Ganoderma lucidum Glycoprotein Microemulsion: Improved Transdermal Delivery and Protective Efficacy in UV-Induced Cell and Animal Models
2025
Background: Photoaging, induced by chronic ultraviolet (UV) exposure, is a multifactorial skin disorder characterized by oxidative stress, inflammation, and extracellular matrix degradation. Ganoderma lucidum glycoprotein (Gl-Gp) exhibits potent antioxidant activity, but its topical application is limited by poor transdermal permeability. This study aimed to develop a microemulsion-based system to enhance Gl-Gp delivery and evaluate its anti-photoaging efficacy. Methods: Gl-Gp was extracted and purified from G. lucidum fruiting bodies and structurally characterized for O-glycosidic linkages and O-GlcNAc modifications. Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy further confirmed the polysaccharide–protein complex structure of Gl-Gp. A water-in-oil Gl-Gp microemulsion was prepared and assessed in vitro for antioxidant and cytoprotective effects in HaCaT cells, including reactive oxygen species (ROS) reduction, mitochondrial membrane potential stabilization, and apoptosis inhibition. Transdermal penetration was compared with aqueous Gl-Gp. In vivo efficacy was evaluated in a UV-induced rat model by measuring skin morphology, histology, oxidative stress markers, matrix metalloproteinases, and proinflammatory cytokines. Results: The microemulsion enhanced Gl-Gp stability and transdermal delivery. In vitro, it reduced ROS, preserved mitochondrial function, and decreased apoptosis in HaCaT cells. In rats, topical application attenuated erythema and epidermal hyperplasia, promoted dermal restoration, increased SOD and GSH-Px activities, and decreased MDA, hydroxyproline, MMPs, and inflammatory mediators. Conclusions: The Gl-Gp microemulsion exerts antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-collagen-degrading effects, representing a promising strategy for transdermal delivery and topical prevention of photoaging.

High-Stability Thulium-Doped All-Fiber Laser at 2050 nm
2026
High-power thulium-doped fiber lasers (TDFLs) operating near 2050 nm are of great interest for applications including atmospheric gas sensing and free-space optical communication owing to the favorable atmospheric transmission and the strong absorption bands of carbon dioxide (CO2). Here, we report an all-fiber high-power TDFL based on a 793 nm-pumped master oscillator power amplifier (MOPA) architecture. The system comprises a custom-built linear-cavity seed laser and two amplification stages. With a maximum pump power of 818 W, the final amplifier delivers 501 W at 2050 nm with a slope efficiency of 51%. Stable operation is confirmed over two hours at full power, with an RMS power fluctuation of only 0.47%. The measured beam quality factors M2 are 1.31 and 1.27 in the horizontal and vertical directions, respectively, indicating near-diffraction-limited performance. The demonstrated system combines high output power, excellent stability, and good beam quality, and thus provides a promising laser source for 2 μm high-performance applications.

High-Power, Low-Divergence, Single Cross-Sectional-Mode 795 nm Semiconductor Laser Based on Photonic Crystal Epitaxy
2026
The 795 nm wavelength corresponds to the D1 transition of rubidium atoms and is widely used in atomic optical pumping, atomic clocks, magnetometers, and precision spectroscopy. For compact free-space collimation, beam shaping, and efficient fiber coupling, edge-emitting semiconductor lasers with reduced fast-axis (vertical) divergence are highly desirable, yet low-divergence designs at 795 nm remain limited. Here, we propose and demonstrate low-divergence photonic-crystal epitaxy (LD–PC) for 795 nm edge-emitting lasers. By engineering a periodic n-side photonic-crystal stack to place the fundamental vertical mode near the photonic band edge, the vertical mode is expanded while maintaining effective modal discrimination. Narrow-ridge Fabry–Pérot lasers based on GaAsP/AlGaAs single-quantum-well epitaxy were fabricated and characterized. The optimized LD–PC device (3 μm ridge width, 1 mm cavity length) delivers 227 mW at 200 mA with a threshold current of 23 mA, a slope efficiency of 1.28 W/A, and a peak wall-plug efficiency of 55% under continuous-wave operation at 25 °C. The measured far-field divergences (FWHMs) are 7.16° and 18.83° in the lateral and vertical directions, respectively, corresponding to a reduction in the vertical divergence from >40° in the reference structure to <20° with LD–PC. These results validate photonic-crystal epitaxy as an effective route toward compact, high-performance, low-divergence 795 nm semiconductor laser sources for rubidium-based atomic systems.

High-Power 650 nm Dense Spectral Beam Combining System Based on a Compression Telescope and Imaging Module
2025
In this thesis, a 650 nm dense spectral beam combining (DSBC) system based on a compression telescope module (CM) and an imaging module (IM) is proposed (CM&IM DSBC system). Based on twenty-two (22) 650 nm COS (Chip on Submount) single-emitters, the system successfully achieves the first high-power and non-crosstalk beam combining output in the visible red band, with a maximum beam output power of 29.984 W. Compared with the 650 nm traditional DSBC system we proposed last year, the system solves both the crosstalk problem due to its larger optical path and the beam combining power drop caused by the direct reduction in the optical path. The final output power and DSBC efficiency are improved by more than 53% and 10%, respectively. The final beam brightness is improved by nearly 30%. Compared to a COS single-emitter, the brightness increase is more than 22 times. This achievement provides a new idea for the subsequent experimental research and product development of higher-power visible red-light band DSBC systems that can be applied in the industrial field.

