Effects of Bidens Pilosa L Extract on Complete Blood Count and Serum Antioxidant Enzymes Levels in Rats
2024
The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of Bidens Pilosa L extract (BPE) on complete blood picture and serum antioxidant enzymes level in rats by the dose of (3, 6 and 9ml orally/day). Thirty tow male albino rats about (170±10g) were used in this study, and then divided into four equal groups each (8rats). The first one considers a control negative group that fed on a basal diet all the time during the experiment, the other groups (24 rats) was fed on a basal diet + the Oral doses of B. Pilosa for (4 weeks). Complete blood cells count levels (HB, HCT, RBCs and PLT) showed significant increases compared with the control group. WBCs showed a decrease. For antioxidant enzymes (SOD, CAT, GSH and GPx) were significantly increase comparing with control.

Chemopreventive effect of Annona muricata on DMBA-induced cell proliferation in the breast tissues of female albino mice
2014
Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer and leading cause of cancer death in women. Breast cancer and cancer related diseases have been treated using surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy, or a combination of these. Despite these therapeutic options, cancer remains associated with high mortality. Traditional medicine which involves the use of herbs has been used to treat various types of cancer and this has been found to be effective with minimal or no side effects.
This research was aimed at evaluating the potential chemopreventive effect of an ethanolic extract of Annona muricata leaves on 7,12-dimethylbenzeneanthracene (DMBA)-induced cell proliferation in the breast tissues of female albino mice.
A. muricata leaves, thirty (30) female albino mice, and 7,12-dimethylbenzeneanthracene (DMBA) were used for this study. Crude extraction protocol was employed in the preparation of an ethanolic extract of A. muricata leaves. Qualitative and quantitative phytochemical screening of an ethanolic extract of A. muricata leaves was carried out using standard protocol. Agarose gel electrophoresis was used to analyze deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) extracted from the breast tissues of experimental mice while hematoxylin and eosin staining was used for histological assay.
Phytochemical screening revealed the presence of terpenoid, steriod, flavonoids, cardiac glycoside, tannin, phenol, alkaloid, and reducing sugar. Phenol was quantitatively determined to be present in the highest amount. DNA smears obtained from agarose gel electrophoresis suggested possible DMBA-induced damage which was significantly prevented owing to the effect of the leaf extract of A. muricata leaves. Histological assay revealed the presence of DMBA induced lobular alveolar hyperplasia, adenomatoid hyperplasia, fibro adipose stroma, and proliferating sebaceous gland in the histological sections of the breast tissues of treated mice, however, these changes were found to vary in occurrence among the different groups of treated animals.
This study has shown that the leaf extract of A. muricata could be used as a prophylactic measure against DMBA-induced cell proliferation in the breast tissues of female albino mice.

Phytochemical, Heavy Metals and Antimicrobial Study of the Leaves of Amaranthus Viridis
2023
Amaranthus viridis belongs to Amaranthaceae family. Amaranthus, communally known as Green amaranth. Amaranthus viridis L decoctions are traditionally used in the treatment of various ailments including lessen labor pains and as an antipyretic, antiulcer, analgestic, laxative, as an antileprotic, as anti-inflammatory agents of urinary tract, against high blood sugar as well as against high cholesterol. In the present study phytochemicals present in the leaves of Amaranthus viridis were extracted with ethanol and the extract was used to investigate the phytochemical constituents. Based on results supported by different studies, Several secondary metabolites were found such as Alkaloids, Tannins, Phenols, Flavonoids, Proteins & amino acids, Glycosides, Saponins and Steroid. Our study also included the antibacterial activity of Amaranthus viridis against the bacterial pathogens using Ethanolic extract. The selected pathogens were E.coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella, the ethanolic extract of Amaranthus viridis showed antibacterial activity against the E.coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella. Finally, A study was conducted to analyse the presence of heavy metals in the Amaranthus viridis. AAS was used to examine the presence of heavy metals by acid digestion method. Overall the results of analysis showed that heavy metals were present in varied concentrations in Amaranthus viridis. The results obtained revealed that the leaves of Amaranthus viridis have some therapeutic values and could be exploited in the preparation of herbal drugs for the treatment of various ailments.

Chemical Constituents, Antioxidant, Antimicrobial and Antitumor Activity of the Methanolic Extract of Libyan Salvia Officinalis and Rosmarinus Officinalis
2023
The natural plant extracts are an important source for the new biologically active compounds with possible applications in the pharmaceutical field. Phytotherapy embraces especially the isolation from herbs, of compounds with unique chemical structures, which are considered to be pharmacologically active. The objective of this study was to identify the phenolic acids and flavonoids of Libyan Salvia officinalis and Rosmarinus officinalis with possible applications in the pharmaceutical field. seven phenolic compounds were identified from Salvia officinalis by HPLC; with main constituents 12.56 and 11.23 μg/gm for Catechol and Syringenic respectively. Eight phenolic compounds wer isolated from Rosmarinus officinalis with main constituents of 13.78 and 12.36μg/gm of Gallic and Cinnamic respectively. Seven flavonoid constituents for Salvia officinalis were identified and the main constituents were Quersestin in concentration 11.42 μg/gm. For Rosmarinus officinalis; also seven flavonoid compounds were detected with main constituent Kampferol at 11.02 μg/gm. Antioxidant, antimicrobial and antitumor activities for the two extracts were examined showed that Rosmarinus officinalis extract have higher activity than Salvia officinalis toward all of them.
