Investigating Writing Competence in Arabic-to- English Translation
2025
The present study investigates the most frequent EFL writing competence errors among third year translation students in the Department of Translation at Batna 2 University. Employing a quantitative error analysis approach, it is hypothesized that errors in the Arabic into English translations produced by these students stem from deficiencies in the EFL communicative competence particularly writing. The study findings confirm that students' errors in written translation are partly due to defects in their EFL linguistic, sociolinguistic, and discourse competences. Accordingly, it is recommended that those core competences be given priority in the translator trainee context.
