The Short Story
The concise length of a short story endows it with its magic. The magic that draws the reader to be engaged with the characters' motivations and conflicts. This engagement will create an emotional bond between the reader and the characters. The focused storytelling nature of the short story necessitates a skillful writer who is very familiar with all literary genres, techniques, and artistic devices. This paper aims first to examine the main premises in Suzanne Ferguson's two articles \"Defining the Short Story: Impressionism and Form\" (1982) and \"The Rise of the Short Story in the Hierarchy of Genres\" (1988). The goal is to explain Ferguson's experimentation with the concepts of \"impressionism\" and \"form\" in short story writing and how she challenges the dogmatic genre hierarchy. Moreover, to apply some of Ferguson's premises on Katherine Mansfield's short story \"Bliss\". Second, provide a brief demonstration of Edgar Allan Poe's theory on \"Short Fiction\" (1994) in the \"design\" of his tale \"The Tell-Tale-Heart\" and to investigate how writing within the design of theories can affect the writer's creativity. Third, explain how far Ferguson's ideas are different and/or similar both to the views of Poe and those of Brander Matthews, with reference to the common points between Ferguson's vision and that of Allan H. Pasco (1991). Fourth, discuss Robert M. Luscher's article \"The Short Story Sequence: An Open Book\" and applying some of its concepts on Kathleen Anne Porter's sequence \"The Old Order\" with a brief focus on her short story \"The Grave\".

يبحث هذا الكتاب في الطبيعة وحدود فهم وإدراك العقل البشري لها، ومما جاء فية : (يعتقد البعض أن العقل البشري مركز الكون الفكري وأنه موهبة كبرى وهبها الله للإنسان ولم يهب غيره بأحسن منه أو مثله، ووصل غرورهم به حدا عجيبا، ونرى ذلك واضحا في ما يقولون وما يسيطرون، فهو في نظرهم، العامل الذي يميز الانسان عن الكائنات الآخرى، فالإنسان بواسطة العقل قادر- كما يزعمون- على أن يفهم كل شئ في الطبيعة ويفك شفرتها ويحل ألغازها، وقد أثبت العلم الحديث خطأ هذا الاعتقاد، فالعقل في اللإنسان ما هو إلا وسيلة من وسائل تنازع البقاء. فهو في الإنسان كالدرع الواقي في السلحفاة، والخرطوم الطويل في الفيل، والأشواك الحادة في القنفذ. الطبيعة بحر يمتد عمقة إلى مالا نهاية ونحن مهما وسعنا نطاق حواسنا وتعمقنا بتجاربنا وأجهدنا عقولنافي التفكير لا نصل إلى الحقيقة الكاملة للطبيعة، فكلما تعمقنا في بحر الطبيعة أكثر نعثر على ظواهر غير معهودة من قبل. إن الذين يتبجحون بالعقل، ويفتخرون بما أنتج للبشرية من اكتشافات علمية تزخر بها حضارتنا عليهم أن يعلموا أن حضارتنا هي حضارة مايكروسكوبية، وهي أشبة بحضارة النمل أو النحل. آن الآوان أن تتقبل الطبيعة بكل ما فيها بدون قيد أو شرط، أن نعترف بعجز العقل البشري عن الفهم التام لها.

A Cultural Ecological Reading of Human-Nature Interconnectivity in Mahmoud Darwish's \the Second Olive Tree\
The aesthetic is considered in modern ecocriticism. This article reads the olive tree metaphor in Mahmoud Darwish's \"The Second Olive Tree\" to argue that neither the anthropocentric approach of human-centeredness nor the biocentric one of nature centeredness is proper to depicting the indissoluble interconnectedness between binaries such as nature/culture, matter/mind, and human/non-human worlds. So, in light of the cultural ecology of Hubert Zapf, this paper proposes ecocultural reading as a solution to the dualistic views of these binaries. Such a reading acknowledges the mutual relationship between nature and culture, mind and matter, and human and non human worlds as well as their dynamic and evolutionary interrelationships. At the same time, this reading does not cross the boundaries between them. It is also a way of cultural self-renewal when empowering marginalized or excluded interconnected patterns and of imaginative counter-discourses of this dualistic approach. Furthermore, the cultural ecology paradigm, as a transdisciplinary undertaking, contributes to ecocriticism and environmental humanitiess.

الطبيعة وما بعد الطبيعة : المادة. الحياة. الله
يجسد الكاتب مفهوم الطبيعة في هذا الكتاب بصورة تبرز أهمية الميتافيزيقا أي ما بعد الطبيعة والتي وهي المقاربة التي يوجه الكاتب من خلالها رسالة للعقل الإنساني فحواها إنما القصد من هذا الوجود الطموح إلى ما وراء الوجود أي معرفة الحقائق الكونية في الظواهر الطبيعية عن طريق النظر العقلي في معرفة علل وجود الأشياء ثم ويتعرض المؤلف لقضية وجود الله وصفاته كما يربط في نهاية هذا الكتاب كذلك بين الواجب الديني والواجب الطبيعي الذي يعتبره باعتبار الأول نتاجا ناتجا من نتاجات للواجب الطبيعي الثاني وينزل منزلا الدين منزلة العلوم الرياضية باعتبار أن كليهما يستند إلى مقدمات تفضي إلى نتائج داعيا إلى التفكير الموصل لأسرار الطبيعة لأنه كرديف الأفق للأفق الواسع والمعرفة اللامحدودة.
