استكمالا لمسيرة اللجنة الدولية للحفاظ على التراث الحضاري الإسلامي ودورها في الحفاظ على قيم وأساليب فن الخط العربي الإسلامي ولإتاحة الفرصة للأجيال المعاصرة المستقبلية في الاطلاع والتعلم لهذا النوع من الفن تميز وأبداع في الخطاطون المسلمون القدماء وتخليدا لذكراهم فقد نظمت اللجنة الدولية للحفاظ على التراث حتى الآن أربع مسابقات ارتبطت جمبعها بأسماء كبار الخطاطين المبدعين فكانت الأولى باسم الخطاط الراحل حامد المدي عام 1986 والثانية باسم ياقوت المعتصمي وأقيمت عام 1989 والثالثة فكانت 1992 بمناسبة مرور ألف عام عاى وفاة الخطاط الكبير ابن البواب أما المسابقة الرابعة فقد نظمت عام 1997 باسم الخطاط الكبير حمد الله الآماسي.
