Metal Sulfide S‐Scheme Homojunction for Photocatalytic Selective Phenylcarbinol Oxidation
2024
Metal sulfide‐based homojunction photocatalysts are extensively explored with improved photocatalytic performance. However, the construction of metal sulfide‐based S‐scheme homojunction remains a challenge. Herein, the fabrication of 2D CdIn2S4 nanosheets coated 3D CdIn2S4 octahedra (referred to as 2D/3D n‐CIS/o‐CIS) S‐scheme homojunction photocatalyst is reported by simply adjustment of polyvinyl pyrrolidone amount during the solvothermal synthesis. The formation of S‐scheme homojunction within n‐CIS/o‐CIS is systematically investigated via a series of characterizations, which can generate an internal electric field to facilitate the separation and migration of photogenerated electron‐hole pairs. The 2D/3D n‐CIS/o‐CIS composite exhibits significantly improved photocatalytic activity and stability in the selective oxidation of phenylcarbinol (PhCH2OH) to benzaldehyde (PhCHO) when compared to pure n‐CIS and o‐CIS samples under visible light irradiation. It is hoped that this work can contribute novel insights into the development of metal sulfides S‐scheme homojunction photocatalysts for solar energy conversion. The 2D/3D CdIn2S4 S‐scheme homojunction photocatalysts are reported for the first time through the straightforward adjustment of PVP amount, which generates an internal electric field to facilitate the separation and migration of photogenerated charge carriers, thus significantly improving the photocatalytic activity and stability of the selective oxidation of phenylcarbinol to benzaldehyde.

Islands and Page curves in charged dilaton black holes
2022
We study the Page curve for eternal Garfinkle–Horowitz–Strominger dilaton black holes in four dimensional asymptotically flat spacetime by using the island paradigm. The results demonstrate that without the island, the entanglement entropy of Hawking radiation is proportional to time and becomes divergent at late times. While taking account of the existence of the island outside the event horizon, the entanglement entropy stops growing at late times and eventually reaches a saturation value. This value is twice of the Bekenstein–Hawking entropy and consistent with the finiteness of the von Neumann entropy of eternal black holes. Moreover, we discuss the impact of the stringy coefficient n and charge Q on the Page time and the scrambling time respectively. For the non-extremal case, the influence of the coefficient n on them is small compared to the influence of the charge Q. However, for the extremal case, the Page time and the scrambling time become divergent or near vanishing. This implies the island paradigm needs further investigation.

Hybrid BW-EDAS MCDM methodology for optimal industrial robot selection
2021
Industrial robots have different capabilities and specifications according to the required applications. It is becoming difficult to select a suitable robot for specific applications and requirements due to the availability of several types with different specifications of robots in the market. Best-worst method is a useful, highly consistent and reliable method to derive weights of criteria and it is worthy to integrate it with the evaluation based on distance from average solution (EDAS) method that is more applicable and needs fewer number of calculations as compared to other methods. An example is presented to show the validity and usability of the proposed methodology. Comparison of ranking results matches with the well-known distance-based approach, technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution and VIseKriterijumska Optimizacija I Kompromisno Resenje (VIKOR) methods showing the robustness of the best-worst EDAS hybrid method. Sensitivity analysis performed using eighty to one ratio shows that the proposed hybrid MCDM methodology is more stable and reliable.

METTL16 promotes cell proliferation by up‐regulating cyclin D1 expression in gastric cancer
2021
N6‐methyladenosine (m6A) is a well‐known modification of RNA. However, as a key m6A methyltransferase, METTL16 has not been thoroughly studied in gastric cancer (GC). Here, the biological role of METTL16 in GC and its underlying mechanism was studied. Immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of METTL16 and relationship between METTL16 level and prognosis of GC was analysed. CCK8, colony formation assay, EdU assay and xenograft mouse model were used to study the effect of METTL16. Regulatory mechanism of METTL16 in the progression of GC was studied through flow cytometry analysis, RNA degradation assay, methyltransferase inhibition assay, RT‐qPCR and Western blotting. METTL16 was highly expressed in GC cells and tissues and was associated with prognosis. In vitro and in vivo experiments confirmed that METTL16 promoted proliferation of GC cells and tumour growth. Furthermore, down‐regulation of METTL16 inhibited proliferation by G1/S blocking. Significantly, we identified cyclin D1 as a downstream effector of METTL16. Knock‐down METTL16 decreased the overall level of m6A and the stability of cyclin D1 mRNA in GC cells. Meanwhile, inhibition of methyltransferase activity reduced the level of cyclin D1. METTL16‐mediated m6A methylation promotes proliferation of GC cells through enhancing cyclin D1 expression.

Towards optimal single-photon sources from polarized microcavities
2019
An optimal single-photon source should deterministically deliver one, and only one, photon at a time, with no trade-off between the source’s efficiency and the photon indistinguishability. However, all reported solid-state sources of indistinguishable single photons had to rely on polarization filtering, which reduced the efficiency by 50%, fundamentally limiting the scaling of photonic quantum technologies. Here, we overcome this long-standing challenge by coherently driving quantum dots deterministically coupled to polarization-selective Purcell microcavities. We present two examples: narrowband, elliptical micropillars and broadband, elliptical Bragg gratings. A polarization-orthogonal excitation–collection scheme is designed to minimize the polarization filtering loss under resonant excitation. We demonstrate a polarized single-photon efficiency of 0.60 ± 0.02 (0.56 ± 0.02), a single-photon purity of 0.975 ± 0.005 (0.991 ± 0.003) and an indistinguishability of 0.975 ± 0.006 (0.951 ± 0.005) for the micropillar (Bragg grating) device. Our work provides promising solutions for truly optimal single-photon sources combining near-unity indistinguishability and near-unity system efficiency simultaneously.
