From Legacy to Uncertainty
Nigeria has long recognized Arabic Village in Ngala, Maiduguri, as a pivotal hub for Arabic language education. As a center for linguistic and cultural immersion, it has shaped generations of Arabic scholars and contributed significantly to Arabic literacy and Islamic scholarship. The village's unique environment provided students with the opportunity to experience Arabic in a native-like setting, enhancing their linguistic proficiency and cultural understanding. However, the emergence of Boko Haram and the ensuing insurgency have severely disrupted educational activities in Ngala. The once-thriving village has faced challenges such as infrastructure destruction, displacement of educators and students, and widespread fear. These challenges have stunted Arabic education's growth in the region and reduced participation nationwide, particularly in the south. Parents and institutions hesitate to send students to Ngala due to security concerns, limiting immersion opportunities. Although the Nigerian government's language policies support Arabic studies, they have struggled to address the insurgency's impact. The paper calls for strategic interventions, including security measures, infrastructure rebuilding, and adaptive policies, to revitalize Arabic education and restore confidence in the region's educational offerings.
Nurse-Physician Attitudes towards Collaboration and Shared Education
The study aims to investigate attitudinal differences towards physician nurse collaboration and shared education of 120 health workers including physicians (n=30), nurses (n=30), medical students (n=30) and nursing students (n=30). Participants responded to a short survey and to the Jeffersonian Attitudes Scale for Doctor-Nurse Collaboration (Hojat, 2012). Results yielded that 73.33% of physicians, 90% of nurses, 90% of nursing students and 96.67% of medical students showed positive attitudes towards teamwork and shared education. Medical students and physicians showed the highest positive attitudes towards nurse's autonomy. Nursing students showed the highest negative attitudes towards physician's dominance. There were not significant differences between the groups in the other factors. Results point out the importance of developing healthcare skills through the improvement of educational programs in term of collaboration.
Nurses' Knowledge and Beliefs about Kangaroo Mother Care
Background: Globally, 2.7 million children pass away every year, and over 20 million newborns weigh less than 2.5 kg at birth. The majority of newborns with low birth weights are born in underdeveloped nations. While providing kangaroo mother care (KMC) for these mothers, neonatal nurses can offer assistance. Although numerous studies have focused on KMC practice in healthcare settings, research has neglected to focus on the perceptions and practice of KMC by nurses. The study aimed to assess the knowledge and attitudes of nurses towards the application of KMC. Methods: We conducted this cross-sectional study at Faculty of XX, XX University, Saudi Arabia. We included all nurses including students, professors, nursing staff, nursing educators and different nursing specialties at the hospital. We excluded other specialties of medical staff and those who didn\"t want to participate in the study. We also excluded non-Saudi Arabians living in Saudi Arabia. We used an online questionnaire organized via google forms and offline semi-structured interviews for those who don\"t access the internet. The questionnaire was made of three parts: the first included questions about the demographic characteristics of the study participants, the second included 15 questions for the assessment of attitudes toward KMC in neonatal intensive care units, and the third part to assess the ability of participants to give correct answer in order to measure the level of knowledge. Results: According to Likert scale, the 8th item was the only one with very high attitude of participants, 1st, 3rd, 6th, 7th, 13th, 14th, and 15th were of high attitude, 2nd, 5th, 11th, and 12th were of moderate attitude, 4th, 9th, and 10th were of low attitude. The most correctly answered question was the 1st one (92%) followed by the 9th question, while the most incorrectly answered question was the 4th followed by the 2nd one. Conclusion: Good knowledge and attitude toward KC was observed in our study. However, more information should be provided to all the nursing staff in addition to educational programs in order to increase the knowledge and to be able to apply this type of care in clinical practice and achieve positive outcomes.
Digital Resilience as an Inherent Capability in the Disruption Era
Background: Rapid advancements in technology are causing substantial disruption, leading to fundamental societal behavioral changes. This disruption also presents an elevated risk of mental health and behavioral issues, encompassing cyberbullying, cybercrime, burnout, and even instances of suicide. Cultivating digital resilience is crucial in addressing these challenges, as there is currently a scarcity of scientific literature on the subjects. Objective: This study delves into the existing literatures regarding how digital resilience can empower individuals to confront difficulties in an era of disruption. Method: A comprehensive scoping review was carried out, sourcing scholarly articles from ScienceDirect, PubMed, and ProQuest between 2014 and 2024, utilizing specific keywords including \"digital resilience,\" \"disruption era,\" \"digital capabilities,\" and \"digital challenges.\" Adhering to the PRISMA method and predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria, 342 research articles were initially identified, with the final analysis focusing on 26 articles. Results: Digital resilience encompasses several critical components, including digital social support, digital health, and digital identity. To effectively manage technostress, individuals employ personal coping strategies while seeking assistance from family members, friends, educators, and social media platforms. Research demonstrates that digital resilience is influenced by an individual's adaptability to digital transformations, the resources available for alleviating stress, and the chosen strategies for stress management. Moreover, digital resilience is contingent upon an individual's comprehension of digital resources, which include literacy, self-efficacy, technology access, and social networks. Confidence in technological tools enhances engagement, while proficient literacy facilitates knowledge absorption. Strengthening resilience requires collaboration and effective resource management, with information and communication technology (ICT) pivotal in enabling real-time patient care. Conclusion: Digital resilience is an inherent capability that can be developed through targeted strategies, including resource reinforcement and social network support. The insights garnered from this study can effectively guide the development of educational programs, workplace policies, and community initiatives to enhance digital resilience.
