The separation of high purity ethene from the mixed gaseous products of cracking poses significant obstacles. Here, the authors present a metal-organic framework which, in contrast to most absorbents, selectively binds the less polar ethane thus allowing the efficient collection of the target product.

Conventional adsorbents preferentially adsorb the small, high-polarity, and unsaturated 1,3-butadiene molecule over the other C₄ hydrocarbons from which it must be separated. We show from single-crystal x-ray diffraction and computational simulation that a hydrophilic metal-organic framework, [Zn₂(btm)₂], where H₂btm is bis(5-methyl-1H-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl)methane, has quasi-discrete pores that can induce conformational changes in the flexible guest molecules, weakening 1,3-butadiene adsorption through a large bending energy penalty. In a breakthrough operation at ambient temperature and pressure, this guest conformation–controlling adsorbent eluted 1,3-butadiene first, then butane, butene, and isobutene. Thus, 1,3-butadiene can be efficiently purified (≥99.5%) while avoiding high-temperature conditions that can lead to its undesirable polymerization.

Molecule-based nonlinear optical switch with highly tunable on-off temperature using a dual solid solution approach
2020
Nonlinear optical switches that reversibly convert between on/off states by thermal stimuli are promising for applications in the fields of photoelectronics and photonics. Currently one main drawback for practical application lies in the control of their switch temperature, especially for the temperature range near room temperature. By mixed melting treatment, here we describe an alloy-like nonlinear optical switch with tunable switch temperature via a dual solid solution approach within the coordination polymer system. We initially prepare a coordination polymer (
i
-PrNHMe
2
)[Cd(SCN)
3
], which functions as a high-contrast thermoresponsive nonlinear optical switch originating from a phase transition at around 328 K. Furthermore, by taking advantage of a synergistic dual solid solution effect, the melt mixing of it with its analogue (MeNHEt
2
)[Cd(SCN)
3
], which features an unequal anionic chain templated by an isomeric ammonium, can afford coordination polymer solid solutions with switch temperatures that are tunable in a range of 273–328 K merely by varying the component ratio.
Switching of nonlinear optical signals is attractive for photoelectronics and photonics, but development is hindered by a lack of control over the switch temperature. Here the authors report a coordination polymer system that serves as an alloy-like nonlinear optical switch with a tunable switch temperature.

Mitochondria-targeted cyclosporin A delivery system to treat myocardial ischemia reperfusion injury of rats
2019
Background
Cyclosporin A (CsA) is a promising therapeutic drug for myocardial ischemia reperfusion injury (MI/RI) because of its definite inhibition to the opening of mitochondrial permeability transition pore (mPTP). However, the application of cyclosporin A to treat MI/RI is limited due to its immunosuppressive effect to other normal organ and tissues. SS31 represents a novel mitochondria-targeted peptide which can guide drug to accumulate into mitochondria. In this paper, mitochondria-targeted nanoparticles (CsA@PLGA-PEG-SS31) were prepared to precisely deliver cyclosporin A into mitochondria of ischemic cardiomyocytes to treat MI/RI.
Results
CsA@PLGA-PEG-SS31 was prepared by nanoprecipitation. CsA@PLGA-PEG-SS31 showed small particle size (~ 50 nm) and positive charge due to the modification of SS31 on the surface of nanoparticles. CsA@PLGA-PEG-SS31 was stable for more than 30 days and displayed a biphasic drug release pattern. The in vitro results showed that the intracellular uptake of CsA@PLGA-PEG-SS31 was significantly enhanced in hypoxia reoxygenation (H/R) injured H9c2 cells. CsA@PLGA-PEG-SS31 delivered CsA into mitochondria of H/R injured H9c2 cells and subsequently increased the viability of H/R injured H9c2 cell through inhibiting the opening of mPTP and production of reactive oxygen species. In vivo results showed that CsA@PLGA-PEG-SS31 accumulated in ischemic myocardium of MI/RI rat heart. Apoptosis of cardiomyocyte was alleviated in MI/RI rats treated with CsA@PLGA-PEG-SS31, which resulted in the myocardial salvage and improvement of cardiac function. Besides, CsA@PLGA-PEG-SS31 protected myocardium from damage by reducing the recruitment of inflammatory cells and maintaining the integrity of mitochondrial function in MI/RI rats.
Conclusion
CsA@PLGA-PEG-SS31 exhibited significant cardioprotective effects against MI/RI in rats hearts through protecting mitochondrial integrity, decreasing apoptosis of cardiomyocytes and myocardial infract area. Thus, CsA@PLGA-PEG-SS31 offered a promising therapeutic method for patients with acute myocardial infarction.

