Organic emitters with persistent phosphorescence have shown potential application in optoelectronic devices. However, rational design and phosphorescence tuning are still challenging. Here, a series of metal-free luminophores without heavy atoms and carbonyl groups from commercial/lab-synthesized carbazole and benzene were synthesized to realize tunable molecular emission from fluorescence to phosphorescence by simply substituent variation. All the molecules emit blue fluorescence in both solution and solid state. Upon removal of excitation source, the fluorinated luminophores show obvious phosphorescence. The lab-synthesized carbazole based molecules exhibit a huge lifetime difference to the commercially purchased ones due to the existence of isomer in the latter samples. The small energy gap between singlet and triplet state and low reorganization energy help enhance intersystem crossing to contribute to a more competitive radiative process from triplet to ground state. Blue and white organic light-emitting devices are fabricated by using fluorinated luminophore as emitting layer.
Though organic emitters with room temperature phosphorescence (RTP) are attractive for various applications, realizing highly efficient and long lifetime emission remains a challenge. Here, the authors report the role of push-pull electronic effects on emission for organic RTP emitters.

Metal-organic framework membranes with single-atomic centers for photocatalytic CO2 and O2 reduction
The demand for sustainable energy has motivated the development of artificial photosynthesis. Yet the catalyst and reaction interface designs for directly fixing permanent gases (e.g. CO
2
, O
2
, N
2
) into liquid fuels are still challenged by slow mass transfer and sluggish catalytic kinetics at the gas-liquid-solid boundary. Here, we report that gas-permeable metal-organic framework (MOF) membranes can modify the electronic structures and catalytic properties of metal single-atoms (SAs) to promote the diffusion, activation, and reduction of gas molecules (e.g. CO
2,
O
2
) and produce liquid fuels under visible light and mild conditions. With Ir SAs as active centers, the defect-engineered MOF (e.g. activated NH
2
-UiO-66) particles can reduce CO
2
to HCOOH with an apparent quantum efficiency (AQE) of 2.51% at 420 nm on the gas-liquid-solid reaction interface. With promoted gas diffusion at the porous gas-solid interfaces, the gas-permeable SA/MOF membranes can directly convert humid CO
2
gas into HCOOH with a near-unity selectivity and a significantly increased AQE of 15.76% at 420 nm. A similar strategy can be applied to the photocatalytic O

-to-H

O

conversions, suggesting the wide applicability of our catalyst and reaction interface designs.
Photoreduction of permanent gas faces challenges in reactant diffusion and activation at the three-phase interface. Here the authors showed porous metal-organic framework membranes decorated by metal single atoms can boost the photoreduction of CO
2
and O

at the high-throughput gas-solid interface.

Systemic inflammation response index as a clinical outcome evaluating tool and prognostic indicator for hospitalized stroke patients: a systematic review and meta-analysis
2023
Background
Stroke, which is the main element of cerebrovascular disease (CVD), has become the foremost reason for death and disability on a global scale. The systemic inflammation response index (SIRI), a newly developed and comprehensive indicator, has demonstrated promise in forecasting clinical results for diverse ailments. Nevertheless, the uncertainty surrounding the assessment and prediction of clinical outcomes for stroke patients by SIRI persists, and the conflicting findings from the limited studies conducted on this matter further complicate the situation. Consequently, we performed a thorough systematic review and meta-analysis to explore the correlation between SIRI and the clinical results in individuals suffering from stroke.
Methods
This research was registered in PROSPERO and carried out following the PRISMA guidelines. A thorough investigation was carried out on PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and Scopus databases. Furthermore, we conducted a manual search in Chinese databases, such as China national Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), WanFang, VIP, and China Biology Medicine (CBM). We assessed the potential for bias in the studies included by utilizing the Newcastle–Ottawa Scale (NOS) tool. Adverse clinical outcomes were the main focus of the study, with secondary endpoints including mortality, the predictive value of SIRI, SIRI values across various endpoints, and clinical parameters associated with subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) in relation to low and high SIRI group.
Results
Following rigorous evaluation, a grand total of 22 investigations, encompassing a populace of 12,737 individuals, were considered suitable for incorporation in the final analysis. The findings from our meta-analysis indicate a strong and consistent correlation between elevated SIRI levels and adverse functional outcomes, irrespective of the method used to evaluate unfavorable outcomes. Furthermore, increased SIRI values have a strong correlation with mortality rates in both the short and long term. Besides, SIRI is a useful indicator of the severity of SAH. SIRI demonstrates strong predictive ability in identifying unfavorable outcomes and stroke-related pneumonia (SAP), as higher SIRI values are typically linked to negative endpoints. Nevertheless, the meta-analysis indicated that there was no significant increase in the risk of early neurological deterioration (END) and acute hydrocephalus (AHC) in high SIRI group when comparing to low SIRI.
Conclusion
This study could potentially pave the way for groundbreaking insights into the relationship between SIRI and stroke patient outcomes, as it appears to be the first meta-analysis to explore this association. Given the critical role of the inflammatory response in stroke recovery, closely monitoring patients with high SIRI levels could represent a promising strategy for mitigating brain damage post-stroke. Thus, further investigation into SIRI and its impact on clinical outcomes is essential. While our initial findings offer valuable insights into this area, continued research is necessary to fully elucidate the potential of SIRI, ideally through dynamic monitoring and large-scale, multi-center studies. Ultimately, this research has the potential to inform clinical decision-making and improve patient outcomes following stroke.

