Characteristics of the Modern Utilization of Maqasid Al-Sharia
This research, titled \"Characteristics of The Modern Utilization of Maqasid Al-Sharia (objectives of Sharia)\", addresses a fundamental question: Can the modern maqasid theory be considered a reformist call to adhere to the spirit of Sharia, or is it a form of cultural camouflage aimed at altering Sharia and following personal desires? The study consists of two main sections. The first section elucidates the characteristics of modern maqasid theorization, while the second section presents and critiques models of how modernists manipulate textual sources under the pretext of applying maqasid Al-Sharia. The research yields several key findings, notably that modernists often cloak their arguments in maqasid terminology as a means of renewing religious discourse. Unfortunately, their renewal lacks rigorous methodological controls and objective criteria, leading them to impose imaginary maqasid on definitive textual sources, thereby undermining established legal views in service of modernity and its objectives.

Plagiarism Perceptions and Attitudes among Medical Students in Saudi Arabia
This study aimed to determine attitudes towards and perceptions of plagiarism among medical students in Saudi Arabia. Methods: This cross-sectional, multicentre study was conducted between April and May 2018 and involved medical students enrolled in three medical schools in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The previously validated Attitude Towards Plagiarism questionnaire was used to evaluate approval (i.e. a positive attitude) and disapproval of plagiarism (i.e. a negative attitude) among medical students. Furthermore, this study evaluated whether attending medical writing courses or courses in medical ethics influenced medical students’ attitudes towards plagiarism. Results: A total of 551 students participated in the study (response rate = 73.5%). A significant association was found between mean negative and positive attitude scores and grade point average (GPA; P = 0.004 and 0.007, respectively). Students attending medical ethics courses had higher mean negative attitude scores compared to students who did not attend such courses (odds ratio = 2.369, 95% confidence interval: 1.540–3.645; P <0.001). Attending medical ethics courses was associated with a significantly more negative attitude towards plagiarism (P <0.001, each). Conclusion: The majority of medical students in Saudi Arabia included in this study indicated a highly negative attitude towards plagiarism. A higher GPA, the authoring of a published manuscript and attending courses in medical ethics were associated with negative attitudes towards plagiarism among medical students.
Deterring Plagiarism in Algerian Universities
There is no doubt that plagiarism has become a growing ethical dilemma which hits the scientific research world and publishing. Recent studies have shown a considerable concern about the issue to gain a deep insight into the phenomenon, understand its roots and find solutions to prevent or at least minimize its spread. The Algerian legislator has realised that plagiarism is a plague that tarnishes the reputation of Algerian universities worldwide therefore finding the ways to deter it becomes a necessity. In a move to fight against this phenomenon, legal measures have been taken into action. Those measures presented in the ministerial resolution n˚933 and 1082 equate plagiarism to criminal and immoral behaviour and set preventive and punitive regulations to ensure integrity in academia. The research in hand aims at investigating the issue of plagiarism from a legal perspective. It sheds light on analysing the legal measures taken by the Algerian authorities to deter plagiarism and assessing their efficacy in reality. The study shows the multidimensionality of the phenomenon therefore it recommends a myriad of approaches to deter it.
Perspectives of Students and Faculty at Bethlehem University Towards Plagiarism
This study sought to identify the perspectives of Bethlehem University students and faculty members on plagiarism in academic writing. Three major aspects of plagiarism were explored: awareness of the phenomenon, its causes, and possible solutions. This study was conducted on (727) Bethlehem University freshmen students and (198) full-time and part-time faculty members during the 2014-15 academic year. Data was collected via two electronically administered survey questionnaires: one for students and another for teachers. The results revealed clear differences between the students' and faculty members' awareness of plagiarism and attitudes toward the relationship between the prevalence of plagiarism and the existence of a policy against plagiarism. The results also showed that most of the faculty members lack a general awareness of plagiarism. The study further revealed that there was a clear correlation between plagiarism and the difficulties faced by students in writing in English and their misunderstanding of plagiarism as well as the lack of research skills among students. The paper proposes possible practical solutions to address this problem.
