Several years ago the Saudi Historical Society embarked on a mission by which the annual meetings were transferred from ar-Riyadh where the society is situated to other Regions across the width and breadth of the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The first meeting to be held outside ar-Riyadh was the Makkah (i.e) the eighth meeting, whereas the last, the tenth, was held in al- al Madinah alMunawwarah in the Western Province, the Proceeding of which are to be introduced in this Preface. The history of al Madinah al Munawwarah through the ages is rich in historical and cultural materials and the scientific committee had to choose the outstanding papers among more than a hundred and twenty papers sent to the committee to be refereed and judged. The numbers of research papers that are included in these Proceedings are more than twenty two in two volumes they cover most of the history and culture of al-Madinah Region. The initial number of papers delivered in the meeting exceeded this number here, but some of the researchers could not beat the deadline set by the editorial board, others wanted to publish their papers in some other venues. The axes of alMadinah meeting cover all aspects of history, culture and heritage of alMadinah. The papers that were delivered in the meeting cover the history of the region from the early times to the Modem History. Including alMadinah before the advent of Islam, alMadinah as the focus of Muslim life, alMadinah as a capital of the Muslim state under the Prophet (Pbuh) and his immediate successors, alMadinah as a centre for Knowledge and as sacred place veneered by all Muslims...etc. The president and the council of the Saudi Historical Society would like to acknowledge with deep gratitude the support of HRH Prince Salman Ibn AbdulAziz, Governor of ar-Riyadh region, the Honorary President of the society, both materially and morally for the society. Also we would like to extend our thank to HRH Prince and HRH Prince Abdul Aziz b. Majid b. Abdul Aziz Governor of alMadinah Region for his efforts in the preparation and execution of the meeting which made the occasion a meeting to be remembered by the members of the Saudi Historical Society. We also would like to acknowledge the generous support by his Excellency the President of Taibah University,Prof. Mansoor b. Muhammad alNuzhah both for his financial and logestic support ,and the staff of the Taibah University both Academic and administrative and the staff of the History Department in specific. Our thanks are due to the President of the Islamic Univesity Excellancy Prof. Muhammad Ali alUgla for his support of the Saudi Historical Society. The Meeting of alMadinah was an occasion for the members of the society to know the region first hand, and in this we were received by the director of al-Madinah literary club Prof. Abdullah Usailan who threw a panquit in this occasion. These two volumes on the history and culture of alMadinah are published and all the expenses of editing and refereeing were paid for by the University of Taibah. The editorial staff also came from the University Taibah except the Chief editor Prof. Ibrahim M. alMozaini who is the deputy president of the society.

لقد كان الخط العربي وسيلة لنقل العلوم والمعارف العربية إلى العالم الأخر قبل اختراع الطباعة. وعليه كان العماد في دفع الحركة العلمية في أوروبا التي كانت مظلمة، وقت أن كان العرب هم رواد العلوم والفنون والمعارف.. ولا ننسى فضل الخط العربي في حفظ مقومات اللغة العربية والا سلامية. فعليه كان العماد في حفظ القرآن كتابة. منذ عصر سيدنا محمد (صلى الله عليه وسلم) إلى عصرنا هذا. وكذلك جمع السنة وعلومها منذ القرن الثاني الهجري إلى عصر الطباعة، وينطبق القول على كافة علوم الدين الإسلامي؛ لذلك أخذ القدماء. بجميع الوسائل التي ترتقي بالخط العربي حتى صار في ذاته فنا عالميا له مكانته السامقة في جميع الثقافات، وأصبحت له صور وأشكال وقوالب عديدة، ولا يزال الباب مفتوحا نحو ابتكار الجديد في مجال الخط العربي.. ولكن ذلك قاصر على قلة من الخطاطين..