Jatropha curcas is thought to be a promising biofuel material, but its yield is restricted by a low ratio of instaminate/staminate flowers (1/10-1/30). Furthermore, valuable information about flower sex differentiation in this plant is scarce. To explore the mechanism of this process in J. curcas, transcriptome profiling of flower development was carried out, and certain genes related with sex differentiation were obtained through digital gene expression analysis of flower buds from different phases of floral development.
After Illumina sequencing and clustering, 57,962 unigenes were identified. A total of 47,423 unigenes were annotated, with 85 being related to carpel and stamen differentiation, 126 involved in carpel and stamen development, and 592 functioning in the later development stage for the maturation of staminate or instaminate flowers. Annotation of these genes provided comprehensive information regarding the sex differentiation of flowers, including the signaling system, hormone biosynthesis and regulation, transcription regulation and ubiquitin-mediated proteolysis. A further expression pattern analysis of 15 sex-related genes using quantitative real-time PCR revealed that gibberellin-regulated protein 4-like protein and AMP-activated protein kinase are associated with stamen differentiation, whereas auxin response factor 6-like protein, AGAMOUS-like 20 protein, CLAVATA1, RING-H2 finger protein ATL3J, auxin-induced protein 22D, and r2r3-myb transcription factor contribute to embryo sac development in the instaminate flower. Cytokinin oxidase, Unigene28, auxin repressed-like protein ARP1, gibberellin receptor protein GID1 and auxin-induced protein X10A are involved in both stages mentioned above. In addition to its function in the differentiation and development of the stamens, the gibberellin signaling pathway also functions in embryo sac development for the instaminate flower. The auxin signaling pathway also participates in both stamen development and embryo sac development.
Our transcriptome data provide a comprehensive gene expression profile for flower sex differentiation in Jatropha curcas, as well as new clues and information for further study in this field.

Epidemiological and clinical characteristics of craniofacial soft tissue injuries in a plastic emergency department in Xi’an, China: a retrospective study of 22887 patients from 2019 to 2023
2025
Objective
This study aims to describe the epidemiological features of craniofacial soft tissue injuries in a major plastic emergency department in northwest China.
Methods
A retrospective review of emergency medical records (2019-2023) was conducted for craniofacial soft tissue injury patients. Demographic and clinical data were collected and analyzed, stratified by age and with consideration of the COVID-19 period.
Results
A total of 22,887 patients with 24,050 craniofacial soft tissue injuries were included. The mean age was 13.46±15.52 years, with a male to female ratio of 1.57. Collisions were the primary cause of injury (86.5%), and contusion and laceration were the most common types of wounds (97.4%). The most frequent injury locations were the forehead (24.4%), chin (13.8%), cheeks (13.0%), and supercilium (12.3%). Peak visiting times were in April, May, June, September, and October during the year, on weekends during the week, and in the afternoon and evening during the day. The average time interval between injury and hospital visit was 6.17±5.68 hours, with a median time of 4 hours. Epidemiological characteristics were also described for different age subgroups (underage [0-17 years], working-age [18-65 years], elderly [≥65 years]) and within each underage subgroup (infant-toddler [0-2 years], preschool [3-5 years], primary school [6-11 years], secondary school [12-17 years]). The COVID-19 pandemic led to a decrease in the frequency of facial injuries and a change in hospital visiting pattern, but had no apparent influence on other epidemiological characteristics.
Conclusions
This study provides a detailed epidemiological description of craniofacial soft tissue injuries in a large single-center retrospective cohort. The findings can contribute to optimizing treatment strategies, resource allocation, and the development of public health policies.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma is one of the most common cancers with the characteristics of invasion and high mortality. Current forms of prevention remain severe. Scutellaria barbata is widely used in traditional Chinese medicine treatment of various tumors. This study explored the mechanism of Scutellaria barbata in the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma by network pharmacology and bioinformatics. Methods: The active ingredients of Scutellaria barbata and potential targets for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma were collected by network pharmacology. The protein interaction network was constructed to screen the core targets, and the association between the core targets and diseases was further verified by bioinformatics methods. Finally, the active ingredients corresponding to the targets closely related to the disease were screened for AMDE characteristics analysis. Molecular docking of drug-like ingredients with corresponding targets was performed. We used CCK-8 kit to determine the effect of active ingredients on cell proliferation. Results: 29 candidate active ingredients and 461 related targets of Scutellaria barbata were screened. A total of 8238 potential therapeutic targets for hepatocellular carcinoma were indentified. Finally, 373 potential targets for the treatment of HCC were obtained. The active ingredients: wogonin, Rhamnazin, eriodictyol, quercetin, baicalein, and luteolin, etc. The core targets were CDK1, CDK4, SRC, and E2F1. A total of 3056 GO enrichment entries were obtained, and 180 enrichment results were obtained by KEGG pathway analysis. Genes were mainly enriched in PI3K-Akt signaling pathway, IL-17 signaling pathway, TNF signaling pathway, apoptosis pathway, and hepatocellular carcinoma pathway. Molecular docking results showed that the screened compounds had strong binding ability with the corresponding target proteins. CCK8 assays showed that Rhamnazin and Luteolin suppressed the proliferation of HCC cells significantly compared with controls. Conclusion: This study revealed that the mechanism of Scutellaria barbata in the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma may be that the active ingredients inhibit the expression of core genes and block the PI3K-AKT signaling pathway to inhibit the proliferation, and migration and induce apoptosis of cancer cells.

