-review argues that: (1) the selection of reporter genes and their regulatory proteins are directly linked to the performance of celllular biosensors; (2) broad enhancements in microelectronics and information technologies have also led to improvements in the performance of these sensors; (3) their future potential is most apparent in their use in the areas of medical diagnostics and in environmental monitoring; and (4) currently the most promising work is focused on the better integration of cellular sensors with nano and micro scaled integrated chips. With better integration it may become practical to see these cells used as (5) real-time portable devices for diagnostics at the bedside and for remote environmental toxin detection and this in situ application will make the technology commonplace and thus as unremarkable as other ubiquitous technologies.
