The Role of Applied Linguistics in Arabic Language Teaching and Learning
Applied linguistics is considered a multidisciplinary science due to its close connection with language and its levels of use, with a strong research focus that summarizes the functional dimensions of language to solve various related problems by finding practical and beneficial solutions that work to develop language and its understanding in various fields and areas of knowledge, particularly the field of teaching and learning Arabic, which relies on dynamic techniques that overcome all the difficulties that hinder the achievement of educational objectives.

A Pragmatic Analysis of Implicatures in Covid-19 Coronavirus English Jokes
The present study aims at examining implicature in covid-19 Coronavirus jokes in the light of a neo-Gricean approach. For carrying out a meaningful analysis of jokes, an eclectic model is adopted. The data of the study consist of (25) electronic coronavirus English jokes. Only (10) are selected for data analysis. The analysis deals with jokes in terms of their types, principles breaking, and humor devices utilized to infer the meaning of the intended implicature. The jokes are analyzed according to Horn's (1989/2004) neo-Gricean principles and Attardo's (1997) Neo-Gricean distinction between two levels of cooperation: the illocutionary Cooperative Principle (ICP) and the Perlocutionary Cooperative Principle (PCP). A neo-Gricean type of principles breaking is conducted by adopting Thomas (1995). While humour devices are analyzed according to Dynel (2009). The data of the study were collected from WhatsApp, Facebook and some other network sources. Data analysis revealed that the (Quantity) Principle is more frequently broken than the (Relevance) Principle. The analysis showed that the 'violation' of principles was more utilized type of breaking. In addition, 'flouting' and 'opting out' were also utilized in coronavirus jokes. As for humour devices, 'sarcasm', 'irony', 'teasing', and 'self-denigrating' were mostly used in Coronavirus jokes. This indicated that the major conern of the joke teller is criticism through humour.

Veiled Authorship
In the age of the Internet and social media, where many writers hide behind their blue screens, broadcasting all kinds of ideas and committing new types of crimes through steering public opinion sheltered with the courage of impunity, the ability to use linguistic tools as evidence of either guilt or innocence becomes of utmost importance. The present study is set to investigate the potential linguistic potency of unmasking the hidden identity of prominent authors whose ideas get the chance to be published opposite the editorial page in leading national newspaper in Egypt under a pseudonym. Pseudonymous op-eds authorship is expected to be the most hidden among other genres of writing. This is because the text is expected, as a rule of thumb, to be reviewed and proofread by the publisher and editorial board before getting to appear in a newspaper. The study at hand centers around the hypothesis that there must be linguistic features that survive the alterations made to the text that can still lead to the real hand holding the pen behind the post-editorial pen-named column. The study employs a corpus-based approach to analyzing stylometric features in an article published in Al-Masry Al-Youm Newspaper's column وجدتها wajadtoha [Eureka] that is regularly signed Newton for the end goal of getting its authorship verified. A contrastive analysis was conducted against ArabiCorpus an online corpus of Brigham Young University (BYU). Using the stylometric features detected in the pen-named op-ed as ruling criteria, the finding revealed a notable variance from the way they exhibit on the sub corpus [all newspaper] of the online ArabiCorpus revealing distinctiveness. The analysis presented in this paper forms the first stage of any possible authorship dispute be it verification or attribution through the creation of a forensic linguistic profile of the disputed text. This way it is expected to contribute to the field of forensic linguistics by demonstrating the efficacy of stylometric tools in resolving authorship disputes in two challenging scopes: the genre of writing like op-eds and the less researched Arabic language.

المنهج الإحصائي في دراسة خصائص اللغة العربية
هذا البحث هو محاولة في استثمار أحد أهم المناهج الحديثة ألا وهو المنهج الإحصائي أو الحاسوبي في دراسة خصائص اللغة العربية، ومعرفة ما يمكن أن يقدمه هذا المنهج من أثر مهم في معرفة خصائص اللغة العربية بأسلوب علمي وتقني وموضوعي. واعتمد البحث في إكمال مادته على الدراسات اللغوية العربية الحديثة التي استثمرت الدراسات الإحصائية والحاسوبية في دراسة خصائص العربية. وأهم النتائج التي توصل إليها البحث أن الدراسات الإحصائية والحاسوبية بينت تمتع العربية بعدد من الخصائص اللغوية المهمة: كالانتظام والوضوح الصوتيين، وحدة الخاصية الصرفية، والتوسط اللغوي، والمرونة الإعرابية والنحوية، واعتماد المعجم العربي على الجذور اللغوية، وميل اللغة العربية نحو الاقتصاد اللغوي، كما بيّنت هذه الدراسات كثرة النماذج النحتية في اللغة العربية.
