Detection of Interleukin-1 in the Seminal Plasma With Elevated Levels in the Seminal Plasma of Infertile Patients with Varicocele and Urogenital Infection
This work aimed at confirming the presence of IL-l in the seminal plasma, to compare its levels in the seminal plasma of normal fertile and infertile subjects, and to show any correlation between its levels and spermiogram parameters, varicocele, and urogenital infection. Forty subjects were included in this study; (Groupl; 10, infertile patients with abnormal semen parameters only),(Group2; 10 infertile patients with abnormal semen parameters and varicocele),( Group 3;10 infertile patients with abnormal semen parameters and urogenital infection), and (Group 4;10, normal fertile donors). Semen samples were collected by masturbation in wide mouthed sterile containers after 3-5 days of sexual abstinence, IL-1 concentrations in the seminal plasma were measured by sandwich-ELISA technique. Statistically analyzed .There were statistically significant differences between the four groups (p<0.05), group 1 had a mean value of (43.05) , group 2(63.25), group 3 (64.75) and group 4(44.33). The finding of this study confirmed the presence of IL-l in the seminal plasma, showed significantly higher levels in the seminal plasma of infertile patients with varicocele and urogenital infection, and no correlation between IL-l levels in the seminal plasma and spermiogram parameters.
