Information-Processing Entropy and Heterogeneous Sentiment Reaction Windows: Evidence from S&P 500 Stocks
This study examines the heterogeneous timing of market responses to financial news and its implications for informational uncertainty in price-adjustment dynamics. Empirically, stocks do not incorporate positive and negative sentiment at the same speed; instead, they exhibit asset-specific delays that stem from differences in investor attention, cognitive processing, and microstructural constraints. These unequal reaction windows increase the entropy of the information-transmission process, as sentiment shocks diffuse across assets in a dispersed and temporally misaligned manner. To quantify this heterogeneity, we develop a framework that integrates FinBERT-based sentiment classification, Bollinger Bands signal identification, and a Genetic Algorithm (GA) to estimate stock-specific sentiment reaction windows. Using S&P 500 data from 2021 to 2024, with 2022 to 2024 reserved for out-of-sample validation, the results show that GA-derived windows capture actual price-adjustment lags more accurately and significantly improve trading performance compared with fixed-window and technical-only benchmarks. In particular, incorporating news headline sentiment into the Bollinger Bands framework increases the win rate by approximately 5% over the testing period and leads to a significant improvement in overall returns. These findings demonstrate that the assimilation of sentiment is a time-dependent and non-uniform process shaped by behavioral and structural factors, offering new evidence that informational entropy-arising from delayed and heterogeneous reactions-plays a meaningful role in market efficiency and return dynamics.
Abscisic Acid Is a General Negative Regulator of Arabidopsis Axillary Bud Growth
Branching is an important process controlled by intrinsic programs and by environmental signals transduced by a variety of plant hormones. Abscisic acid (ABA) was previously shown to mediate Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) branching responses to the ratio of red light (R) to far-red light (FR; an indicator of competition) by suppressing bud outgrowth from lower rosette positions under low R:FR. However, the role of ABA in regulating branching more generally was not investigated. This study shows that ABA restricts lower bud outgrowth and promotes correlative inhibition under both high and low R:FR. ABA was elevated in buds exhibiting delayed outgrowth resulting from bud position and low R:FR and decreased in elongating buds. ABA was reduced in lower buds of hyperbranching mutants deficient in auxin signaling (AUXIN RESISTANT1), MORE AXILLARY BRANCHING (MAX) signaling (MAX2), and BRANCHED1 (BRC1) function, and partial suppression of branch elongation in these mutants by exogenous ABA suggested that ABA may act downstream of these components. BudBRC1expression was not altered by exogenous ABA, consistent with a downstream function for ABA. However, the expression of genes encoding the indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) biosynthesis enzymeTRYPTOPHAN AMINOTRANSFERASE OF ARABIDOPSIS1, the auxin transporterPIN-FORMED1, and the cell cycle genesCYCLIN A2;1andPROLIFERATING CELL NUCLEAR ANTIGEN1in buds was suppressed by ABA, suggesting that it may inhibit bud growth in part by suppressing elements of the cell cycle machinery and bud-autonomous IAA biosynthesis and transport. ABA was found to suppress bud IAA accumulation, thus confirming this aspect of its action.
Comparison of chloroplast genomes and phylogenomics in the Ficus sarmentosa complex (Moraceae)
Due to maternal inheritance and minimal rearrangement, the chloroplast genome is an important genetic resource for evolutionary studies. However, the evolutionary dynamics and phylogenetic performance of chloroplast genomes in closely related species are poorly characterized, particularly in taxonomically complex and species-rich groups. The taxonomically unresolved Ficus sarmentosa species complex (Moraceae) comprises approximately 20 taxa with unclear genetic background. In this study, we explored the evolutionary dynamics, hotspot loci, and phylogenetic performance of thirteen chloroplast genomes (including eleven newly obtained and two downloaded from NCBI) representing the F . sarmentosa complex. Their sequence lengths, IR boundaries, repeat sequences, and codon usage were compared. Both sequence length and IR boundaries were found to be highly conserved. All four categories of long repeat sequences were found across all 13 chloroplast genomes, with palindromic and forward sequences being the most common. The number of simple sequence repeat (SSR) loci varied from 175 ( F . dinganensis and F . howii ) to 190 ( F . polynervis ), with the dinucleotide motif appearing the most frequently. Relative synonymous codon usage (RSCU) analysis indicated that codons ending with A/T were prior to those ending with C/T. The majority of coding sequence regions were found to have undergone negative selection with the exception of ten genes ( accD , clpP , ndhK , rbcL , rpl20 , rpl22 , rpl23 , rpoC1 , rps15 , and rps4 ) which exhibited potential positive selective signatures. Five hypervariable genic regions ( rps15 , ycf1 , rpoA , ndhF , and rpl22 ) and five hypervariable intergenic regions ( trnH-GUG - psbA , rpl32 - trnL-UAG , psbZ - trnG-GCC , trnK-UUU - rps 16 and ndhF - rpl32 ) were identified. Overall, phylogenomic analysis based on 123 Ficus chloroplast genomes showed promise for studying the evolutionary relationships in Ficus , despite cyto-nuclear discordance. Furthermore, based on the phylogenetic performance of the F . sarmentosa complex and F . auriculata complex, the chloroplast genome also exhibited a promising phylogenetic resolution in closely related species.
