This paper examines the impact of English on Arabic, a topical theme with linguistic and cultural implications. The most direct reflection of this impact is seen in the influx of anglicisms into the lexicon of Arabic. Since media is one of \"the most influential sources in the introduction of new vocabulary\" (Makarova, 2012, p. 74), accordingly, this paper explores the outcomes of using anglicisms in the language of Arab media, where the presence of borrowings has increased in an unparalleled degree. The research methodology employed here consists of scanning some selected editorials of al-Ahram newspaper. The analyzed time period is from 2015 until 2018. The findings of the study show that the spread of anglicisms has often been viewed as a sign as much of the enrichment of Arabic as of its decay.

This paper examines how English words with complex syllable structures are incorporated into the phonological system of Hijazi Arabic (HA). Data provided by native speakers of HA show that English loanwords with consonant clusters often undergo anaptyxis more commonly in initial than final clusters. Further, application of anaptyxis, although incumbent in some onset clusters, may not be required in others. In this article, I argue that such asymmetry in the employment of vowel epenthesis is teleological and is perceptually driven by the relative robustness of the cluster's consonant perceptual cues, which contribute significantly to the overall perceptibility of the cluster. While anaptyxis in perceptually salient clusters is less probable, its occurrence in perceptually less privileged ones does not only adhere to the canonical prosodic structure of the host language, but it enhances the auditory cues of its segments as well. This perceptual generalization is captured in an Optimality Theoretic account that builds on a set of DEP-V context-sensitive constraints.

With the rising of the term \"globalization\" and its implication of a certain domination of the United States, another kind of domination became obvious: the linguistic domination of English or Anglo-American language. This research paper discusses the anglo-american influence on Italian political and economic contemporary language, pointing out three linguistic phenomena: the foreignism, \"binomi\" and new formations using suffix and prefix, imitating anglo-american model. Besides, semantic modifications to these formations have been highlighted. The spread of these phenomena is strictly related to writer's or speaker's desire to optimize time and effort. In addition, a lot of these terms and expressions are neo-compositions and neoderivations related to modern concepts born in the USA, and to express them precisely, it is necessary to use original terms. Hence, the appearance of these phenomena is perfectly justifiable; regardless the fact that they might not be accepted by many purists and defenders of the linguistic identity.

The fact that the current influx of English borrowings is unprecedented in the history of Arabic generates lexical interference between both languages. This study aims at presenting a phonological analysis of the modifications in lexis this language contact brings about, by means of some linguistic techniques of inter-language adaptation. Essentially, the study shows how English loan words are phonologically adapted after they are transferred directly or indirectly into Arabic. By analyzing some selected editorials of Al-Ahram newspaper, the study concludes that the importation of new English loan words does not represent a threat for Arabic since the Arabic linguistic system has the ability to assimilate such new words by adapting them to its own structures.

This is a study of Arabic loan words borrowed from Bengali language, which is comprised of Arabic/Perso-Arabic, Urdu and Sanskrit/Hindi loanwords in local English newspapers. This paper is confined to three English language newspapers namely The Daily Star, The Independent, and The News Today. This study seeks to identify Arabic loanwords in the English-language newspapers and to investigate the types of lexical items or loanwords found therein. This survey examined the authentic use of Islamic English particularly the occurrences of borrowing Arabic terms, collected from October 2013 to April 2014. The loanwords are also categorized and analyzed to show their function in the English newspapers. The findings of this study prove that the English language is still in contact with other languages to express new ideas and concepts. It is hoped that this study will assist in some measures towards an understanding of the way local words, phrases, and ideas are nativized into the English language and the extent to which these Arabic loanwords are used in the local English newspapers.

تواجه اللغة العربية اليوم تحديات جمة داخلية وخارجية مثلما ظلت عبر عصور التاريخ المختلفة، وإن كانت تحديات اليوم المتمثلة في العولمة، وذلك لأهداف ومآرب ليست بريئة على الإطلاق وإذا كان الكثير من المهتمين باللغة العربية والباحثين فيها التمسوا أسباب هذه التحديات، ووضعوا جملة من الوسائل من الرهانات، إلا أن هذه التحديات تتزايد في زمن العولمة وانتشار وسائل الاتصال واتساعها على نطاق كبير. إن العولمة من جهة قد فتحت بابا ووفرت جميع الوسائل لكل لغة لتجد سبيلها إلى خوض التواصل الدولي، ولكنها من ناحية أخرى قد أدت إلى ما يمكن الإطلاق عليه مصطلح \"أزمة الهوية اللغوية\" حيث أن أبناء هذا العصر لم يعودوا يعيشون اللغة التي تنتمي إليها ثقافاتهم و حضارتهم وإنما يعيشون اللغة المهيمنة على التواصل الدولي. لذلك يتطلب حتمية استعمال اللغة العربية كأداة لتبليغ التقانة لتأمين مستقبل لغتنا، ولتأهيلها لتتبوأ المكانة اللائقة بها بين اللغات الحية. وينبغي أن لا نغفل حقيقة أخرى ستساعد ولاشك اللغة العربية على احتلال هذه المكانة في المستقبل، وهذه الحقيقة تتجلى في كون اللغة العربية في حاجة إلى مسايرة العصر، حتى تعبر عن فكر عصري، وتساهم في خلق هذا الفكر العصري.
