فاعلية برنامج تدريبي قائم على استراتيجية التعليم العرضي في تنمية المهارات اللغوية عند الأطفال التوحديين في محافظة الطائف
هدفت هذه الدراسة إلى التحقق من فاعلية برنامج تدريبي قائم على إستراتيجية التعليم العرضي في تنمية المهارات اللغوية عند الأطفال ذوي اضطراب التوحد في محافظة الطائف، وقد تكونت العينة من (12) طفلاً يعانون من اضطراب التوحد، تراوحت أعمارهم ما بين (8-12)، كمجموعة تجريبية، وقد طور الباحثون مقياساً للمهارات اللغوية للأطفال ذوي اضطراب التوحد، وتحققوا من صدقه وثباته، وكذلك برنامجاً تدريبياً قائماً على إستراتيجية التعليم العرضي لتنمية بعض المهارات اللغوية عند الأطفال ذوي اضطراب التوحد، وتكون البرنامج من (16) جلسة موزعة على جلستين أسبوعياً، زمن الجلسة (30) دقيقة. استخدمت المتوسطات الحسابية، والانحرافات المعيارية لدرجات أفراد المجموعة التجريبية، واختبار الفرضيات باستخدام اختبار ولكوكسون (Willcoxon) لدراسة الفروق بين متوسطات رتب درجات المجموعات المرتبطة. توصلت الدراسة إلى النتائج الآتية: 1- توجد فروق دالة إحصائيا بين متوسطات رتب درجات المجموعات التجريبية في القياسين القبلي والبعدي على مقياس المهارات اللغوية، وذلك لصالح القياس البعدي. 2- لا توجد فروق دالة إحصائيا بين متوسطات رتب درجات المجموعة التجريبية في القياسين البعدي والتتبعي بعد شهرين من تطبيق البرنامج التدريبي.
Medical Students' Insights towards Patient Safety
Objectives : this study aimed to explore Saudi Arabian medical students’ perceptions of patient safety. methods : a cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted in the college of medicine, King Saud Bin Abdulaziz University for health sciences, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in September 2019. the attitudes to patient safety questionnaire (APSQ III) was used to explore undergraduate medical students’ attitudes towards and knowledge of PS. the main outcomes measured were the APSQ III’s nine domains. data were analysed using statistical package for the Social Sciences and students’ attitudes were communicated as mean scores ± standard deviations. results : a total of 301 participants were included in this study (response rate: 85.75%). six domains reflected a positive attitude while three domains showed a neutral attitude. the domain of ‘team functioning’ had the highest mean score (5.8) followed by ‘working hours as a cause of error’ (5.6) and ‘error inevitability’ (5.4). there was a significant difference between gender in the domain ‘patient involvement in reducing error’ (p = 0.012) and ‘importance of patient safety (PS) in the curriculum’ (P = 0.001). In addition, the ‘importance of PS in the curriculum’ domain was significantly different across different age groups (P = 0.039). conclusion : medical students were highly interested in PS and recommended implementing a comprehensive undergraduate PS programme to fulfil their educational needs.
The Ethics and Legality of Using Personal Smartphones to Take Medical Photographs
Photography in the medical profession is an asset that may help during patients’ follow-up, monitoring the progression of diseases, getting a second opinion and in medical educational activities. Advances in technology, specifically smartphones, have enabled medical professionals to obtain high-quality photographs with minimal effort and photography experience. This article discusses the ethics and legality of using personal smartphones in a medical professional setting for medical photography. Written informed consent should always be obtained from the patient and should include details about how the photographs will be used
Patients' Perceptions towards the Participation of Medical Students in Their Care
Objectives : Patient interaction is a vital part of healthcare training. This study aimed to investigate patients’ perceptions of the participation of medical students in their care. Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted between October 2014 and March 2015 among 430 patients admitted to the medical and surgical wards at the King Abdulaziz Medical City, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. An Arabic questionnaire was designed to assess the demographic characteristics of the patients and their perceptions of students’ participation in their medical care. Results: A total of 416 patients completed the survey (response rate: 97 %). Overall, 407 patients (98 %) acknowledged the educational benefit of involving medical students in their care. A total of 368 patients (88 %) had no objection to a medical student being involved in their care. Of these, 98 % were willing to be asked about their medical history by medical students, 89% would permit physical examinations by medical students and 39% preferred that the gender of the medical student match their own. Education level (P < 0.003), a positive prior experience with a medical student (P < 0.001) and perception of the medical students’ attitudes (P < 0.001) had a significant effect on patients’ acceptance of medical students participating in their care. Conclusion : In general, the patients had a positive perception of medical students, with most patients acknowledging the educational benefit of student participation in patient care. As patients’ perceptions of students’ professionalism, confidence and respect for privacy were significantly related to acceptance of care, education on these aspects should be a priority in medical curricula