Improves symptoms and urinary biomarkers in refractory interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome patients randomized to extracorporeal shock wave therapy versus placebo
Extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) has been shown to improve symptoms in patients with interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS); however, there is a lack of objective evidence. We measured change of urinary biomarker levels in 25 patients with IC/BPS received ESWT or placebo once a week for 4 weeks. Urines were collected from participants at baseline, 4 and 12 weeks post treatment. A representative 41 inflammatory growth factors, cytokines, and chemokines in urine were measured using a MILLIPLEX immunoassay kit. Symptom bother was assessed by O’Leary-Sant symptom scores (OSS), and visual analog scale (VAS) for pain. The ESWT group exhibited a significant reduction in the OSS and VAS compared to the placebo group 4 weeks post-treatment ( P  < 0.05), and the effects were persistent at 12 weeks. The difference in urinary markers change in ESWT versus placebo was P  = 0.054 for IL4, P  = 0.013 for VEGF, and P  = 0.039 for IL9 at 4 weeks. The change of urine biomarker was not significant in other biomarkers or all the measured proteins at 12 weeks. The current data suggest that IL4, IL9, and VEGF mediation may be involved in its pathophysiologic mechanisms and response to LESW treatment.
Dynamic assembly of DNA-ceria nanocomplex in living cells generates artificial peroxisome
Intracellular accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) leads to oxidative stress, which is closely associated with many diseases. Introducing artificial organelles to ROS-imbalanced cells is a promising solution, but this route requires nanoscale particles for efficient cell uptake and micro-scale particles for long-term cell retention, which meets a dilemma. Herein, we report a deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA)-ceria nanocomplex-based dynamic assembly system to realize the intracellular in-situ construction of artificial peroxisomes (AP). The DNA-ceria nanocomplex is synthesized from branched DNA with i-motif structure that responds to the acidic lysosomal environment, triggering transformation from the nanoscale into bulk-scale AP. The initial nanoscale of the nanocomplex facilitates cellular uptake, and the bulk-scale of AP supports cellular retention. AP exhibits enzyme-like catalysis activities, serving as ROS eliminator, scavenging ROS by decomposing H 2 O 2 into O 2 and H 2 O. In living cells, AP efficiently regulates intracellular ROS level and resists GSH consumption, preventing cells from redox dyshomeostasis. With the protection of AP, cytoskeleton integrity, mitochondrial membrane potential, calcium concentration and ATPase activity are maintained under oxidative stress, and thus the energy of cell migration is preserved. As a result, AP inhibits cell apoptosis, reducing cell mortality through ROS elimination. Artificial organelles can potentially be used support cellular functions, but there is a trade-off between cellular uptake and cellular retention. Here, the authors report the dynamic assembly of DNA-ceria-based artificial peroxisomes in cells, and show they can be used to reduce intracellular ROS.
An Efficient Authenticated Key Agreement Scheme Supporting Privacy-Preservation for Internet of Drones Communications
In recent years, due to the rapid development of Internet of things (IoTs), various physical things (objects) in IoTs are smart enough to make their own decisions without the involvement of humans. The smart devices embedded in a drone can sense, collect, and transmit real-time data back to the controller from a designated environment via wireless communication technologies. The mobility, flexibility, reliability and energy efficiency of drones makes them more widely used in IoT environments such as commercial, military, entertainment applications, traffic surveillance and aerial photography. In a generalized IoD architecture, we have communications among the drones in a flying zone, among the drones and the control server, and also among the drones and authorized user. IoD still has many critical issues that need to be addressed, such as data access being carried out through a public channel and battery operated drones. To address these concerns in IoD communications, in this paper, an efficient authentication and secure communication scheme with privacy preservation is proposed and it only uses secure one-way hash function and bitwise XOR operations when control server, drone and user mutually authenticate each other. After the successful authentication, both IoD-based participants can agree on a common session key to secure the subsequent communication messages. The widely accepted ProVerif and BAN logic analysis have been used to assure that the proposed scheme is provably secure against existing well-known security attacks and ensures privacy. Finally, a comparative analysis is presented to demonstrate the proposed scheme preserves efficiency when compared to existing competitive schemes.
