تتناول رواية \"قرار قاتل\" والذي قام بتأليفه \"جون غرين وود\" وقامت بترجمته \"لميس حيدر إسماعيل\" في حوالي (426) صفحة من القطع المتوسط موضوع (القصص الإنجليزية البوليسية)، عرف فن الرواية ما نسميه الرواية البوليسية منذ زمن طويل، وكانت أغاثا كريستي رائدتها. تطور هذا النمط من الكتابة كثيرا في العقود الأخيرة، وربما أسهمت الكتابة للسينما والتلفزيون في تطويره وانتشاره لما يكتنز من عناصر تشويق تحبس الأنفاس حتى النهاية. إنها جانب من دراما الحياة الواقعية التي تشد كثيرا من القراء والمشاهدين إلى قراءتها ومتابعتها حتى المشهد الأخير من دون شعور بملل، بل بأعصاب مشدودة تريد حلا يأتي على الأغلب لصالح القارئ والمشاهد، وربما هو جائزته بعد مشوار حافل بالإثارة. سيرى القارئ في هذه الرواية أنموذجا لفن يثيره معظم الوقت. سندع الباقي للقارئ يكتشفه بنفسه، وهذا جزء من هدفنا، أن نشجع القراءة لتغدو عادة. والرواية البوليسية بالإضافة إلى كل شيء آخر، مجرد أداة حافزة؛ فهل تكون ؟

The Psychogeographical Understanding of Identity in Rawi Hage's Cockroach
This article examines Rawi Hag's novel Cockroach (2008) in the context of psychogeography theory, which consecrates the relationship between psychology and geography. The article portrays the novel's anonymous narrator's psycho-spatial journey in the context of a decaying multicultural Canadian society and how the various excursions lead him on certain metaphorical journeys that result in an identity crisis. The unnamed character feels lost in the urban city, the restaurant, and the underground, each of which dictates his psychic trip, which, in turn, affects his behavior and personality. The article concludes by having the unnamed narrator develop from flâneur to fugueur through his physical voyages. Also, it looks at the unnamed narrator's mental journey in a multicultural setting, from his failed attempt to kill himself to the cathartic final scene in which he turns into a cockroach and, as he thought, regains his freedom.

The Interplay of Textua and Non-Textual Factors in the Popularity of Asian Web Fiction
The burgeoning popularity of web fiction in Asia, particularly in China, has transformed the literary landscape, yet the underlying factors driving this phenomenon remain underexplored. This study aims to systematically investigate both the linguistic features and non-textual engagement metrics that contribute to the success of Asian web novels. Employing a mixed-methods approach, data were collected through a structured online survey of 300 readers across multiple Asian countries, computational linguistic analysis of 50 top-ranked web novels, and qualitative interviews and focus groups with 70 participants. Quantitative results reveal that non-textual factors- such as hits (82%), favorites (67%), and comments (60%)- significantly predict a novel's popularity, while textual analysis identifies shorter sentence length and higher lexical diversity as key stylistic markers of successful works. Qualitative insights further demonstrate that interactive community features foster reader engagement and shape consumption patterns. Together, these findings elucidate the complex interplay between writing style, genre conventions, and platform-mediated social dynamics in shaping web fiction's appeal. This research offers valuable implications for authors, publishers, and digital platform developers seeking to optimize content creation and engagement strategies in the rapidly evolving domain of online literature.

Psychosocial Study of Ian McEwan's Unfamiliar Child Characters in Nutshell and Machines Like Me
This paper discusses the unhealthy psychosocial development of child characters in Ian McEwan's Nutshell (2016) and Machines like Me (2019) from Erik Erikson's psychosocial stages of development: \"basic trust vs. basic mistrust\", \"identity vs. role confusion\" and \"integrity vs. despair\". This study reveals that McEwan creates unfamiliar child characters who switch their identities and their roles from childhood to adulthood; like, the fetus in Nutshell, who fails to acquire the necessary basic trust and to be integrated in society. Also, it demonstrates that McEwan creates child characters who switch from adulthood to childhood; like, Charlie in Machines like Me, who fails to identify himself as a child, or as an adult and to recognize his roles. This paper specifically aims to show that these children are highly influenced by their domestic and social surroundings that play a role in whether constructing or destroying their psychosocial development. By the same token, they are victims of their family and society that play a destructive role by aggravating and enduring the crises of their psychosocial development. Consequently, the familial and the social experience of these children impact their psychosocial stages resulting in an unhealthy psychosocial development.

The Various Representations of the Intellectual in Shahla Ujayli's
This article examines the various representations' of the intellectual in Shahla Ujayli's A Sky So close To Us (2019). It investigates the portrayal of both male and female intellectuals in the novel. It discusses first Joumane Badran, as an exilic intellectual, who attempts to defend the marginalized and victimized people even though she is an intellectual. Ujayli describes Joumane's feelings and experiences in exile using cancer as a metaphor for her journey to overcome her hardship and become a happy exilic figure. Besides, this article also deals with Dr. Nasser al- Amerieh who is another exilic intellectual who is happy despite the fact that he faces displacement several times. It also focuses on Dr. Yaacoub Sharif who is another exilic intellectual who feels unhappy. Hence, Edward Said's writings on the definition of the intellectual and exilic intellectual are paramount to analyze these three characters. This article does not only uncover exilic intellectuals but also attempts to delve into another Emersonian character whose name is Suhayl Badran. It reveals how the latter follows Ralph Waldo Emerson's life; thus, Emerson's representation of the intellectual is also required for the analysis.
