Colorful Language
2025
This research explores the impact of color perception and how the color influences in Disney characters, through the lens of the Sapir-Whorf Hypothesis (Linguistic Relativity). Color design is the core element of television and film animation. Color design emphasizes the role of color in creating the emotional tone and visual aesthetic of animated works. It not only vividly reflects and highlights the personalities of the characters but also enhances the overall emotional tone of the works. Color not only helps to create an eye-catching hero but also to highlight their personality, talk about their past, and suggests whether they are the villain or the main protagonist of the story. By analyzing the color perception of the character in animation, the research investigates how different linguistic and cultural frameworks influence viewers' understanding and emotional responses to these characters. Utilizing a multidisciplinary approach that incorporates insights from color linguistic analysis, the research examines around eight Disney films and their character color schemes. The findings aim to provide a deeper understanding of the symbolic power of color and its significant role in shaping moral perceptions in storytelling. This research contributes to the broader field of linguistics by highlighting the complex interplay between visual and verbal elements in character perception throughout the linguistic relativity theory. Linguistic Relativity, as developed by Benjamin Lee Whorf, is a theory that explores the relationship or the connection between thought and language in the minds of speakers. It also suggests that language not only influences thought but that different languages casually impact thought in different ways.

The Effect of Digital Storytelling as an Instructional Technique in Improving Fifth Grade Students' English Reading Comprehension Skills
2023
This study aimed at investigating the effect of digital storytelling in developing fifth grade students' achievement in reading comprehension skills. The target skills were prediction, skimming, scanning, guessing the meaning through context and Inference. A quasi- experimental approach was used in this study. The total number of participants was 60 in a Private school in Damascus city in the first semester of the academic year 2021- 2022. The sample consisted of two groups: the control group (30) students, and the experimental group (30) students. The instruments of the study were an achievement reading comprehension test of five scopes with (15) items and a digital story. The SPSS statistical program was used to analyze the study data and the hypotheses were tested at the level of significance (α = 0.05). The results indicated that there were statistically significant differences between both groups in favour of the experimental one, in prediction, skimming, scanning, guessing the meaning of words through context and inference skills due to the digital storytelling technique. Effect size technique indicated a large effect of this technique in improving reading comprehension skills collectively and in guessing the meaning of word through context skill. Whereas, it indicated a medium effect in improving prediction, skimming and scanning skills and had a low effect in improving the inference skill for the experimental group. Based on those findings, the study recommended the necessity of implementing the digital storytelling technique in teaching English to bring better outcomes in students' achievements. It was also suggested that further research should be conducted on the effect of digital storytelling in learning different skills of English language and other school subjects.

Storytelling
This study examines how the storytelling method was used to teach English to young learners in grade three of an elementary school in Tripoli, the capital city of Libya. Two cycles of the study's classroom action research were conducted. Data were gathered through observations in the classroom and conversations with the teachers and pupils. A descriptive analysis method was used to examine the data. According to the research, students tend to learn English with greater enthusiasm when stories are delivered to them. This suggests that telling stories may be considered a cutting-edge teaching strategy. The majority of them report that they comprehend the lesson more clearly and quickly pick up new language. Due to this wonderful chance, the pupils take pleasure in their academic work. According to the teacher, using the storytelling technique makes the lessons more engaging and enjoyable since the pupils are participating. However, given that teachers are still unable to create stories and use them in a way that is consistent with the curriculum, when putting the strategy into reality, the teachers had several issues.

This paper delves into the intricate tapestry of Gothic elements embedded within Charlotte Perkins Gilman's renowned short story, \"The Yellow Wallpaper\". Drawing on the author's personal experiences and the prevalent socio-cultural context of the late 19th century, this study aims to unravel the profound psychological implications of the Gothic genre as manifested in the narrative. Through a meticulous analysis of key motifs, symbols, and thematic elements, the paper examines how the Gothic genre serves as a vehicle for exploring themes of female subjugation, psychological deterioration, and societal repression. By dissecting the protagonist's descent into madness within the confining walls of her bedroom, this research sheds light on the oppressive forces that society imposes on women, particularly during the Victorian era. Furthermore, the study investigates how the dark and foreboding atmosphere, intricate descriptions, and the unreliable narrative voice contribute to the overall Gothic ambiance, evoking a sense of claustrophobia and fear. Ultimately, this paper underscores the significance of \"The Yellow Wallpaper\" as a powerful portrayal of the psychological toll imposed by societal norms, while highlighting the enduring relevance of the Gothic genre in exposing the hidden horrors of human existence.
