We discuss two possible scenarios, namely the curvaton mechanism and the dark matter density modulation, where non-Gaussianity signals of superheavy dark matter produced by gravity can be enhanced and observed. In both scenarios, superheavy dark matter couples to an additional light field as a mediator. In the case of derivative coupling, the resulting non-Gaussianities induced by the light field can be large, which can provide inflationary evidences for these superheavy dark matter scenarios.

Explorations of the violation of null energy condition (NEC) in cosmology could enrich our understanding of the very early universe and the related gravity theories. Although a fully stable NEC violation can be realized in the “beyond Horndeski” theory, it remains an open question whether a violation of the NEC is allowed by some fundamental properties of UV-complete theories or the consistency requirements of effective field theory (EFT). We investigate the tree-level perturbative unitarity for stable NEC violations in the contexts of both Galileon and “beyond Horndeski” genesis cosmology, in which the universe is asymptotically Minkowskian in the past. We find that the constraints of perturbative unitarity imply that we may need some unknown new physics below the cut-off scale of the EFT other than that represented by the “beyond Horndeski” operators.

We study the gravitational production of super-Hubble-mass dark matter in the very early universe. We first review the simplest scenario where dark matter is produced mainly during slow roll inflation. Then we move on to consider the cases where dark matter is produced during the transition period between inflation and the subsequent cosmological evolution. The limits of smooth and sudden transitions are studied, respectively. The relic abundances and the cosmological collider signals are calculated.

chip packaging defect detection
2024
As semiconductor chip manufacturing technology advances, chip structures are becoming more complex, leading to an increased likelihood of void defects in the solder layer during packaging. However, identifying void defects in packaged chips remains a significant challenge due to the complex chip background, varying defect sizes and shapes, and blurred boundaries between voids and their surroundings. To address these challenges, we present a deep-learning-based framework for void defect segmentation in chip packaging. The framework consists of two main components: a solder region extraction method and a void defect segmentation network. The solder region extraction method includes a lightweight segmentation network and a rotation correction algorithm that eliminates background noise and accurately captures the solder region of the chip. The void defect segmentation network is designed for efficient and accurate defect segmentation. To cope with the variability of void defect shapes and sizes, we propose a Mamba model-based encoder that uses a visual state space module for multi-scale information extraction. In addition, we propose an interactive dual-stream decoder that uses a feature correlation cross gate module to fuse the streams’ features to improve their correlation and produce more accurate void defect segmentation maps. The effectiveness of the framework is evaluated through quantitative and qualitative experiments on our custom X-ray chip dataset. Furthermore, the proposed void defect segmentation framework for chip packaging has been applied to a real factory inspection line, achieving an accuracy of 93.3% in chip qualification.

Neutrophil extracellular traps-inspired DNA hydrogel for wound hemostatic adjuvant
2024
Severe traumatic bleeding may lead to extremely high mortality rates, and early intervention to stop bleeding plays as a critical role in saving lives. However, rapid hemostasis in deep non-compressible trauma using a highly water-absorbent hydrogel, combined with strong tissue adhesion and bionic procoagulant mechanism, remains a challenge. In this study, a DNA hydrogel (DNAgel) network composed of natural nucleic acids with rapid water absorption, high swelling and instant tissue adhesion is reported, like a band-aid to physically stop bleeding. The excellent swelling behavior and robust mechanical performance, meanwhile, enable the DNAgel band-aid to fill the defect cavity and exert pressure on the bleeding vessels, thereby achieving compression hemostasis for deep tissue bleeding sites. The neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs)-inspired DNAgel network also acts as an artificial DNA scaffold for erythrocytes to adhere and aggregate, and activates platelets, promoting coagulation cascade in a bionic way. The DNAgel achieves lower blood loss than commercial gelatin sponge (GS) in male rat trauma models. In vivo evaluation in a full-thickness skin incision model also demonstrates the ability of DNAgel for promoting wound healing. Overall, the DNAgel band-aid with great hemostatic capacity is a promising candidate for rapid hemostasis and wound healing.
Rapid hemostasis of deep noncompressible irregularly shaped trauma wounds is challenging. Here the authors report a neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs)-inspired DNA hydrogel that is able to induce NETs-like thrombosis as a physical blockade and biological clot to arrest bleeding in deep tissues.