Treatment benefit of upfront autologous stem cell transplantation for newly diagnosed multiple myeloma: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Background Upfront high-dose therapy (HDT) followed by autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) remains a profitable strategy for newly diagnosed multiple myeloma (MM) patients in the context of novel agents. However, current knowledge demonstrates a discrepancy between progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) benefit with HDT/ASCT. Methods We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis that included both randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and observational studies evaluating the benefit of upfront HDT/ASCT published during 2012 to 2023. Further sensitivity analysis and meta-regression were also performed. Results Among the 22 enrolled studies, 7 RCTs and 9 observational studies had a low or moderate risk of bias, while the remaining 6 observational studies had a serious risk of bias. HDT/ASCT revealed advantages in complete response (CR) with an odds ratio (OR) of 1.24 and 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.02 ~ 1.51, PFS with a hazard ratio (HR) of 0.53 (95% CI 0.46 ~ 0.62), and OS with an HR of 0.58 (95% CI 0.50 ~ 0.69). Sensitivity analysis excluding the studies with serious risk of bias and trim-and-fill imputation fundamentally confirmed these findings. Older age, increased percentage of patients with International Staging System (ISS) stage III or high-risk genetic features, decreased proteasome inhibitor (PI) or combined PI/ immunomodulatory drugs (IMiD) utilization, and decreased follow-up duration or percentage of males were significantly related to a greater survival advantage with HDT/ASCT. Conclusions Upfront ASCT remains a beneficial treatment for newly diagnosed MM patients in the period of novel agents. Its advantage is especially acute in high-risk MM populations, such as elderly individuals, males, those with ISS stage III or high-risk genetic features, but is attenuated with PI or combined PI/IMiD utilization, contributing to divergent survival outcomes.
Metabolic Syndrome and Overactive Bladder Syndrome May Share Common Pathophysiologies
Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is defined by a group of cardiovascular risk factors, including impaired glucose tolerance, central obesity, hypertension, and dyslipidemia. Overactive bladder (OAB) syndrome consists of symptoms such as urinary urgency, frequency, and nocturia with or without urge incontinence. The high prevalences of metabolic syndrome (MetS) and overactive bladder (OAB) worldwide affect quality of life and cause profound negative impacts on the social economy. Accumulated evidence suggests that MetS might contribute to the underlying mechanisms for developing OAB, and MetS-associated OAB could be a subtype of OAB. However, how could these two syndromes interact with each other? Based on results of animal studies and observations in epidemiological studies, we summarized the common pathophysiologies existing between MetS and OAB, including autonomic and peripheral neuropathies, chronic ischemia, proinflammatory status, dysregulation of nutrient-sensing pathways (e.g., insulin resistance at the bladder mucosa and excessive succinate intake), and the probable role of dysbiosis. Since the MetS-associated OAB is a subtype of OAB with distinctive pathophysiologies, the regular and non-specific medications, such as antimuscarinics, beta-3 agonist, and botulinum toxin injection, might lead to unsatisfying results. Understanding the pathophysiologies of MetS-associated OAB might benefit future studies exploring novel biomarkers for diagnosis and therapeutic targets on both MetS and OAB.
An Advanced Temporal Credential-Based Security Scheme with Mutual Authentication and Key Agreement for Wireless Sensor Networks
Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) can be quickly and randomly deployed in any harsh and unattended environment and only authorized users are allowed to access reliable sensor nodes in WSNs with the aid of gateways (GWNs). Secure authentication models among the users, the sensor nodes and GWN are important research issues for ensuring communication security and data privacy in WSNs. In 2013, Xue et al. proposed a temporal-credential-based mutual authentication and key agreement scheme for WSNs. However, in this paper, we point out that Xue et al.’s scheme cannot resist stolen-verifier, insider, off-line password guessing, smart card lost problem and many logged-in users’ attacks and these security weaknesses make the scheme inapplicable to practical WSN applications. To tackle these problems, we suggest a simple countermeasure to prevent proposed attacks while the other merits of Xue et al.’s authentication scheme are left unchanged.