Meanwhile, the “breathable” MOF membrane, optimized by solar-driven interfacial water management, provides high-flux channels to facilitate efficient gas diffusion and rapid methanol desorption and transfer. As a result, we demonstrate over 210 hours of continuous photosynthesis of 0.25 M methanol with unity selectivity, achieving an exceptional methanol productivity of 14.4 millimoles per gram of catalyst per hour.
The photooxidation of CH

Leadership and Collective Action in Promoting Eco-Friendly Farming: A Case Study of Wufeng District, Taichung City, Taiwan
2025
Eco-friendly farming, which minimizes chemical inputs, is critical for environmental sustainability but often exceeds the capacity of individual farmers, requiring collective action. This study examines how leadership facilitates collective adoption of eco-friendly practices in rural contexts, focusing on the Wufeng District Farmers’ Association in central Taiwan. Based on field observations and semi-structured interviews, the research identifies three key drivers: leaders’ shared vision and incentive mechanisms, technical support from the Taiwan Agricultural Research Institute, and effective mobilization by production and marketing group leaders. Leaders functioned as managers and intermediaries, fostering cooperation, managing uncertainty, and encouraging innovation. Consequently, eco-friendly farmland expanded, and value-added products, such as rice-based wine, were developed. The findings highlight that adaptive and entrepreneurial leadership, combining transformational inspiration with transactional accountability, is essential to sustaining collective action and advancing long-term rural sustainability.

We computationally investigated the molecular aggregation effects on the excited state deactivation processes by considering both the direct vibrational relaxation and the S0/S1 surface crossing, that is, the minimum energy conical intersection (MECI). Taking classical AIEgens bis(piperidyl)anthracenes (BPAs) isomers and the substituted silole derivatives as examples, we show that the deformation of MECI always occurs at the atom with greater hole/electron overlap. Besides, the energetic and structural changes of MECI caused by substituent has been investigated. We find that effective substituent such as the addition of the electron‐donating groups, which can polarize the distribution of hole/electron density of molecules, will lead to the pyramidalization deformation of MECI occurring at the substituent position and simultaneously reduce the required energy to reach MECI. And MECI is sterically restricted by the surrounding molecules in solid phase, which remarkably hinders the non‐radiative decay through surface crossing. Through quantitative computational assessments of the fluorescence quantum efficiency for both solution and solid phases, we elucidate the role of MECI and its dependence on the substitutions through pyramidalization deformation, which give rise to the aggregation‐induced emission (AIE) phenomenon for 9,10‐BPA, to aggregation‐enhance emission (AEE) behavior for 1,4‐BPA, and to conventional aggregation‐caused quenching (ACQ) for 1,5‐BPA. We further verify such mechanism for siloles, for which we found that the substitutions do not change the AIE behavior. Our findings render a general molecular design approach to manipulating the aggregation effect for optical emission. The non‐radiative decay of BPAs and silole derivatives are quantitatively investigated via the two‐channel model for nonradiative decay process. The pyramidalization deformation of MECI occurs at position with higher hole–electron overlap density, at which the effective substituent may polarize the density, leading to decreasing of ΔE and pyramidalization deformation of MECI, while such deformation is restricted upon aggregation resulting in the AIE phenomenon.

Surface Defect Detection for Aerospace Aluminum Profiles with Attention Mechanism and Multi-Scale Features
2024
A YOLOv5 aluminum profile defect detection algorithm that integrates attention and multi-scale features is proposed in this paper to address the issues of the low detection accuracy, high false detection rates, and high missed detection rates that are caused by the large-scale variation of surface defects, inconspicuous small defect characteristics, and a lack of concentrated feature information in defect areas. Firstly, an improved CBAM (Channel-Wise Attention Module) convolutional attention module is employed, which effectively focuses on the feature information of defect areas in the aluminum defect dataset with only a small amount of spatial dimension. Secondly, a bidirectional weighted feature fusion network is utilized, incorporating a multi-scale feature fusion network with skip connections to aggregate various high-resolution features, thus enriching the semantic expression of features. Then, new size feature maps that have not been fused are introduced into the detection layer network to improve the detection effect of small target defects. Experimental results indicate that an average detection accuracy (mAP) of 82.6% was achieved by the improved YOLOv5 algorithm on the aluminum surface defect dataset. An improvement of 6.2% over the previous version was observed. The current defect detection requirements of aluminum profile production sites are met by this enhanced algorithm.