Within the so-called cosmological collider program, imprints of new particles on primordial non-Gaussianities have been studied intensively. In particular, their non- analytic features in the soft limit provide a smoking gun for new particles at the inflation scale. While this approach is very powerful to probe particles of the mass near the Hubble scale, the signal is exponentially suppressed for heavy particles. In this paper, to enlarge the scope of the cosmological collider, we explore a new approach to probing spins of heavy particles from signs of Wilson coefficients of the inflaton effective action and the corresponding primordial non-Gaussianities. As a first step, we focus on the regime where the de Sitter conformal symmetry is weakly broken. It is well known that the leading order effective operator (
∂
μ
𝜙
∂
μ
𝜙)
2
is universally positive as a consequence of unitarity. In contrast, we find that the sign of the six derivative operator (
∇
μ
∂
ν
𝜙)
2
(
∂
ρ
𝜙)
2
is positive for intermediate heavy scalars, whereas it is negative for intermediate heavy spinning states. Therefore, under the assumption of tree-level UV completion, the sign can be used to probe spins of heavy particles generating the effective interaction. We also study phenomenology of primordial non-Gaussianities thereof.

We study implications of perturbative unitarity for quasi-single field inflation with the inflaton and one massive scalar. Analyzing high energy scattering, we show that non-Gaussianities with |
f
NL
| ≳ 1 cannot be realized without turning on interactions which violate unitarity at a high energy scale. Then, we provide a relation between
f
NL
and the scale of new physics that is required for UV completion. In particular we find that for the Hubble scale
H
≳ × 10
9
GeV, Planck suppressed operators can easily generate too large non-Gaussanities and so it is hard to realize successful quasi-single field inflation without introducing a mechanism to suppress quantum gravity corrections. Also we generalize the analysis to the regime where the isocurvature mode is heavy and the inflationary dynamics is captured by the inflaton effective theory. Requiring perturbative unitarity of the two-scalar UV models with the inflaton and one heavy scalar, we clarify the parameter space of the
P
(
X, ϕ
) model which is UV completable by a single heavy scalar.

Large excursion of the inflaton field can trigger interesting dynamics. One important example is a first-order phase transition in a spectator sector which couples to the inflaton. Gravitational waves (GWs) from such a first-order phase transition during inflation, an example of an instantaneous source, have an oscillatory feature. In this work, we show that this feature is generic for a source in an era of accelerated expansion. We also demonstrate that the shape of the GW signal contains information about the evolution of the early universe following the phase transition. In particular, the slope of the infrared part of the GW spectrum is sensitive to the evolution of the Hubble parameter when the GW modes reenter the horizon after inflation. The slope of the profile of the intermediate oscillatory part and the ultraviolet part of the GW spectrum depend on the evolution of the Hubble parameter when the modes exit horizon during the inflation and when they reenter the horizon during the reheating. The ultraviolet spectrum also depends on the details of the dynamics of the phase transition. We consider the GW signal in several models of evolution during and after inflation, and compare them with the minimal scenario of quasi- de Sitter inflation followed by radiation domination after a fast reheating, and demonstrate that the shape of the GW can be used to distinguish them. In this way, the GW signal considered in this paper offers a powerful probe to the dynamics of the early universe which is otherwise difficult to explore directly through CMB, large scale structure, big bang nucleosynthesis (BBN), and other well-studied cosmological observables.

The classification of elementary particles based on unitary irreducible representations of the Poincaré group has been a cornerstone of modern Quantum Field Theory (QFT). While the Standard Model (SM) does not inherently include Dark Matter (DM), any fundamental DM candidate should still conform to this classification or its extensions. Eugene P. Wigner introduced a class of nontrivial representations characterized by an additional discrete degree of freedom, known as the Wigner degeneracy. In this work, we systematically investigate the QFT of such Wigner multiplets, particularly focusing on the massive spin-1/2 fermion. We construct a theoretical framework where the two-fold Wigner spinor fields,
ψ
±
1
2
x
, form a doublet representation. We analyze their transformation properties under discrete symmetries (e.g., charge-conjugation
C
, spatial parity
P
, and time-reversal
T
), revealing novel mixing effects due to the Wigner degeneracy and an emergent accidental U(2) global symmetry. Furthermore, we explore the Yukawa interactions involving the Wigner doublets, showing that such interactions generally violate the
CPT
invariance. We also study gauge theories within the Wigner framework, where the physical Wigner doublet naturally leads to exotic phenomenological consequences beyond the SM, including phase transitions. These results provide new insights into the possible role of the Wigner-degenerate states in fundamental physics, particularly in the dark sector.