ImVoxelGNet: Image to voxels geometry-aware projection for multi-view RGB-based 3D object detection
2025
3D object detection based solely on image data presents a significant challenge in computer vision, primarily due to the need to integrate geometric perception processes derived from visual inputs. The key to overcoming this challenge lies in effectively capturing the geometric relationships across multiple viewpoints, thereby establishing strong geometric priors. Current methods commonly back-project voxels onto images to align voxel-pixel features, yet during this process, pixel features are insufficiently involved in learning, leading to a decrease in geometric perception accuracy and, consequently, impacting detection performance. To address this limitation, we propose a novel network framework called ImVoxelGNet. This framework first integrates features projected onto pixels via a expansion operation, compensating for the pixel information inadequately utilized in traditional back-projection methods, thus enabling more precise learning of spatial geometric features. Additionally, we design an implicit geometric perception structure that further refines the spatial geometric features obtained after integrating image features, learning the occupancy relationships in spatial voxels and updating them within the spatial features. Finally, we generate the final prediction results by combining a detection head with 3D convolutions. Evaluation on the ScanNetV2 multi-view 3D object detection dataset demonstrates that ImVoxelGNet achieves a performance improvement of up to 2.2% in mean average precision (mAP). This improvement effectively demonstrates the efficacy of our method in significantly enhancing 3D object detection performance through improved geometric perception and comprehensive scene understanding. Corylifol A ameliorates muscle atrophy by inhibiting TAOK1/p38‐MAPK/FoxO3 pathway in cancer cachexia
2023
Corylifol A (CYA) is one of the main active components of Psoralea corylifolia L. CYA had been reported to have ameliorating effects on dexamethasone-induced atrophy of C2C12 mouse skeletal myotubes, but its effects on cancer cachexia were unclear. Here, we checked the influence of CYA on muscle atrophy in cancer cachexia mice and tried to clarify its mechanisms.
C26 tumour-bearing mice were applied as the animal model to examine the effects of CYA in attenuating cachexia symptoms. The in vitro cell models of TNF-α-induced C2C12 myotubes or ad-mRFP-GFP-LC3B-transfected C2C12 myotubes were used to check the influence of CYA on myotube atrophy based on both ubiquitin proteasome system (UPS) and autophagy-lysosome system. The possible direct targets of CYA were searched using the biotin-streptavidin pull-down assay and then confirmed using the Microscale thermophoresis binding assay. The levels of related signal proteins in both in vitro and in vivo experiments were examined using western blotting and immunocytochemical assay.
The administration of CYA prevented body weight loss and muscle wasting in C26 tumour-bearing mice without affecting tumour growth. At the end of the experiment, the body weight of mice treated with 30 mg/kg of CYA (23.59 ± 0.94 g) was significantly higher than that of the C26 model group (21.66 ± 0.56 g) with P < 0.05. The values of gastrocnemius muscle weight/body weight of mice treated with 15 or 30 mg/kg CYA (0.53 ± 0.02% and 0.54 ± 0.01%, respectively) were both significantly higher than that of the C26 model group (0.45 ± 0.01%) with P < 0.01. CYA decreased both UPS-mediated protein degradation and autophagy in muscle tissues of C26 tumour-bearing mice as well as in C2C12 myotubes treated with TNF-α. The thousand-and-one amino acid kinase 1 (TAOK1) was found to be the direct binding target of CYA. CYA inhibited the activation of TAOK1 and its downstream p38-MAPK pathway thus decreased the level and nuclear location of FoxO3. siRNA knockdown of TAOK1 or regulation of the p38-MAPK pathway using activator or inhibitor could affect the ameliorating effects of CYA on myotube atrophy.
CYA ameliorates cancer cachexia muscle atrophy by decreasing both UPS degradation and autophagy. The ameliorating effects of CYA on muscle atrophy might be based on its binding with TAOK1 and inhibiting the TAOK1/p38-MAPK/FoxO3 pathway.

Identifying a set of influential spreaders in complex networks
2016
Identifying a set of influential spreaders in complex networks plays a crucial role in effective information spreading. A simple strategy is to choose top-
r
ranked nodes as spreaders according to influence ranking method such as PageRank, ClusterRank and
k
-shell decomposition. Besides, some heuristic methods such as hill-climbing, SPIN, degree discount and independent set based are also proposed. However, these approaches suffer from a possibility that some spreaders are so close together that they overlap sphere of influence or time consuming. In this report, we present a simply yet effectively iterative method named VoteRank to identify a set of decentralized spreaders with the best spreading ability. In this approach, all nodes vote in a spreader in each turn, and the voting ability of neighbors of elected spreader will be decreased in subsequent turn. Experimental results on four real networks show that under Susceptible-Infected-Recovered (SIR) and Susceptible-Infected (SI) models, VoteRank outperforms the traditional benchmark methods on both spreading rate and final affected scale. What’s more, VoteRank has superior computational efficiency.

