Gestures as Used in the U. S. Presidential TV Interviews
The present study is based on a pragmatic analysis of presidential TV gestures. Precisely, the study sets itself the task of answering the following questions: What are the types of gestures and what is the most common type. Accordingly, the study aims at identifying the types of gestures and figuring out the common type of gesture it is hypothesized that there are different types of gestures deictic, dynamic. The researcher proposes to approach pragmatic gestures. Communication is divided into two modes: verbal modeand nonverbal mode, which includes facial expressions, gestures, body language (position or movement), touch, eye contact, and other nonverbal means of conveying a message. This paper will focus on only one type of nonverbal communication: hand gestures, their role and contribution to various genres of communication, and the messages they convey. Gestures, according to Adam Kenton, a pioneer in gesture research, are a type of nonverbal communication in which visible bodily actions are used to communicate key points, either in place of speech or in tandem with spoken words. (Kendon 2004:1-4).