Nanotechnology in cervical cancer immunotherapy: Therapeutic vaccines and adoptive cell therapy
2022
Immunotherapy is an emerging method for the treatment of cervical cancer and is more effective than surgery and radiotherapy, especially for recurrent cervical cancer. However, immunotherapy is limited by adverse effects in clinical practice. In recent years, nanotechnology has been widely used for tumor diagnosis, drug delivery, and targeted therapy. In the setting of cervical cancer, nanotechnology can be used to actively or passively target immunotherapeutic agents to tumor sites, thereby enhancing local drug delivery, reducing drug adverse effects, achieving immunomodulation, improving the tumor immune microenvironment, and optimizing treatment efficacy. In this review, we highlight the current status of therapeutic vaccines and adoptive cell therapy in cervical cancer immunotherapy, as well as the application of lipid carriers, polymeric nanoparticles, inorganic nanoparticles, and exosomes in this context.

Beam parameter product optimization of densely arranged multi‐emitter tunnel junction cascaded laser
2023
A tunnel junction cascaded semiconductor laser with thin waveguide and narrowed spacing between adjacent emitters is designed in this work. It can be concluded theoretically that the spatial size of the spots arrangement in fast axis has a greater impact on the vertical beam parameter product (BPP) of the multi‐emitter cascaded laser than the divergence angle. The measured vertical BPP of the designed narrow emitter spacing (NES) laser has been reduced 42.5%, which implies that the beam quality performance of the laser has been improved and proves the feasibility of this method. Meanwhile, the slope efficiency of the thin waveguide NES laser can reach up to 3.55 W/A under 10 ns duration pulse current. We designed a triple‐emitter laser with ultra‐thin emitter waveguide thickness and units spacing, as narrow as 750 nm and 1.62 µm, respectively. The better BPP is reduced 42.5% compared with the reference laser through the design. It is quite effective for directly reducing the combined beam BPPs of lasers with multiple emitters cascaded by tunnel junctions.

2022
Tendinopathy has a high incidence in athletes and the aging population. It can cause pain and movement disorders, and is one of the most difficult problems in orthopedics. Animal models of tendinopathy provide potentially efficient and effective means to develop understanding of human tendinopathy and its underlying pathological mechanisms and treatments. The selection of preclinical models is essential to ensure the successful translation of effective and innovative treatments into clinical practice. Large animals can be used in both micro- and macro-level research owing to their similarity to humans in size, structure, and function. This article reviews the application of large animal models in tendinopathy regarding injuries to four tendons: rotator cuff, patellar ligament, Achilles tendon, and flexor tendon. The advantages and disadvantages of studying tendinopathy with large animal models are summarized. It is hoped that, with further development of animal models of tendinopathy, new strategies for the prevention and treatment of tendinopathy in humans will be developed.

High-Power External Spatial Beam Combining of 7-Channel Quantum Cascade Lasers Emitting at ~8.5 μm
2024
Based on the demand for high-power output, a spatial beam combining 7-channel quantum cascade lasers (QCLs) is demonstrated in this paper. A “2 + 3 + 2” stepped structure is designed to convert the seven beam spots into a circular arrangement. An aspherical lens with a large numerical aperture (NA) of 0.85 and a focal length of 1.873 mm is used in each single QCL for collimation, and seven reflectors are utilized in the 7-channel QCLs combined in the spatial beam. After combining the spatial beam, the maximum continuous output power of the system is 3.6 W, and the beam quality M2 is 5.59 in the fast axis and 8.3 in the slow axis, respectively.

Nano-cones enhanced superhydrophobic fluid-resistance reduction and thermal isolation properties of flexible pipeline
2020
Thermal-fluid transport in the pipeline is an essential process in the application of chemical industry, biology and microfluidic chip. Conventional fluid transport in the pipeline generates much energy loss by hysteresis and heat transfer at the solid/liquid interface, which has become the most significant issue for the applications of novel energy-efficient equipments. Here, we demonstrate a flexible superhydrophobic pipeline with fluid-resistance reduction and thermal isolation properties. Liquid metal as buffer material enhances the bonding strength between flexible pipeline and nano-structures, providing much more pocketed air between solid/liquid interface, which enhances the water repellency of inwall surface and declines the interfacial heat transfer efficiency. These research highlights the potential applications of superhydrophobic functional materials in the field of energy conservation and environment protection.

A Liquid-Metal Based Spiral Magnetohydrodynamic Micropump
2017
A liquid-metal based spiral magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) micropump is proposed in this work. The micropump was fabricated in a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS)-glass hybrid microfluidic chip. This pump utilized two parallel liquid-metal-filled channels as electrodes to generate a parallel electrical field across the pumping channel between the two electrodes. To prevent contact and cross contamination between the liquid metal in the electrode channel and the sample fluid in the pumping channel, a PDMS gap was designed between the liquid metal and the sample fluid. To minimize the chip size, the parallel electrode and pumping channels were designed in a spiral shape. To test pumping performance, NaCl aqueous solution containing fluorescent particles (0.5 μm in diameter) was filled into the pumping channel as the working sample fluid. When a pair of identical magnets (0.4 T) was placed onto both top and bottom surfaces of the chip, the pump was able to drive the sample fluid at a flow velocity of 233.26 μm/s at 3000 V. The pump has no moving parts, and the electrodes are easily fabricated, making the pump suitable for miniaturization and integration into microfluidic systems.