Long-term chemical fertilizer input causes soil organic matter losses, structural compaction, and changes in soil water and nutrient availability, which have been subdued in the most of dry farmland in China. The concept of \"more efficiency with less fertilizer input\" has been proposed and is urgently needed in current agriculture. Application of chemical fertilizer combined with organic manure (OM) could be a solution for soil protection and sustainable production of dry-land maize (Zea mays. L). Field research over three consecutive years on the Loess Plateau of China was conducted to evaluate the integrated effects of chemical fertilizer strategies and additional OM input on soil nutrients availability and water use in maize. The results showed that, after harvest, soil bulk density decreased significantly with OM application, concomitant with 11.9, 18.7 and 97.8% increases in topsoil total nitrogen, organic matter, and available phosphorus contents, respectively, compared with those under equal chemical NPK input. Water use in the 1.0-1.5 m soil profile was improved, therefore, the soil conditions were better for maize root growth, leaf area and shoot biomass of individual maize plants increased significantly with OM application. Optimized NPK strategies increased grain yield and water use efficiency by 18.5 and 20.6%, respectively, compared to only chemical NP input. Furthermore, additional OM input promoted yield and water use efficiency by 8.9 and 5.8%, respectively. Addition of OM promotes sustainable soil and maize grain productivity as well as friendly soil environmental management of dry land farming.

Overview of 1,5-Selective Click Reaction of Azides with Alkynes or Their Synthetic Equivalents
2023
Nowadays, the click reaction of azides with alkynes has evolved rapidly and become one of the most efficient methods to synthesize 1,2,3-triazoles, which are an important class of N-containing heterocycles. While the 1,4-selective click reaction of azides with alkynes is well established to synthesize 1,4-substituted 1,2,3-triazoles, the corresponding 1,5-selective click reaction for the generation of 1,5-substituted-1,2,3-triazoles is much less explored, and there is no systematic review for the 1,5-selective click reaction. This timely review summarizes the discovery and development of 1,5-selective click reactions of azides with alkynes for the synthesis of 1,5-substituted 1,2,3-triazoles. The 1,5-selective click reactions will be divided into three types according to the critical reactive intermediates: metallacyclic intermediates, acetylide intermediate, and formal 1,5-selective azide-alkyne cycloaddition. The related mechanistic studies will also be involved in this review.

LncRNA-Fendrr protects against the ubiquitination and degradation of NLRC4 protein through HERC2 to regulate the pyroptosis of microglia
2021
Objectives
Targeted inhibition of inflammatory response can reduce diabetic cerebral ischemia–reperfusion (I/R) injure. Pyroptosis is characterized by caspase-1 dependence and the release of a large number of pro-inflammatory factors. LncRNA-Fendrr is associated with a variety of diseases, but Fendrr has not been studied in diabetic cerebral I/R. NLR-family CARD-containing protein 4 (NLRC4) regulate the pyroptosis of microglia cells. This study was designed to investigate whether Fendrr is involved in the effects of diabetic cerebral I/R injury.
Methods
The diabetic brain I/R model in mice was constructed. Mouse microglia cell line BV-2 cells were exposed to high glucose followed by hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R). Fendrr and some pyroptosis-associated proteins were detected by qRT-PCR, western blot or ELISA. HE staining was used to detect pathological changes. Microglia pyroptosis was detected by TUNEL staining. RNA pull-down and RNA Immunoprecipitation were used to detect binding of Fendrr to HERC2 (E3 ubiquitin ligase), and CO-IP detected binding of HERC2 to NLRC4. The ubiquitination of NLRC4 was detected by ubiquitination experiments.
Results
Fendrr was significantly increased in the diabetic cerebral I/R model, and NLRC4 inflammatory complex and pyroptosis mediated inflammatory factors were increased. NLRC4 and inflammatory cytokines associated with pyroptosis were decreased in the high glucose-treated hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R)-induced microglia after Fendrr knockdown. Fendrr bound to HERC2 protein, and HERC2 bound to NLRC4. Meanwhile, Fendrr could inhibit the ubiquitination of NLRC4, HERC2 promoted the ubiquitination of NLRC4 protein. Moreover, the effect of Fendrr overexpression in the diabetic cerebral I/R model of microglia can be reversed by HERC2 overexpression.
Conclusion
Fendrr can protect against the ubiquitination and degradation of NLRC4 protein through E3 ubiquitin ligase HERC2, thereby accelerating the pyroptosis of microglia.
